REALLY Panicking about new blue kitchen

Hi All, we are at the end of a pretty extensive build project. I have spent a year researching and organising my dream kitchen. I’m not usually very bold but wanted to try and be braver than my usual grey so opted for the vision a dark blue and white kitchen.
Was feeling really excited it all, even when it turned up..... but now they have started to install it really isn’t the colour I thought it would be and think it looks way too blue and overall a bit of a design disaster! We have literally spent a fortune on the house and have nothing left to improve anything else. My husband says he likes it (but he says that about everything) and now I’m in proper panic mode!!!
Anyone have any thoughts on whether I am over reacting or if I have made a terrible judgement, what I could do put it right??? Help! I’m really panicking and now feel gutted that rather than feel excited about showing off our new home, I am embarrassed about my design fail! 😫😩🙈

It looks great OP and the herringbone and veined quartz sounds good to me.

If you don't mind me being nosey, is it Pitch Blue?

ThanksItHasPockets · 09/11/2018 21:54

Veined quartz will look fabulous. Flecks are a bit dated IMHO.

Please share more photos as it is finished with taps and handles

Looks fab IMHO SmileSmileSmileSmileSmileSmile

@MinesATreble it is Stiffkey Blue. Most people seem to go for Hague but I was worried that was too dark so went one shade lighter. On the colour chart they don’t look much different?!

Gonzoo - yes the white does look quite harsh. I’m hoping once the pendant lights are in and I can change the lighting it will soften it a bit too maybe?!

Everyone panics over change. Have you ever bought a sofa and then once it's in your room you think god I hate it it's sooo big and over powering. Within a few weeks it's completely forgotten and it's part of your home as you just had to get used to the change.

I think your kitchen looks lovely but you are at the 'scrutinising every decision' time so this is causing you to worry rather than think about your lovely new kitchen.

Cornishclio · 10/11/2018 08:25

I think it is lovely and the space is great and I speak as someone who is just having a grey one installed at the moment although we are introducing colour by way of walls/splashbacks and have lovely quartz worktops, aluminium profiles and lighting. No way could we make a dark blue work in our kitchen and we have had a white kitchen with blue worktops for 20 years which has just been removed. I am very envious of that lovely space. What worktops have you gone for? I think light oak on the floor will look great. I think most of us query our home designs when expensive as we know there is really no turning back. I love the white on the walls so wouldn't change that. Once you have the tops on and floor down I am sure it will look great. Ignore the workmen. Most have no sense of style and just go for boring ordinary designs.

Munder · 10/11/2018 08:31

My honest opinion is that it looks like a workshop in the pictures hut that's because it's not finished.

I'm sure this can be pulled off as a kitchen in the end!

Neolara · 10/11/2018 08:34

I love it! Much better than insipid grey. I agree with someone upthread that a slightly off white might soften the contrast a bit.

seeingdots · 10/11/2018 08:52

Oh this post makes me pine for the blue kitchen we left behind when we moved house! I looks great OP!

YippieKayakOtherBuckets · 10/11/2018 09:34

Completely agree with PP about the white on the walls (is it PBW?). Blackened and Shadow White both look fabulous with Stiffkey Blue.

YippieKayakOtherBuckets · 10/11/2018 09:39

PS please don’t chicken on the veined quartz if you love it. We have Carrara Misterio in our insipid grey kitchen and it’s beautiful.

DontGoIntoTheLongGrass · 10/11/2018 09:40

Not finished yet but our blue looks great so please don't worry. We also went for dark blue blinds to match.

YippieKayakOtherBuckets Can I ask where your marble is from?

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 10/11/2018 09:44

I would put a marble composite worktop with maybe some walnut thrown in to break it up.

MinesATreble · 10/11/2018 10:09

Thank you OP. I'm surprised that's stiffkey - the greeny-grey-yness you see when you put it next to Hague is not so obvious. Thank you.

SchnitzelVonKrumm · 10/11/2018 10:43

Ha, I had it pegged as Stiffkey Blue, which is almost identical to Little Greene's Hicks Blue.

ShivD · 10/11/2018 12:10

It is lovely and just needs a bit of warming up with some brass accessories to soften the white/ blue thing.

What white are the walls?

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 10/11/2018 13:20

I like it! I think it looks better than a darker blue - more lively.

I'd be adding some green to complement it e.g. botanical prints, tall, leafy potted plant or two at floor level, smaller decorative plants on shelves (artificial ones can look good).

YippieKayakOtherBuckets · 10/11/2018 15:05

@madnessIsay it’s Unistone Carrara Misterio from a local stonemason near us in Coventry. If you’re in the West Midlands I can PM you the details; I don’t think they operate nationwide.

madnessIsay · 10/11/2018 15:59

Thank you Yippie, I’m in London but looking for recommendations for marble as never used it before. Yours looks beautiful.

Loyaultemelie · 10/11/2018 16:01

I absolutely love this Envy

Hezz · 10/11/2018 16:27

It's really pretty, don't worry anymore Brew

exaltedwombat · 10/11/2018 17:31

You've spent a year faffing over a kitchen? Get a life!

kaytee87 · 10/11/2018 17:34

@exaltedwombat you make nasty comments for no reason - get a life!

40andfeelingit · 10/11/2018 17:37

I love it. Spent yesterday afternoon designing our new kitchen which will be the same colour with white quartz worktops. Looks so simple and clean but stunning (and no grey in sight)
