REALLY Panicking about new blue kitchen

Hi All, we are at the end of a pretty extensive build project. I have spent a year researching and organising my dream kitchen. I’m not usually very bold but wanted to try and be braver than my usual grey so opted for the vision a dark blue and white kitchen.
Was feeling really excited it all, even when it turned up..... but now they have started to install it really isn’t the colour I thought it would be and think it looks way too blue and overall a bit of a design disaster! We have literally spent a fortune on the house and have nothing left to improve anything else. My husband says he likes it (but he says that about everything) and now I’m in proper panic mode!!!
Anyone have any thoughts on whether I am over reacting or if I have made a terrible judgement, what I could do put it right??? Help! I’m really panicking and now feel gutted that rather than feel excited about showing off our new home, I am embarrassed about my design fail! 😫😩🙈

It is totally stunning. I love it and am extremely envious. Just done our kitchen and wish I had had the balls to go for something like that.

If you are fed up in a couple of years you can repaint it. My husband has just done ours using Little Greene which is very hardwearing.

Cambalamb · 10/11/2018 17:52

It's gorgeous!

PrettyLovely · 10/11/2018 17:54

I always think a kitchen comes together when it is "dressed" Its not finished completely yet, I am sure it will be beautiful.

I'm tempted to get a turquoise one like the Friends kitchen.

Cambalamb · 10/11/2018 17:56

Who cares what the tradesmen think??

FrumpyTrumpy · 10/11/2018 17:59

I would never have thought about blue but I genuinely really like it.

Pigflewpast · 10/11/2018 18:00

I would paint the wall behind the units in the same blue as the units. One long oak shelf the length of the wall, on that put very green houseplants, a lovely picture and a couple of oak chopping boards, maybe some white china.

I saw your pics and then this commercial came on tv in front of me. Grin

(The kitchen in this ad looks similar to yours if that gives you any ideas of the 'completed' look.)

Blue and white look good. I love it. It will take off. Trendy and fashionable. Please take some more pictures. We are planning on redoing our own kitchen next year.

DaysOfCurlySpencer · 10/11/2018 18:11

I really envy you your blue kitchen. My first ever kitchen was blue and cream and it was shiny (1980's) and not as nice as yours.

And thank you for using the k in panicking, am so fed up with people panicing about things.

kennycat · 10/11/2018 18:12

I love it, and am so envious of you gorgeous new kitchen you lucky spud.
You’ll be much happier once it’s all in. I bet it’s all just a bit overwhelming for you at the mo.

Faffandahalf · 10/11/2018 18:15

ElBelle.
Can I ask where the kitchen is from?
It’s not DIY Kitchens is it?

DistanceCall · 10/11/2018 18:17

Beautiful. You're being daft [grin

That was meant to be Grin

I think it looks gorgeous. I am not brave, and spent about 6 months deliberating over which shade of grey to paint my kitchen.

I picked one, and basically it looks like a dingy white. Sad Sometimes it pays to be bold OP!

someone I know is selling their house and their kitchen is dark blue and absolutely stunning:

I really like Stiffkey blue - we're planning on using it in our kitchen too. It looks absolutely gorgeous, OP. I'm sure you'll love it again in time.

thegreylady · 10/11/2018 18:22

Gorgeous and a bit more unusual than navy, it is stunning.

tenredthings · 10/11/2018 18:23

I like it but I would choose oak surfaces to warm it up, oak and blue go together beautifully, I think composite in grey or white will look too harsh and cold.

bevelino · 10/11/2018 18:25

OP, your new kitchen is lovely. My Dh installed a black kitchen in our house which is very similar to yours and when I first saw it I was not too happy but am now used to it and love it.

TatianaLarina · 10/11/2018 18:27

I’m an interior design snob and I think it looks great.

Bold statements with colour are always a bit shocking when they first go in, but you get used to them very quickly.

Is it too late to swap the handles for copper? I do love navy and copper together.

Blinds for those Velux windows will cut out the glare on the units if it bothers you.

rwalker · 10/11/2018 18:27

I see want you mean by looking lighter when sun on it by door .Looks great I'd buy it and herring bone floors look amazing .

sparkling123 · 10/11/2018 18:29

Love it!
