Inspired by a thread about hygiene - carpets in kitchens and toilets, I thought it could be interesting to recall some of the diabolical tat from the past.

Fucking Eternal fucking Beau. I thought I had erased that shower of shit from my mind forever!

time4chocolate · 17/08/2018 20:18

Great thread OP- not sure if I have missed wicker picnic hampers getting a mention? My mum had one just like this and I would play with it for hours.

I had a friend who had an 'Eternal Beau' Dinner service. When she married she was given it by the crateful; bins, chopping boards, lampshades etc. She spent years getting rid of it, every time I see some in a charity shop I really want to buy it for her but she would probably end up throwing it at me Grin. I went for the lesser known 'Summerfields' range, at least it is round. I have loads of it, I could open a cafe or cater weddings. It has been very useful to replace bits cheap on ebay with 3 DCs. But when I was growing up we had this for every day. The tea stained the cups.

Polyveldts were all the rage when I was about 8 or 9. Hordes of pre- teen children marching round wearing Cornish pasties on their feet. My Nana liked them so much she bought some for herself Grin.

Adidas coloured track suit bottoms. I'm ashamed to say I had several.

We also had a horrid coloured bathroom.

dementedma · 17/08/2018 20:34

Simon was a great game!

We used to have one of these, it was well ahead of it's time, a Sony black & white portable TV. It lasted years and years.

Absolutely loving this thread. I'm born 1975 and have seen 90% of these items in my parents or grandparents homes!

In 1993/4 you could save up tokens from packets of Skips crisps and get a FREE Global Hyper colour T-Shirt.

Surely some of you also had a 'The Last Shot' musical, suicidal dog drink decanter?

user1486076969 · 17/08/2018 20:38

...actually, looking back at the title of the thread, it wasn't tacky and grin at the time but pretty trendy for its' time Grin.

ghostygloves
I remember those candlewick bedspreads where you could pick out the tufts and render them bald in certain places. It passed the time when I was home from school with a cold.

StoneofDestiny · 17/08/2018 20:43

I offer you this...

StoneofDestiny....?

DagenhamRoundhouse · 17/08/2018 20:47

I coveted a Pebbles doll (from the Flintstones) but never got one.

user1486076969 · 17/08/2018 20:47

StoneofDestiny - ignore my last, there was no photo showing when I first looked Grin.

Cocolepew · 17/08/2018 20:49

Fibreglass lamps, used to give you splinters.

We moved into this house in the mid 1980's and we replaced the bathroom pretty much straight away.

The same bath suite is still here - it's a lovely shade of Champagne.

LemonRedwood · 17/08/2018 20:53

I very much doubt they were safety glass - just so damn thick you'd struggle to break one.

They definitely weren't safety glass. Put my arm through the fluted glass living room door aged 17 during a spat with my sister. There was blood everywhere, looked like a murder scene, still have the scars. Mum was secretly pleased cos she'd never liked that glass anyway

Currywurstmitpommes · 17/08/2018 21:00

Ours weren’t safety glass either lemon my sister ran through one of ours when she was nearly 2. No one knew how she did it but she didn’t even have a scratch. Every house in the street had them replaced after that though.

Claw001 · 17/08/2018 21:02

Torn I have the silver jubilee coin! Also a five pound coin, which my mum gave me. Also a tin of 1/2p’s and ‘old money’!

WhentheDealGoesDown · 17/08/2018 21:03

I think we had most things mentioned on this thread, I had a radiogram in my bedroom and a small telly and a lot of people had something called an 8 track cassette in their cars

Mexicantortilla · 17/08/2018 21:04

DGRossetti

Somewhere, on eBay, sellers are rubbing their hands .. Somewhere, in China, an entire region is being prepared to supply the west with Hostess Trolleys.
