Had to go wedding dress shopping alone- come and tell me what you think!

Went wedding dress shopping yesterday on a spur of the moment, it was getting to difficult to get my mum and close cousins to join as we all live in different parts of the country.

I ordered this dress from Phase eight which I think is the one, I just need a few more eyes to tell me if I'm missing anything glaringly obvious and some second opinions.

I will pay for it to be taken up when I am set on shoes. And apologies the only heels I have in the house at the moment are black boots as the rest are in storage for moving house!

I'm getting married in the scottish highlands with a party to follow in my home city. Will wear a tasteful tartan shawl outside for travelling to photos/inclement weather.

It's lovely! Gorgeous style.

moreismore · 27/06/2019 10:27

I love it! Absolutely beautiful. Really makes the most of your lovely figure and it’ll look great with a tartan shawl too.

nicecuppaforme · 27/06/2019 10:27

It's very pretty. I don't think a tartan shawl will look good with it at all though.

Do you have pearls?

Peridot1 · 27/06/2019 10:28

I think it’s lovely.

How does it make you feel? Do you feel amazing in it?

teenmum18 · 27/06/2019 10:28

It's lovely 😊

Hoppinggreen · 27/06/2019 10:33

Lovely, it really suits you

MissPhonic · 27/06/2019 10:33

It makes me feel lovely, I just worry that people might think its too tight around the hips and bum and too low cut or that it looks cheap. Its not your typical go to a bridal shop and spend £££ dress.

It's got a beautiful scooped back. The tartan shawl will mainly be for wrapping around while heading out for photos.

Also a few beads have dropped off already- think a thread must have been loose. Im not worried and I think its bound to happen. But I dont want it to be bare of beads come the party!

It’s beautiful!

MoobaaMoobaa · 27/06/2019 10:37

it's really lovely! Smile

Theghosttrain · 27/06/2019 10:39

It's very pretty and really suits you. The only negative is that I can see an owl"s face in the lower half of the dress and now I can't unsee it!

MissPhonic · 27/06/2019 10:40

Paha, my secret crotch owl!

I'd worry about the beads dropping tbh if you're wearing it twice.
Can you pay a seamstress to put an extra stitch round them?

VodkaRevelation · 27/06/2019 10:43

It’s beautiful. Might be worth returning rent the beads falling off and hoping the next one comes and it doesn’t happen. Be nice to know it’s all intact on the day.

It really suits your figure.

seven201 · 27/06/2019 10:46

It's gorgeous!

I had a very beaded dress and ever time I stood on the little train I'd hear a crunch so my dress is now quite patchy which is obviously fine as I don't need it anymore. I bought it as a sample and spent many hours sewing missing beads on. Very Beaded dresses do just shed beads unfortunately. Mine was an expensive brand, so it won't be just a problem with high street ones.

MissPhonic · 27/06/2019 10:48

My mums just been made unexpectantly redundant and is a sewing whiz so I'll ask if she could pop some extra stitches in. It'll keep her mind off things. It's also part of the reason I've gone high street. I don't want to put any financial pressure on my parents (who are the type who feel like they have to contribute to their only daughters wedding).

It’s a beautiful dress. My sister chose the same one but she has a different body shape so it doesn’t look the same at all. My body shape is similar to yours. It doesn’t matter at all that it’s not a typical bridal shop dress, definitely doesn’t look cheap or low cut. It is quite tight across the hips and I might not choose it for that reason. I also see owls now that it has been mentioned by pp!

Please make sure you can sit comfortably in it. I didn’t sit down when trying mine on and was super uncomfortable when I wasn’t standing!

themartinipolice · 27/06/2019 11:11

It's beautiful, congrats on finding the one!
If you can sit in it and dance (ceilidh?) in it, go for it!

PhillipeFellope · 27/06/2019 11:21

It's beautiful and you look fabulous in it! Congratulations on your upcoming wedding!

MissPhonic · 27/06/2019 11:26

Yes, need to try sitting down good point! Hoping to lose a little bit of weight and tone up a bit prior to the big day (its 11 months away), I've been comfort eating due to lots of long on call shifts at work and exams.

Do you think im stretching out this dress that is supposed to skim the hips? I love the shape it gives my figure, but am worried its not supposed to do that and Ive just crammed myself in?

It’s lovely, very Jenny Packham (whose dresses cost a small fortune).

exitlight · 27/06/2019 11:29

You look lovely, beautiful! How are you going to do your hair?

Rainbowqueeen · 27/06/2019 11:31

I like it very much and I like it on you very much

How are you going to wear your hair? It’s a dress which will work well with hair either up or down. I’m guessing no veil or a very plain one??

OddHoleySocks · 27/06/2019 11:32

Its lovely. I personally would choose a knitted lace shawl over a tartan one, much more in keeping with the dress - but if tartan is featured heavily in the wedding, which I'm assuming it is, it would be OK.

CrowleysBentley · 27/06/2019 11:32

It's beautiful and looks lovely on you.
