Bake off - Kim joy

Just catching up, I'm watching bread week. Kim joy seems a lovely woman with her own style. She has a perfectly pleasant face....why don't her friends tell her her make up is so overkill! Bright blue eye shadow and that blusher! She looks so silly and she could look so much nicer without it all. IMHO obviously...

OP posts:
Courtney555 · 03/10/2018 19:35

I agree with you OP.

It's neither here nor there really. She can look however she likes.

I think she teeters along the knife edge, of kooky individual and bit of a state, and could look a lot more attractive if she didn't apply such a vast amount of makeup so badly. And yes, she probably would appreciate her friends telling her, if anyone wants to pretend she wouldn't like to make less effort and as a side effect, look more attractive, then, sure.

I used to spend ages carefully applying red lips, I thought it looked great. Couple of my mates one night, said "you look much prettier with nude lips than that red", I consider them good friends for that. Its no big deal in the scheme of things, its only makeup, but I'm glad they told me.

I don't find you judgy, it's just an opinion, which you clearly stated.

ShowOfHands · 03/10/2018 19:37

I'm really heartened by lots of these replies. She's utterly fab and starting a thread to criticise her own personal style choices is really not in the spirit.

Thank heavens people aren't afraid to be a bit different. I'm trying to raise young minds to embrace their individuality, not fear criticism because they don't meet somebody else's standards of what's acceptable.

AccidentallyRunToWindsor · 03/10/2018 19:37

I'm jealous of her blending skills! I would look like a prize tit if I wore it out she looks great.

OP, let's see a picture of your make up so we can decide if you look horrendous or not eh?

AccidentallyRunToWindsor · 03/10/2018 19:37

But**

Sitranced · 03/10/2018 19:39

If everybody looked the same we'd get tired of looking at each other.

Dommina · 03/10/2018 19:43

I always admire people who dare to be different. She looks totally herself, creative, happy and kind.

And how wonderful that a nasty OP has turned in to a Kim Joy Lovefest. OP, if you can't say anything nice...

NeedAUsernameGenerator · 03/10/2018 19:45

I like it. I love bright colours, I've never seen eyeshadow like that before. Too old for it myself but I might have tried it out 20 years ago.

DeathBySnoring · 03/10/2018 19:56

She's absolutely amazing! We in Leeds are very proud of her. Why the fuck should she change anything about herself because of comments on here or on Twitter? I bloody well wouldn't and I expect no one on here criticising her would either.

Can you all just give yourselves a reality check please? You - a group of women - are passing judgement on the appearance of a woman who is doing really well in a skills based competition, which has no impact on how well she does in said competition.

Righto. Totally in the spirit of Mumsnet.

MarshaBradyo · 03/10/2018 19:58

Death have you red the thread? Majority, I’d say over 95% are saying she’s great.
And looks great.
Is an excellent baker
And wears make up that suits her individual personality and is probably very kind.
Why are you addressing your post to all?

MarshaBradyo · 03/10/2018 19:58

Read

DeloresJaneUmbridge · 03/10/2018 19:59

Agree with you Death but loads of us love her too. I think she’s amazing.

Nettletheelf · 03/10/2018 20:03

I hope she wins the Bake Off.

Her style isn’t my thing but she is a delight to look at, I think. Nice to see somebody who hasn’t had ‘the treatment’ on TV (skinny, Botox, spray tan, flat ironed hair, fake pearly choppers, scary brows, contouring, yawny sexy clothes).

Legageddon · 03/10/2018 20:08

Reported
What a nasty load of comments. OP you are horrible.

FekkoTheLawyer · 03/10/2018 20:15

I saw some horrible stuff about her on Twitter too (another reason to keep it at arms length). Thats like kicking a baby seal.

I reported the lot of 'em. Shame theses not at option for 'nasty bastard' on Twitter reports.

NanFlanders · 03/10/2018 20:21

My kids and I love her. Space turtles was inspired!

TokyoSushi · 03/10/2018 20:25

She's my favourite! Love her!

thisneverendingsummer · 03/10/2018 20:27

@DeathBySnoring the majority on here are being VERY supportive of Kim-Joy.

PLEASE read the thread properly? Hmm

DeathBySnoring · 03/10/2018 20:29

I'm addressing my post to 'all' those who are being negative and judgemental about a talented woman's appearance.

If you aren't doing that then my post doesn't apply to you. I don't think it's that hard to understand.

MarshaBradyo · 03/10/2018 20:30

It sounded like you meant everyone on the thread.

EdWinchester · 03/10/2018 20:35

Her whole look is er, quirky, and the makeup is just part of that.

MagentaRocks · 03/10/2018 20:37

It did sound as if death meant everyone as there are only a couple who have agreed with the op.

DeathBySnoring · 03/10/2018 20:44

Why on earth would I criticise anyone supporting Kim-Joy? It's fabulous that she's has so much support!! She is bloody amazing!

I say again - my comments were directed only at those who posted negative comments regarding Kim-Joy. No one else.

SnipSnipMrBurgess · 03/10/2018 20:45

Mind you Briony is the one to beat, as much as I love Kim joy

A580Hojas · 03/10/2018 20:56

I don't agree that Briony is the major competition at all.

DeathbySnoring has come on to this thread and blurted out "oh oh you are all so horrible" when infact the vast majority of posts have been in support of KJ. So she needs to be more careful and have the courtesy not to lump every poster on this thread together.

VanillaSugary · 03/10/2018 20:56

A friend of mine is the most superb baker and we've all been trying to persuade her to apply for GBBO. But she won't, because she doesn't want to be judged on how she looks rather than how she bakes.

OP you have reinforced her POV. Shame on you.
