Bake off - Kim joy

Just catching up, I'm watching bread week. Kim joy seems a lovely woman with her own style. She has a perfectly pleasant face....why don't her friends tell her her make up is so overkill! Bright blue eye shadow and that blusher! She looks so silly and she could look so much nicer without it all. IMHO obviously...

OP posts:

What a mean-spirited OP! I generally like anyone who has a ‘look’ - external expressions of people’s interests and personalities are fascinating and lovely to see. It’s a great way of seeing how different things appeal to different people and make us each feel good. Kim-joy seems really comfortable in her own skin and uses make-up playfully, and that’s truly to be admired.

DeathBySnoring · 03/10/2018 21:14

DeathbySnoring has come on to this thread and blurted out "oh oh you are all so horrible" when infact the vast majority of posts have been in support of KJ. So she needs to be more careful and have the courtesy not to lump every poster on this thread together.

No I did not. My comments were aimed at only those who were being horrible to KJ. A minority on this thread, I agree. I can actually read. Why on earth would anybody think I was having a go at OPs posting positive comments?

Bouledeneige · 03/10/2018 21:43

Love her, love her individuality and cool look.

So bored of all the samey style out there. Thank god for the creatives who buck the boring, middle of the road norms.

We should be so interesting and talented!

madeyemoodysmum · 03/10/2018 21:52

I think she's fab and currently want her to win.

thisneverendingsummer · 03/10/2018 23:07

@DeathBySnoring

She's absolutely amazing! We in Leeds are very proud of her. Why the fuck should she change anything about herself because of comments on here or on Twitter? I bloody well wouldn't and I expect no one on here criticising her would either.

Can you all just give yourselves a reality check please? You - a group of women - are passing judgement on the appearance of a woman who is doing really well in a skills based competition, which has no impact on how well she does in said competition.

Right O. Totally in the spirit of Mumsnet.

THIS is what you said ^ FFS stop denying it, and trying to backpedal.

You DID make out most people on here are having a go at Kim-Joy. (And not 'just a few people.') And everyone can see it!!!

At least own it and admit you fucked up, and had a go at people who had done nothing wrong. Because the more you deny it, the more silly you're looking, and the more you're embarrassing yourself.

And big deal, you live in the same CITY as Kim-Joy does.

Millions of other people live in the same city as someone famous. You're not that special dear. Wink

Bouledeneige · 04/10/2018 00:12

Wow. Thisneverendingsummer why are you getting so wound up? I didn't think Deathbysnoring was implying everyone here was slating Kim Joy when I read that post.

But what does it matter? Maybe you just misunderstood what each other were trying to say?

And breathe.

Let's rejoice in the last Belinda that is KJ and ignore the haters....

ColinsVeryJolly · 04/10/2018 00:25

I adore Kim-Joy, she’s fabulous.

DH only watches bake off for her, he’s got a right crush on her.

Whatthefoxgoingon · 04/10/2018 00:34

She’s a joy. It’s in her name Grin

thisneverendingsummer · 04/10/2018 01:58

No, I have definitely not misunderstood what @deathbysnoring was saying thanks very much. I know EXACTLY what she was saying - as do the rest of the posters who called her out. She clearly had stated that it was the majority of the posters were having a go at Kim-Joy, when almost everyone was supporting her. I'm afraid, it's YOU who has 'misunderstood...' Wink

How sweet of you to jump in and defend her though hmmm? Wink

Maybe as you are soooo defensive of this poster, and so concerned for her welfare, you may like to send her a private message, suggesting she comes on this thread to apologise for being rude, and to admit she got it wrong.

finnmcool · 04/10/2018 02:07

I think women get enough stick about how they look, it doesn't need to be added to.

I think Kim-Joy is fab, she radiates something rather wonderful IMO.

saganorenscarandcoat · 04/10/2018 08:22

She may not like your make up decisions but that's ok as she's not wearing your make up and you're not wearing hers.

CiderBrains · 04/10/2018 16:44

I bet if Kim Kardashian wore make up like it she would be bashed to buggery. Get some "quirky " woman on bake off and everyone thinks it looks great! Confused

FlamingJuno · 04/10/2018 16:56

A friend of mine is the most superb baker and we've all been trying to persuade her to apply for GBBO. But she won't, because she doesn't want to be judged on how she looks rather than how she bakes.

This ^^
My friend is a great cook and baker and I'd love him to see if he can get on GBBO but he won't because he's a mixed race, dyspraxic geeky professor. He knows he would become the subject of memes, gifs and nasty attacks on social media and he doesn't need that in his life.

CoolCarrie · 04/10/2018 17:01

I think she looks great

MarshaBradyo · 04/10/2018 17:04

I disagree in the KK thing. Kim Joy can pull it off because she looks like she does. With her own personality and skills.

ShatnersBassoon · 04/10/2018 17:08

Get some "quirky " woman on bake off and everyone thinks it looks great!

They think it looks great on Kim-Joy. There's nothing hypocritical about that.

Noel Fielding is often admired for his unusual style, a style that would probably look ludicrous on an A-lister like Tom Cruise. It's still genuine admiration, even if you couldn't love that lookon everyone or even yourself.

QuantumGroan · 04/10/2018 17:09

She's very Alannah Hill. It's an interesting look. Not everyone wants to conform to your idea of beauty OP.

CiderBrains · 04/10/2018 17:10

Personally aside, it's no different if Kim Kardashian wore that make up like Kim joy does. They are both women (who we aren't supposed to bash Wink) yet Kim Kardashian would be slaughtered.

CiderBrains · 04/10/2018 17:10

Personality not personally stupid phone!

MarshaBradyo · 04/10/2018 17:11

Nah I think we make more allowances for style and personality than that. KK can do what she does but not the same as Kim Joy

CiderBrains · 04/10/2018 17:13

But this thread was about make up, not personality.

MarshaBradyo · 04/10/2018 17:13

Yes and she gets away with it because if her style

MarshaBradyo · 04/10/2018 17:13

Helena Bonham Carter - her own style same thing

CiderBrains · 04/10/2018 17:14

She doesn't get away with it though because she looks ridiculous.

MarshaBradyo · 04/10/2018 17:14

Yo you
