Are there any conspiracy theories that you just think could have an element of truth?

I love all things conspiracy theory - from a psychological/social point of view it's interesting to see what makes people fearful or pessimistic.

But I often do see some conspiracy theories a bit like Urban legends in that they could be an exaggerated truth.

Are there any conspiracy theories or rumours that you just think 'maybe...' or even ones you're completely sold on.

easterholidays I'm friends with someone on Facebook who lives in London and is quite politically active, and she is adamant that the Grenfell tower fire death toll is actually much closer to 200. There is media blackout in place.

I feel it's another Hillsborough.

mindproject · 19/05/2019 10:32

I think a lot of things got covered up or brushed under the carpet with Grenfell.

SaskiaRembrandt · 19/05/2019 10:41

mindproject it's not a case of believing MSM instead. It's about using some critical thinking, looking for facts, evaluating them and then drawing your own conclusions. Yes, blindly believing the BBC is as bad as blindly believing the likes of Alex Jones. Personally, I find it better to look at who is telling me something and pondering why they might want me to believe that. Then doing my own research and forming my own conclusions.

My MIL & FIL were in the army, MIL was a nurse and FIL was in the royals and blues. He would spend a lot of time in close quarters to princess diana and was one of the men riding on horseback in the procession after she married Charles. Anyway... in laws are divorced now and hate each other more than I can say, but the one thing they agree on, and always talk about is how Princess Di was killed.
They both recall a story about a SAS pal who was in a pub in central London over Christmas 1997. He was drunk and mouthing off how he has proof that the government was behind Diana’s death. Anyway FIL and a couple of his pals told him to be quiet, and put him in a black cab home.
Neither the SAS man or black cab driver got home. No sign of where they went. No bodies, no abandoned vehicle, nothing. Every year the SAS mans wife put its up on Facebook that his body is still missing, nothing has ever been resolved all these years on.
MIL and FIL are more than convinced. They are absolutely adamant that not only was Princess Di killed, so was the cabbie and the SAS soldier.

WhereForArtThouBray · 19/05/2019 10:43

De Kelly is the obvious one for me.

Ohnotanothernamechange · 19/05/2019 10:45

Well yes, mindproject. No one has been held accountable for starters, obviously the fire started accidentally but someone is responsible for putting that cladding on the building. It didn't even meet fire safety regulations ffs! That is serious gross negligence. Whoever is responsible should be prosecuted for manslaughet, but I bet they won't be.

And this happened in London, in the 21st Century. It's astonishing!

Herland · 19/05/2019 10:48

Grenfell tower fire death toll is actually much closer to 200. There is media blackout in place.

But surely this would also rely on a social media blackout. The families, friends, fire fighters, mortuary staff, funeral directors, police, land Lords etc would all have to be complicit in this. I just can't see how practically that can be true.

Herland · 19/05/2019 10:49

Northern Runner given what happened to SAS man I wouldn't be passing on that info. 🤣

NorthernRunner · 19/05/2019 10:52

Haha Herland
There is a part of me, knowing my in-laws and their penchant for drama, that this probably is a very exaggerated story. However given that they never agree on anything I do wander if there is some truth to it...
In-laws left the forces years and years ago so hopefully retelling that tale doesn’t lead to any problems 😂🤦🏻‍♀️

pelirocco123 · 19/05/2019 10:56

So if Jill Dando was murdered because she was about to reveal something , you would have to assume she was the only person to know what she was going to reveal , hardly likely is it , she was a TV presenter not a bloody undercover spy

To believe some of these conspiracy theories you would also have to believe that everyone involved in the original event would be able to keep the same secret

mindproject · 19/05/2019 10:58

Transhumanism also seems to be very much grounded in reality. As an atheist I find it hard to believe it's the mark of the beast, but I do believe it's sinister and very bad for humanity.

bebeboeuf · 19/05/2019 11:01

Not landing on the moon is very plausible when you look into the physics and actually discuss it in detail with scientists

I’d love to think we did though so it’s nice to believe in it either way.

A recent interview with head of NASA gave me further doubts when he said that the reason we haven’t been back is because we have lost the rocket technology that we had back then and can’t make a rocket big enough Confused

bebeboeuf · 19/05/2019 11:02

The jill fandom thing didn’t need just her to know whatever it was though.
Killing her would have been enough of a warning for anyone else to speak up?

VoteJadot · 19/05/2019 11:02

The paedo coverup rumours have been in Private Eye since the year dot. Yet no Serbian hitmen have been dispatched to rub out Ian Hislop. Crazed fan is much more likely IMO.

Ohnotanothernamechange · 19/05/2019 11:04

People have been saying since it happened that the Grenfell death tower is higher than officially stated. If you think about it, it is believable. There was allegedly a lot of subletting going on, so people living there who shouldn't have been. Many were immigrants, if they didn't have family or friends to report them as missing then the authorities won't have known to look for them.

TheFaerieQueene · 19/05/2019 11:06

Northern Runner why weren’t your FIL and MIL killed as well? Surely they would be considered a risk? How would any agent have known about the mouthing off in a pub and been able to execute a hit so easily?

I don’t think any conspiracy theories have merit. Fiction is much more fun than fact, though, so they will always attract attention.

mindproject · 19/05/2019 11:07

I think with Grenfell the main problem is the culprits and those that should have been brought to justice by now have found it so easy to just cover their tracks. Some people are above the law.

VoteJadot · 19/05/2019 11:10

why would the fire service cover up for Grenfell?

Crinkle77 · 19/05/2019 11:10

Not sure if it's a conspiracy theory but don't believe Bin Laden is dead. Pretty sure the Americans would have wanted him alive.

fedup21 · 19/05/2019 11:12

I believe the one that says conspiracy theories are a conspiracy to distract from what's really going on.

Love this!

The paedo coverup rumours have been in Private Eye since the year dot.

I also remember a Jilly Cooper book (I know!) written about 15 years ago where the plot was set around historic child abuse in children’s homes and cover ups by many important men! Would love to know who is running scared.

NorthernRunner · 19/05/2019 11:13

faerie that’s precisely why I doubt it...I mean there were lots of soldiers in the pub, I suppose that’s a lot of men to bump off but I do doubt the validity.
My in laws don’t though and that intrigues me as this is quite literally the only thing they agree on. I have seen the wife’s Facebook posts as my MIL is still in contact with her, so a SAS soldier did definitely go missing, but even after a quick internet search I found nothing...although that doesn’t prove anything either way!

NotDavidTennant · 19/05/2019 11:17

The problem with Grenfell is diffused responsibility. The council can point the finger at the contractors, the contractors can point the figure at the manufacturers, etc, etc. Everyone has someone else they can blame and it will take years and years and lots of expensive lawyers to try to sort it all out.

MockerstheFeManist · 19/05/2019 11:29

Jill Dando and the Serbian Connection.

And speaking of the Serbs, the, ooops, 'accidental' bombing of the Chinese Embassy because the US Military were using and old A-Z.

SpamChaudFroid · 19/05/2019 11:37

That we're living in a simulation, like avatars/The Sims. According to astrophysicist Neil DeGrassi, at the point our technology is now, it would be much more likely that we are living within a simulation created by sentient beings in the future. Like for a school history project for example.

They have also found strings of mathematical code in the fabric of the universe that corresponds with the code Google uses.
