Inspired by a thread about hygiene - carpets in kitchens and toilets, I thought it could be interesting to recall some of the diabolical tat from the past.

Rollers!

Mum used to set my hair in them with pins and I'd have to try and sleep in them with a hairnet.

A 10 year old Hilda Ogden. 😳

Spermysextowel · 17/08/2018 23:09

I thought they were Avon butt-plugs.

TornFromTheInside · 17/08/2018 23:09

I remember this too!

elephantoverthehill · 17/08/2018 23:22

My Dm still has an Ewbank and her DGCs love it. I think they are still much loved by caravan owners.

TornFromTheInside · 17/08/2018 23:29

Other people love her DGCs as well as caravan owners!

Campari and lemondade. DM's must have tipple of the 70s and 80s. I tried it once. Disgusting.

tinkerbellone · 17/08/2018 23:49

@PenelopeShitStop
Yes! I had that bedroom. The curtains were in browns with that pattern!

tinkerbellone · 17/08/2018 23:51

I had one of these

Football cards?

For kids to collect and swap.

Given away free in cigarette boxes.

Pic on the front. Details on the back. GPs + their friends used to save and collect for us. We hated football, so they were wasted!

CantGetDecentNickname · 18/08/2018 01:56

Cocolepew on page 29 - the fibreglass lamp - had the identical thing. Saw one a few years ago in antique market in Greenwich, they were asking £60 for it and had called it “retro”. Brought back memories, mostly of knocking it over...

crabb · 18/08/2018 02:31

Anyone else do beaten copper ‘art’? This was done by my MIL.

Seriously tacky and grim...
IJustHadToNameChange · 18/08/2018 04:02

I'll see your beated copper with metallic bits attached and raise you string art

A kind of 3D spirograph with precisely pinned nails and string wrapped round the nail heads....

IJustHadToNameChange · 18/08/2018 04:03

beaten 😳

MinnieTilda · 18/08/2018 05:57

I wonder if Torn is Samantha Brick's new pseudonym....see DM article on Friday re: tackiest interior design.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 18/08/2018 06:45

Penelope I had that bedding but in yellow%orange/Brown coloureay. I was very excited because I'd never had a continental quilt before (we didn't call.them duvets in the 70s). I also had matching curtains.

We moved house when I was 10 and I was horrified that the bedrooms in the new house had plain carpets rather than patterned ones. Luckily my new bedroom did have swirly Orange and brown patterned wall paper.Grin

littleowltoo · 18/08/2018 07:06

I bring you the Avocado bathroom suite.
Confesson: I still have an avocado coloured toilet and corner sink in the back cloakroom. Left by previous owner and I’ve never got round to changing it.

Torn I got Shield soap recently, in Poundstretcher or somewhere like that. It might be retro but it still smells lovely. And it's useful because when you say to a small child 'did you wash your hands?' you can immediately tell if they're lying because the smell of the soap is so strong!

morningconstitutional2017 · 18/08/2018 08:28

Haven't RATT but looked at all the pictures. OMG as a child I'd look through those Marshall Ward catalogues and I really loved the toilet roll holders, towel rails, etc which were in the shape of a golden dolphin. Can't do the photos.

A friend has ghastly china ladies with frilly ball gowns holding muffs, baskets of flowers - I'm sure you know the ones.

An elderly neighbour has a cream crocheted poodle loo roll hider - something I haven't seen for a long time.

I loved Creamola Foam as a child.
