Bake off - Kim joy

Just catching up, I'm watching bread week. Kim joy seems a lovely woman with her own style. She has a perfectly pleasant face....why don't her friends tell her her make up is so overkill! Bright blue eye shadow and that blusher! She looks so silly and she could look so much nicer without it all. IMHO obviously...

I did say IMHO!

Wow. I hope she never has to meet anyone as deeply unpleasant as you in real life. What a vile thing to say about someone just because they have different taste from you.

sonlypuppyfat · 03/10/2018 18:11

She looks like she's wearing those glasses with the nose attached! But she seems a lovely woman

HellonHeels · 03/10/2018 18:11

Just had to Google her. Looks fine to me. Suggest you stick to critiquing yourself OP

A580Hojas · 03/10/2018 18:13

Well that's a very unpleasant op isn't it? Surely the very epitome of "not in the spirit of Mumsnet".

SnipSnipMrBurgess · 03/10/2018 18:13

Yeah the big lipped harsh lined botox look can do one. She looks beautiful, has style and flair and looks so comfortable in herself. I would love that alone.

YeTalkShiteHen · 03/10/2018 18:16

Actually, having thought about it more, I really admire her for being who she is and not giving a shit.

In a world of clones being shoved in our faces at every opportunity, we need more women like Kim-Joy, a little bit of happiness and dancing to her own tune.

So aye, I think she’s bloody brilliant.

CastleFeck · 03/10/2018 18:16

What a horrible thread. I think she looks lovely. I love her style and she follows it into her baking as well which is beautiful.

Littlepond · 03/10/2018 18:17

Ithink she looks amazing and I am jealous of her style! I’d like to be a bit more Kim Joy!

Freshstart40 · 03/10/2018 18:21

She's really pretty!

Molokonono · 03/10/2018 18:23

OP - would you be willing to pop a photo of yourself on here and have everyone critique it?

If not why not?

thisneverendingsummer · 03/10/2018 18:24

Oh FGS leave the poor lass alone! Hmm

Fuckingnamechanging · 03/10/2018 18:25

I think it's simply brilliant to see somebody that has their own style. I think she's great. Wacky and wonderful. She seems a very kind person too.

DeloresJaneUmbridge · 03/10/2018 18:25

I love her make up and adore her quirky style. A woman after my own heart. Must experiment with orange glitter eye shadow.

She looks amazing,

ShatnersBassoon · 03/10/2018 18:26

She seems to have a lovely eccentric but unassuming character, and I think her unusual clothing and make up is just right for her. She's great, we need more Kim-Joys on TV.

caoraich · 03/10/2018 18:27

Aww I hoped this thread was going to be about her awesome space turtles. Anyone know how to make them?

As for her face - no it's not makeup I'd wear but who gives a toss? She's obviously happy with how she looks so fair play to her.

ResistanceIsNecessary · 03/10/2018 18:28

I found her really irritating to start with but she's grown on me as the weeks have gone on. Her biscuit chandelier last week was stunning and I love the fact that she picks a theme for her bakes which is quirky and different. The chocolate galaxy with the space turtles was brilliant!

Her style is a little Harajuku-eqsue, hence the colours. I like it. I like the fact she's different and she's confident in herself and what she likes. Some of the comments about her face and appearance have been nothing short of disgusting. I'd love to see how some of the posters criticising how she looks would feel if the general public took aim at their dress sense, nose, hair and style.

I'd far rather look at Kim-Joy than a botoxed, fillered, contoured, fake-tanned, HD-browed perma clone.

CuppaSarah · 03/10/2018 18:28

She looks like an old friend and it unnerves me completely. As for her make up, that eyeshadow looks skillfully applied!

Vandree · 03/10/2018 18:31

I love Kim-joy and her makeup, it suits her and her personality. I think you are comparing her to western beauty and makeup ideals. In japan they use blush under the eyes and up to the temples and its usually quite pinky while we put blush on the apples of our cheeks usually (if using it) . Personally I prefer her colourful makeup to all the botox , HD brow, contoured, lip-fillered, faketanned clones with their hair extensions. Each to their own, I am too lazy to do much of anything makeup wise but I do admire those who do it with a bit of flare.

Vandree · 03/10/2018 18:33

^btw meant to add, I am aware Kim- Joy isn't japanese but more that her make up is similar to their style rather than more western trends

Molokonono · 03/10/2018 18:39

Aww I hoped this thread was going to be about her awesome space turtles. Anyone know how to make them?

They were amazing.

Her piping is excellent.

I want to go on a baking course that she runs, she is wonderful.

A shame so many women have to run other women down instead of celebrate them.

northlaine · 03/10/2018 18:40

She's a bit quirky and not particularly mainstream - I'd like to think how she expresses herself : clothes, unusual makeup, the thoughtful and arty touches she adds to her baking etc are a reflection of her character.

Confidence to be true to yourself is something to applaud in my book. I think she looks great. If you must judge, stick to the baking - it's what the show is about.

MarshaBradyo · 03/10/2018 18:42

Her baking is pretty, and just looked online, she does a great ciabatta

thisneverendingsummer · 03/10/2018 18:43

@Vandree

Kim-Joy was born in Belgium to an English father and Malaysian–Chinese mother. Smile

Theorbo · 03/10/2018 18:43

*Resistance beat me to it as I was just going to say she looks a bit like a Harajuku girl, style wise. It’s not something I’m crazy about but it suits her personality and makes her happy and you can’t say fairer than that I don’t think.
