How many of your friends & family smoke?

I notice at work ( The Range) that quite a few people go out for a fag in their break & I got to thinking that apart from colleagues, I don’t think I know anyone who smokes. I never have & I hate it. Was really shocked at one of our managers who had a near fatal heart attack last year but was still lighting up the other day. Is smoking generally decreasing?

None! I’d never really thought about that before.

pennypineapple · 18/08/2019 18:46

Yes I'm sure it is. I only know a handful of people who smoke now.

Twooter · 18/08/2019 18:47

None.

NoHummus · 18/08/2019 18:48

None of my friends and family, and only one of my colleagues.

VeganVeganVegan · 18/08/2019 18:50

None...but I have no family or friends outside of my house. I hate smoking it makes me sick.

OhMsBeliever · 18/08/2019 18:54

None of my family now my mum has died (from cancer. She smoked till the day she was taken to hospital)

Very very few of my friends do, so much so that I'm always shocked when someone I know lights up because I forget they do.

FredaFox · 18/08/2019 18:55

None but a few did until couple of years ago, all given up

username678889 · 18/08/2019 18:56

Yeah I still have relatives ,one who still smokes after a triple bypass . A couple of friends and colleagues who smoke.
I get the addiction but I don't get why you would want to go outside in all weathers just to smoke . I am in a running group and no one smokes in fact I don't know anyone who does exercise who smokes .

EdWinchester · 18/08/2019 18:56

None.

I have a colleague that smokes (and has associated health issues), but that's it.

applepieicecream · 18/08/2019 18:57

None

Iamtooknackeredtorun · 18/08/2019 18:57

One friend. B&H. She tried vaping but went back to the fags

SimonJT · 18/08/2019 18:57

Smoking is falling dramatically, so we do see it less.

I smoke, I would say the majority of my friends smoke, we don’t have many smokers in my department at work, but a lot of people vape at work.

mrspotatohed · 18/08/2019 18:58

Majority of family and probably half of my friends.

thecatneuterer · 18/08/2019 18:59

None. But a surprising number of my tenants do. Surprising as they are, largely, young and educated and they really should know better!

RonnieScotts · 18/08/2019 18:59

None, not a single friend, family member or colleague.

ClashCityRocker · 18/08/2019 19:00

As a smoker, a lot of my family smoke. Mix among friends is about 50/50. But definitely my older friends are more likely to be smokers, my younger friends it's more of a rarity.

Colleagues....very few.

(I am trying to quit!)

BarberaofSeville · 18/08/2019 19:02

No-one.

youareyou143 · 18/08/2019 19:05

None of my close friends or family do but my DB used to up until he had a heart attack - he's never smoked since and made a full recovery. A few co-workers do. One always has chest infections but still continues to smoke Hmm and cough around the office

Feverslag · 18/08/2019 19:05

Oh yeah at my local Range, I always see groups of employees standing in the car park smoking.
I don’t know anyone who smokes other than some of DH’s friends on a pub night. None of my friends or family do

marriednotdead · 18/08/2019 19:06

Just my mother. She moans that nobody comes to see her...

A couple of friends now vape and my uncle gave up after having a health scare.

Quite a few much younger colleagues do, much to my surprise.

SnuggyBuggy · 18/08/2019 19:08

Only one current smoker. A few are ex-smokers. I'm glad because I prefer to keep my DD away from smoke and really feel for people who have to have that conversation with their DCs grandparents and other family members.

ElspethFlashman · 18/08/2019 19:08

None, bar DHs best friend who has 3 Marlboro a day and fools himself it doesn't even count cos he doesn't smoke till the evening (!!!).

bakingcupcakes · 18/08/2019 19:12

None of my family but about a third of my younger work colleagues do. A few of my close friends do as well. At one point I would've said about 90%of my friends smoked. It's a lot less now I think because we're older and most of us have kids.

jalopy · 18/08/2019 19:12

No one. Thank god.

JellyfishAndShells · 18/08/2019 19:13

None - I never started, DH gave up before he met me and, as an ex smoker, is very disapproving of it. None of my friends do - or ever did, apart from a couple of occasional ones at parties in their twenties. Just walked past the pub at the end of the road and the few huddled on the outside tables, smoking, in what is now a chilly evening, don’t look very cheerful.

My DDs are incredulous when I tell them about my first job in a very smoky office - totally normal then - and smoking on trains and buses. And planes !
