Are there any conspiracy theories that you just think could have an element of truth?

I love all things conspiracy theory - from a psychological/social point of view it's interesting to see what makes people fearful or pessimistic.

But I often do see some conspiracy theories a bit like Urban legends in that they could be an exaggerated truth.

Are there any conspiracy theories or rumours that you just think 'maybe...' or even ones you're completely sold on.

I agree in the no smoke without fire sentiment.

Whether the theories actually directly relate to the outcome - I remain dubious - but I do think in some situations there was other stuff going on.

For example 9/11. I think some of the conspiracy theories come from elements of truth. But I don't believe it was government set up. I think they ignored legitimate intelligence though which could have changed the outcome.

I agree @youarenotkiddingme - I think the cover up was in fact that they had intelligence to suggest an attack and absolutely no measures were put into place to prevent it.

Bush thought Bin Laden was no threat, but clearly that's not the case.

I can't believe that we landed on the moon. The spacesuits designed to protect from radiation were so thin it seems ridiculous. Don't believe Lee Harvey Oswald shot JFK acting as a lone nut. Something fishy about 9/11. Dr David Kelley definitely murder.

Jill Dando. It had to be a hitman.

9/11. I saw a programme with footage showing a different type of (non passenger) plane going into one of the towers. Also believe the towers would not have collapsed like that. Seems strange how coordinated and precise it was. Nothing similar has happened since.

Unless these theories are proven they could all be true.
It's only a conspiracy theory if it goes against the truth, if we don't know if something is true or not, there can't be a conspiracy theory.

Most probable imo are 911 the American gov, PM dying in 1966, Jill Dando uncovering paedo ring, Princess Diana being murdered.
I also don't think that janis Joplin nor marilyn Monroe were accidental.

Jill Dando could definitely been linked to paedo ring, have also read things about Serbian mafia or something? It defo wasn't a random I don't think.

Brittany Murphy and her husband no way died of 'pneumonia' within months of each other. I find that case quite weird actually.

Actually, I need to rephrase this to 'chose not to act' rather than chose to ignore.

I watched a programme about the Titanic actually being another ship. Some sort of insurance scam. It didn't say the sinking was deliberate, more insurance fraud. I'm not convinced but it sounded plausible.

9/11 but we’ll likely never know what actually happened in the run up, on the day or what followed.

The activity in shares just before it happened and the fact that nothing similar has happening since or before make me suspicious.

Jill Dandos murder was obviously a professional hit.

David Kelly was murdered.

Lee Harvey Oswald really was a patsy. JFK was killed by forces within get the US government. So was his brother Robert.

@Zebraantelopegiraffe I'm scratching my head at the 'no direct Southern Hemisphere flights' - what do you mean? I travel direct between South Africa and UK a fair bit so I'm confused as to what you mean by that statement!

@MidsomerBurgers I have read many memoirs by ex government people and those whom had to investigate and I believe it was Eistenhower (so?) who was going to nuke a part of America so he had a right to retaliate. I believe it was called plan Totality or something - very disturbing.
Come to think of it except the extreme conspiracists like flat earth I can see many being true or partly so.

Beating myself up because I can neither remember nor find the details. Was there some suggestion of a link between the Suzy Lamplugh case and Jill Dando? I know they were years apart but I am sure another murder was linked with JDs and at the time it was all very plausible.

JFK. I know they got some 'specialist' ballistic expert to prove that one bullet could turn around multiple times but... come on.

My money is on the mafia for that one.

The only conspiracy theory (actually a cover-up not a conspiracy) which I find somewhat plausible is the theory that the shot which actually killed JFK was shot accidentally by the secret service agent standing behind him. To my mind it’s the only one which bears a close resemblance to the way the world works.

The only 9/11 ‘conspiracy’ I believe is in the absolute lack of action taken against Saudi Arabia afterwards (where most do the men came from).

I work with/am related to a lot of engineers and architects and yes, the collapse is completely plausible. I knew quite a few people working there (even someone visiting on holiday at the time) and the eyewitness accounts are pretty much as reported.
