Had to go wedding dress shopping alone- come and tell me what you think!

Went wedding dress shopping yesterday on a spur of the moment, it was getting to difficult to get my mum and close cousins to join as we all live in different parts of the country.

I ordered this dress from Phase eight which I think is the one, I just need a few more eyes to tell me if I'm missing anything glaringly obvious and some second opinions.

I will pay for it to be taken up when I am set on shoes. And apologies the only heels I have in the house at the moment are black boots as the rest are in storage for moving house!

I'm getting married in the scottish highlands with a party to follow in my home city. Will wear a tasteful tartan shawl outside for travelling to photos/inclement weather.

That's beautiful!!!!!

ineedaholidaynow · 27/06/2019 11:34

It is a lovely dress.

Would the shawl get caught in the beads? I had a little bolero jacket for my wedding dress, as had a winter wedding

StarJumpsandaHalf · 27/06/2019 11:38

I’m going to be a lone dissenting voice Blush. Really, really sorry but I do think you could have a more flattering shape, as per the pic I’m not keen. Of course with the right shoes and fully accessorised it may be different. I wouldn’t like the idea of loose threads losing the beads though, not on my wedding day.

I also can’t unsee two angry owls with the lower one spreading right across the stomach area. Again in reality you’d be moving around and in photos would have your bouquet.

What’s the back like?

ssd · 27/06/2019 11:42

Gorgeous dress

TheBossOfMe · 27/06/2019 11:54

I'm going be a dissenting voice as well - I think you could find something much better suited to your shape. And it's not you, it's the dress - it is so undefined in shape, especially around the waist, that even the model on their website doesn't look good in it. And it's too stretched across the bottom, and makes you look bottom heavy. I suspect it looks even more bottom heavy from the back.

It's supposed to look more bias-cut, drapey. Instead it looks like a fishtail dress, but a poorly cut unstructured one.

And the owls!!!

MissPhonic · 27/06/2019 11:56

The back has a lovely scoop - I cant lie though my bum is a bit bigger than the model's, it does make my bum look pretty good though and DP is a bum more than boobs man.

I'm cool with the angry owls, I'll think of them as my mascots.

Stick with it if he's a bum man, he'll bloody love it

TheBossOfMe · 27/06/2019 12:02

If you love the dress, get one or two sizes up so it's not so stretched. The top is drapey, so a decent dressmaker should be able to nip it in if needed.

Personally I thinking this kind of style would suit your shape better

CassandraCross · 27/06/2019 12:04

It does look very stretched and tight across your hips and thighs, could you try a size up and have your mum alter it to fit you perfectly?

ssd · 27/06/2019 12:04

I'd have thought the whistles dress is a lot more pricier

Thecowinthemeadowgoesmoo · 27/06/2019 12:06

It's a beautiful dress and looks lovely on you.

TheBossOfMe · 27/06/2019 12:07

£105 more expensive, so yes, pricier, but not double the cost.

Isitweekendyet · 27/06/2019 12:08

Whit whoo!

You look absolutely gorgeous OP!

It suits you very much

Isitweekendyet · 27/06/2019 12:08

Whit whoo?

Sorry, I appear to have morphed into my seventy year old Mother...

Toddlerteaplease · 27/06/2019 12:09

It's gorgeous abs looks amazing.

sashh · 27/06/2019 12:12

Lovely dress, you look fab in it.

babyburrito1 · 27/06/2019 12:14

It looks absolutely gorgeous on you, I very nearly bought the same one for my wedding a couple of years ago and I think the way it moves is lovely. So sparkly. I think it's one of the Phase 8 staples so if you weren't 100% sure you could always wait a few months and then have a better idea on sizing etc. plus have a chance to keep looking. It might even end up in the sale between now and then.

MissPhonic · 27/06/2019 12:14

Have just ordered the next size up so I can compare the last one in stock! I think the whistles dress is nice for someone else but trying on dresses I learnt I dont suit white or lace. I felt ridiculius in lacy dresses.

Don't think I'm going to wear a veil and probably hair up. Will rethink the shawl idea, plenty of time to figure something out.

Stunning

BenWillbondsPants · 27/06/2019 12:15

OP, it's beautiful and I think a fabulous shape on you, you have a fantastic figure. I love it.

MissPhonic · 27/06/2019 12:17

I didn't feel like a bride in any other dresses either-just felt like I was playing dress up. This one has me grinning like a Cheshire cat!

Thank you for kind and constructive feedback (and the whit woo!), will see if the bigger size fits better!

LazyLizzy · 27/06/2019 12:20

OP you look gorgeous in it, nothing wrong with the booty!

FlatPackPat · 27/06/2019 12:21

OP I'm sorry to also wade in with a negative opinion but I agree with the other two PPs.

I think you could find something much more flattering for your figure. To me the loose waist doesn't do you any favours and compatibly it looks too tight around the hips/bum.

The dress itself is lovely as is your figure but I just feel like this one isn't working. Sorry to be a party popper.

Honestly though, if you love it and feel amazing in it then wear it! That's the most important thing.

My friend had a very similar one from Phase Eight last year. I imagine yours is the updated version. It's a lovely dress and in no way looks cheap.
