Seriously tacky and grim...

Inspired by a thread about hygiene - carpets in kitchens and toilets, I thought it could be interesting to recall some of the diabolical tat from the past.

We had one of these

loubeylou68smellsofreindeerpoo · 17/08/2018 21:12

And nylon sheets 😖

IllHaveALargeGlassOfRed · 17/08/2018 21:15

National health specs. My poor wee sister wore these with a giant eye patch to correct a lazy eye. She hated them and tried her best to destroy them but they were virtually indestructible Grin

CocteauTwin · 17/08/2018 21:15

StoneofDestiny I remember Creamola Foam, the 'fizzy' drink you got if your parents were too tight to buy proper lemonade, even the slightly sub-par stuff from the Alpine van. Except my Mum rationed how much CF granules went into the glass, meaning you got water with a very vague taste of lemon, orange or raspberry and a couple of bubbles if you were lucky. A Scottish 70s right there.

I used to eat Creamola straight out the tin. The burps! My god - they came from the soles of my feet! Smile

WhentheDealGoesDown · 17/08/2018 21:20

I also had NHS specs, they were round pink ones and a large patch on one eye unfortunately it didn’t work and I am still practically blind in one eye but at least I ditched the specs when I was about 7 as it didn’t work.

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 17/08/2018 21:21

Those were my glasses LargeGlass! 😂

Proseccoagain · 17/08/2018 21:21

I want the drinks trolley - including all the drinks!

mothersanonymous · 17/08/2018 21:24

You can't scare me. DD made me watch Celebrity Big Brother last night

StoneofDestiny · 17/08/2018 21:33

CocteauTwin
I saw the stuff being sold in a retro tourist shop in Callendar a few years ago! Hate to think what was in it. It was like an experiment in a science lab making it 😂😂

IllHaveALargeGlassOfRed · 17/08/2018 21:33

Did you wear the patch actually on your eye or on the specs? My dad used to riiiiip it off my sisters eye 🤨

IllHaveALargeGlassOfRed · 17/08/2018 21:37

Ooh Double Dipper!

I was a mixer!

SchadenfreudePersonified · 17/08/2018 21:44

and this 'drinks trolley' which my mother had

I have BOTH of those houseplants, Torn, but not the drinks trolley

My Horrible Nana had the toilet roll holder, but hers was pink - not unlike the delightful toilet set you have shown us Envy

elephantoverthehill · 17/08/2018 21:44

Margot I too was musing about cornish pasty shoes, but thought I might get some weird google images. We had sandals in the 70s that were possibly Clark's, I think we called them 'Jesus boots', anyway if you left them outside in the sun the soles would melt. I was reminded of this, on holiday, when Ds complained that his sliders were sticking to the pavement.

PenelopeShitStop · 17/08/2018 21:45

Did anyone else have this tastefully understated bedding? I had the matching curtains and lampshade, and my carpet was emblazoned in huge triffid stylee peach flowers.

Basically my whole bedroom looked like a really bad acid trip.

NotTheFordType · 17/08/2018 21:46

I wonder what people will post about us in 40 years.

Haven't RTFT but I'm guessing
Big words stenciled on walls - "Always KISS me GOODNIGHT" being the most common offense
Wooden cut-out words/letters giving tragically obvious advice, e.g. "Bathe" on the bathroom windowsill
Astroturf gardens

WhentheDealGoesDown · 17/08/2018 21:48

I’m sure I wore the patch on my good eye, with pink round specs on top, I was quite young, I don’t know how I managed to see though as my eye is quite bad, I spent a lot of my early childhood at the eye clinic, it doesn’t really bother me now as I have always had it, so it is not like suddenly losing most of your sight in one eye

SchadenfreudePersonified · 17/08/2018 21:48

The Toilet Bride is lovely! Grin

elephantoverthehill · 17/08/2018 21:52

I was quite lucky with NHS specs as a teenager because Elvis Costello was really cool, even if my classmates called me ' Joe 90'.

arranfan · 17/08/2018 21:55

Joe 90 - In retrospect, is anybody else freaked by the young serial killer, his bizarre home set-up and BIG RAT?

SchadenfreudePersonified · 17/08/2018 21:57

This bloody thing

Wings of Love . . .

Also - that Chinese Woman with the green face. Also from Boots IIRC

BMW6 · 17/08/2018 22:00

Anyone remember Tabu perfume around the early 70's?

Sissyjd · 17/08/2018 22:02

OMG OMG OMG!! The crochet squares waistcoat My mum had one! And the hanging glass ball net things with SHELLS on the tassels.Ahh my childgood. 😊My friends grandparents had the hanging things AND a mini bar with....a Pineapple ice container & Spinning bar stool!! Eh. Very Margo and Jerry!! 😁😉

VQ1970 · 17/08/2018 22:02

Penelope we definitely had something with that pink design on it. I’d forgotten about it but seeing your pic has jogged something.

I also had orange nylon sheets.
