How much was your engagement ring?

Feeling nosey! I was on another thread where the OP had £600 to spend on an engagement ring and the first comment was how it was a lot of money and was she sure she wanted to spend that much.

OP posts:

£3k in the sale, down from £5k. I picked 5 that I liked, he made the final decision. It wasn't the most expensive bit it is the nicest

GingerAndTheBiscuits · 25/09/2018 13:30

@NewLevelsOfTiredness - it’s not important at all. I found mine on eBay for £60 and we had a day out to pick it up from the shop. Went for a pint while it was resized and I put it on my own finger Grin

@Tiredmum100

Best answer yet. I was waiting for someone to say that!

@NewLevelsOfTiredness that's why I said mine was priceless. I'm not joking. By the looks of this thread mine is very cheap in comparison. What it represents is far more valuable than anything money can buy. It represents for me someone who met me when I was in a bad place in the life, gave me the love and support to move on to better things and wanted to marry me. I didn't need a ring and I'm not in carats, cuts etc, don't have a clue. I love my dh, he's my best friend and I'm lucky to him. Plenty of my friends feel same as me. Not everyone wants a expensive ring!

NewLevelsOfTiredness · 25/09/2018 13:44

@Tiredmum100

That's very heartwarming. I'm glad you found each other :)

notacooldad · 25/09/2018 13:46

Blimey, some of you really love your rings.
I've never worn a ring in my life and hearing about some of these price tags baffles me!!
Some if them sound gorgeous though.

slyoldfoxystoat · 25/09/2018 13:46

£0 as didn't want one.

amusedbush · 25/09/2018 13:47

£300. My wedding ring is a £120 plain band.

I'm not into sparkly stuff - it's the only jewellery I wear aside from a ring through my septum Grin

artemisdubois · 25/09/2018 13:50

£4000, though it had originally been on sale for a little over £7000. I'd told fiancé to save his money and get me an inexpensive band, but he knew I'd always wanted an emerald, found a particularly rare and special one and blew the 'budget' massively.

I couldn't have designed a more 'perfect' (for me) ring, though. It's a 1.8 carat emerald cut emerald - very bright green and exceptionally clear - with 2x 0.3 carat diamonds.

BusterTheBulldog · 25/09/2018 13:52

Think it was about £3k, had no clue what I wanted, husband designed it all himself, it’s bloody lovely! Wedding ring was similar price I think, was quite taken aback by that

Rarfy · 25/09/2018 13:52

Mine was around about £500. I thought it a bit much nut do insisted on a figure so he didn't look cheap.

I love it but i would have loved anything as it means we are getting married which is the bit that is important to me.

StarfishSandwich · 25/09/2018 13:56

It’s insured for £1,800 I think, which would be the price to replace it like for like at an independent jewellery designer (it’s a custom design) but it was designed by a family member and DH only paid cost price (and family member insisted on upgrading certain things after the price was agreed upon so put himself out of pocket!) so although I have no idea how much he paid, I would imagine it was probably around half that figure.

DianaPrincessOfThemyscira · 25/09/2018 14:05

About £150. I don’t wear it anymore as it irritates me, and DS3 found it under his bed when tidying the other day. He probably hid it there when he was a toddler - he’ll be 7 in a month!

Some of you spent more on your ring than I spent on my wedding. I wish I was rich and I probably would have done the same!

Rockbird · 25/09/2018 14:07

£200 20 years ago. That was a lot to us as we didn't have any money. Can't wear it at the mo as my fingers are too fat. One day...

weegiemum · 25/09/2018 14:49

£29. From Ratners (who remembers them?). We were poor students. The cubic zirconia stone came out and got lost about a year ago, we've been married 23 years. I'm getting a new one when I reach my target weight!

slug · 25/09/2018 16:14

£700 17 years ago. Designed by DH in consultation with the jeweller.

Mooey89 · 25/09/2018 16:18

I think mine was about £800.
That is a lot for us. DH saved and chose it himself and it is very unusual and gets a lot of comments.
I’ll show it off here as I got married 2 days ago so want to show everyone 😂

How much was your engagement ring?
TheGhostOfYou · 25/09/2018 16:26

£125 I think it was

MaMisled · 25/09/2018 16:31

3 diamonds £700 15 yrs ago. Makes me happy every day.

myusernameisnotmyusername · 25/09/2018 16:49

Mine was £1500 but I think it was worth more as DP got it in the jewellery quarter in Birmingham.

furandchandeliers · 25/09/2018 16:53

First test one was £600 second one £1600 BlushGrin

Nightjane297 · 25/09/2018 16:56

Find it a bit gross what people know how much they cost. I don't know and don't want to! It's a gift ffs

Nightjane297 · 25/09/2018 16:58

#that people know

DianaPrincessOfThemyscira · 25/09/2018 16:59

Well DH and I chose it together as I couldn’t rely on him getting one I liked.

Plus we got engaged after we already had two kids so all money was shared anyway.

shinywinkywhoo · 25/09/2018 17:39

£800 ten years ago, bsolutely beautiful, I was so proud to wear it, Art Deco style in a run over setting we are getting a divorce and I miss wearing it so much 😢 Can't even look at my rings anymore, too painful.
