Had to go wedding dress shopping alone- come and tell me what you think!

Went wedding dress shopping yesterday on a spur of the moment, it was getting to difficult to get my mum and close cousins to join as we all live in different parts of the country.

I ordered this dress from Phase eight which I think is the one, I just need a few more eyes to tell me if I'm missing anything glaringly obvious and some second opinions.

I will pay for it to be taken up when I am set on shoes. And apologies the only heels I have in the house at the moment are black boots as the rest are in storage for moving house!

I'm getting married in the scottish highlands with a party to follow in my home city. Will wear a tasteful tartan shawl outside for travelling to photos/inclement weather.

It is a beautiful dress, and am sure next size up will look much better. Great underwear will also make all the difference - IME unstructured dresses need really structured undies, especially around the waist.

I personally think it would look amazing with a long veil, but I also liked the tartan shawl idea. If you're worried about it getting caught on beads, could your mum sew a silky lining into it?

How you feel is the most important thing on the day. If you feel fabulous, you'll look fabulous.

steppemum · 27/06/2019 12:31

It's a lovely dress, looks expensive bride shop, would never guess it was high street.

But I do think it is too tight on the hips. Go for a size up and I think it will hang better. The second picture you posted shows that it should hang a bit looser.

back is gorgeous too.

cranstonmanor · 27/06/2019 12:44

*I think you could find something much more flattering for your figure. To me the loose waist doesn't do you any favours and compatibly it looks too tight around the hips/bum.

The dress itself is lovely as is your figure but I just feel like this one isn't working*

I'm sorry but I agree with this. I absolutely love the dress and think your figure is fine but the combination exaggerates your thigh area not in a good way. Maybe a larger size would work or filling the busts a bit to give it more balance but I'm not sure. I love your skin tone with this color though.

Notgoodatchoosingnames · 27/06/2019 12:46

I think it's gorgeous and doesn't at all look high street.
You look great in it too in my opinion x

noonarna · 27/06/2019 12:50

To respond to some of your doubts OP...

I just worry that people might think its too tight around the hips and bum and too low cut Not at all - it hugs your figure beautifully. I personally like to wear shapewear with things like that just to give clean lines and a smooth layer underneath so the dress doesn't cling. It makes me feel a bit more confident but you don't need it.

it looks cheap. absolutely not. I personally hate those £2k princess dresses and LOVE when a bride goes for something a bit less obvious.

I adore it OP! I used to be a stylist and I also had a 'high street' dress. People couldn't believe it wasn't designer.

TheBossOfMe · 27/06/2019 12:55

It very definitely doesn't look cheap, OP. It looks megabucks!

FenellaMaxwell · 27/06/2019 12:58

It’s gorgeous, and I think a size up will be perfect. Although I also can’t unsee the owls now.

MissPhonic · 27/06/2019 13:00

Thank you all! Looks like im dividing opinions!I'll try on the bigger dress to see if it's a better fit but I'm fairly convinced this style of dress is the one, owls and all! DP is going to love it.

Loyaultemelie · 27/06/2019 13:12

I think it's lovely and it looks very expensive. I absolutely love the owls too

ssd · 27/06/2019 13:15

Dp will love it and you do too. The majority here live it. Don't wear a big size, you have a great figure, show it off, don't hide it away. It's your big day!! I'd wear your hair loose and nice big waves, romantic.

AnneKipanki · 27/06/2019 13:22

The length looks fine.
You look lovely in it . Agree with previous people re loose fit around the waist but I think that is the style of this dress. If you feel fabulous in i t ..that is the main thing.

MummyToEthan · 27/06/2019 13:29

It's beautiful!

nothingtowearever · 27/06/2019 13:38

Gorgeous!

thornyhousewife · 27/06/2019 13:43

It looks gorgeous on you and you seem completely lovely and marvellous. What a lucky groom!

Louloubelle78 · 27/06/2019 13:48

No, not a fan. The fabric is beautiful and you have a nice shape. However, the cut isn't right. As others have said, not great even on the model. I don't think it looks right around the chest either. A bit saggy looking. Agreed to go bigger with some tailoring to flatter your figure better.

SkintAsASkintThing · 27/06/2019 13:50

You have a lovely figure and that dress doesn't flatter it at all.

And don't even get me started on the.pissed off owl.

This looks a lot more Scottish wedding to.me. And would pull off a cape or shawl.

ThatCurlyGirl · 27/06/2019 13:52

Mate whatever dress you choose you have a KILLER figure! Love the back of the first dress you shared, beautiful.

Always try sitting down, getting back up, leaning forward to shake hands/ hug guests and a few dance moves - my friend learned the hard way that not doing this is a fatal flaw.

We didn't just see her secret owl, we saw her secret Spanx and arse crack! Luckily she's a bloody good laugh and found it funny!

Littleheart5 · 27/06/2019 13:52

It’s beautiful! Congratulations :)

nicecuppaforme · 27/06/2019 13:54

I love the fact that it emphasises your hips op. I don't see it as a negative. You have a very feminine figure.

(I have no hips so look like a boy with boobs. That dress would look crap on me)

nicecuppaforme · 27/06/2019 13:55

@SkintAsASkintThing that looks like a nightgown to me.

AppleKatie · 27/06/2019 14:00

It looks great OP. Be interesting to see what the next size up looks like it terms of the way it hangs.

That French connection one is simultaneously a granny nightie and making the waif model look 5 months pregnant! Don’t be tempted away!

BlueMerchant · 27/06/2019 14:01

Beautiful shape on you, really suits your figure however I came on here to mention the owls. First thing I saw. Really puts me off the dress.

AnneKipanki · 27/06/2019 14:01

That would not show off OP's fabulous assets@SkintAsASkintThing

NanooCov · 27/06/2019 14:04

It's lovely. Get yourself some fabby new undies and it'll be perfect.

Nesssie · 27/06/2019 14:05

Its a beautiful dress and the tartan shawl, although not a obvious choice, will look fine as the theme is Scottish and I assume hubbie will be wearing the same tartan?
