Had to go wedding dress shopping alone- come and tell me what you think!

Went wedding dress shopping yesterday on a spur of the moment, it was getting to difficult to get my mum and close cousins to join as we all live in different parts of the country.

I ordered this dress from Phase eight which I think is the one, I just need a few more eyes to tell me if I'm missing anything glaringly obvious and some second opinions.

I will pay for it to be taken up when I am set on shoes. And apologies the only heels I have in the house at the moment are black boots as the rest are in storage for moving house!

I'm getting married in the scottish highlands with a party to follow in my home city. Will wear a tasteful tartan shawl outside for travelling to photos/inclement weather.

I like it too, but what do I know as I can't see the owls, angry or otherwise?!! Grin
With heels, hair and a face it will be fabulous!
I'm a pear and ended up with this shaped dress- never thought I would!

WifOfBif · 27/06/2019 21:34

You look stunning.

wtffgs · 27/06/2019 21:38

That is beautiful - well done you!

feathermucker · 27/06/2019 21:40

I think it's a lovely dress, but not sure it suits your shape, which is great by the way. I think it's supposed to skim your waist. I think it could look different if you accessorised.

Genuinely don't want to sound horrible.

The thing that matters is how you feel in it.

winewolfhowls · 27/06/2019 21:41

It's lovely, good choice!

picklemepopcorn · 27/06/2019 21:42

I think it's lovely- the top seems to skip past your waist though, could it be lifted a little so your waist can be seen?

It's gorgeous though, and looks lovely on you. We ought to have a picture of the next size up, and one from behind as well. Just to be sure! Wink

MissPhonic · 27/06/2019 21:48

I'll take a pic of the next size up and with proper shoes on! Will try to get one from behind but a little difficult with only DP here with me!

Absolutely gorgeous.

I got my wedding dress from Phase Eight and I loved it. It was exactly me and even if I'd have had thousands of pounds to spend I don't think I could have found a better dress. When you know, you know. Enjoy wearing it, you look beautiful.

fikel · 27/06/2019 21:57

I think although it’s a lovely dress not sure it is highlighting your figure in a positive way. I think it’s too tight around your hips and make your hips appear bigger then they are.

MintToBee · 27/06/2019 22:26

I got married four weeks ago by the side of The Coe in Glencoe. I had a traditional Serape in our tartan. It was invaluable during the typical four seasons in one day weather. Serapes look fantastic and are practical too!

PissOffPeppa · 27/06/2019 22:39

I cannot believe people are saying it’s not flattering because it shows off your hips Hmm Jesus Christ, you have a stunning figure. Gorgeous hips, probably a cracking bum too. I think you look phenomenal because it emphasises your hips. Don’t hide yourself away with a looser fit if you’re happy and comfortable with this one.

PS: The owls are my favourite thing!

ssd · 27/06/2019 22:40

Is a serape like a wrap?

azulmariposa · 27/06/2019 22:51

It's really lovely. I'd pair it with a 20's style hairstyle and head-dress. And maybe a pair of tartan shoes.

Kanga83 · 27/06/2019 23:03

It's a beautiful dress....however (and you did ask for honest opinions), I would order a size up and the size above that and see how they look. The beautiful draping style is lost on that one and it js a stunning dress- just needs the right size for how it's meant to look (sorry, please don't hate me).

mother63 · 27/06/2019 23:28

Sorry - I saw owls faces/angry faces as soon as I saw the pic... not sure it's the most flattering shape tbh...

sycamore54321 · 27/06/2019 23:33

OP I love your cool attitude to the owls!

I think the fit isn’t quite right though, not primarily because of the hips but because of the top half. It’s presumably supposed to drape a bit almost like a top loosely tucked into a skirt? So the larger size might help achieve that look better. Otherwise I’d go the opposite direction and get the top taken in and probably up to give a more sleek line. The way it is now is neither one or the other.

Your love for the dress and how it makes you feel is a great thing. Just needs some tweak.

I also think adding any other elaborate fabric - the tartan shawl, the lace bolero - is a mistake. If you really need a coverup, something plain is best and just tough it out for any outdoor photos. It’s very hard to imagine what might go with beads - except perhaps fur.

I was at a highlands wedding in April. Groom (not Scottish) wore a heavy tweed suit and bride wore a very heavy long sleeve gown. It was over 20 degrees - on the same day the year before, it had been about five! So there’s no knowing

AdaShelby · 27/06/2019 23:39

I'm keen to see the next size up. Also I'm a big owl fan, so no probs there.

Totaldogsbody · 27/06/2019 23:45

I don't think it matters what anyone on here thinks if you feel this is the one then go for it. The weather in Scotland is so changeable, we say you can get all four seasons in one day, I'd maybe buy a tartan umbrella just in case. The dress is lovely btw, you'll look stunning on the day.

CassandraCross · 27/06/2019 23:51

PissOffPeppa no-one is suggesting OP hide away, but in my opinion and others the dress looks too tight and is pulling over her hips and thighs which is distorting the overall shape and line of the dress, plus it looks as if it will not be comfortable or easy to sit down in. The OP has got a good figure but the dress at the moment is not making the most of that. A larger size that can be tweaked and altered to ensure a perfect fit will be far better.

Kyogre · 27/06/2019 23:57

I think it's lovely.

Willyoubuymeahouseofgold · 28/06/2019 00:05

Erm.... well, while you do look fab, the pattern in the dress lands on 2 nipples and a vulva in a very unfortunate way ... I can't unsee it 😳

daphine2004 · 28/06/2019 00:09

@MissPhonic I think it’s a beautiful dress. I like the suggestions of a bigger size to see how that sits, but with the view to have it altered and fit you in all the best places 😉

I personally wouldn’t do anything with the length as it’s really flattering (plus you could get away with flats for all of the dancing!).

Have a beautiful day.

squee123 · 28/06/2019 00:14

I think if you go and visit a really decent underwear shop to get some proper structural support in place, go up a size and then have it taken in at the waist it will be stunning. I think people underestimate the importance of good underwear with wedding dresses. It can really make or break an outfit. At the moment I don't think it is quite right on the top, but the above should solve that.

winterisstillcoming · 28/06/2019 00:19

I agree with PPs in that it could fit better. Definitely try on a bigger size and see if it can be fitted to your waist, it would be a shame not to show off a skinny waist. It's almost there though.

Try the bigger size and tighten the waist with a belt. Could the dress take a bridal belt?

winterisstillcoming · 28/06/2019 00:23

Looking again, it may be too long in the body maybe? I have a similar figure to yours, and sometime if I lift the top of the straps, the dress looks so much better, but it can be difficult to adjust that area. A size bigger might drop the waist for you and you might not like that.
