A few years ago I worked with a woman who is a similar age to me, and it turned out that her older sister is a TV presenter and sort of lifestyle influencer (bit a big age gap, so not like your situation ). Food, interior design, all stuff adjacent to that. We hang out a little bit socially as well for a while, but we're not in contact now, and I work in a different area today anyway.
For the record, the sister is really nice. I have a lot of time for her, and she's genuinely great at what she does.
I met her big sister a few times. And oh my god, I've never met anyone so vapid, bitchy and grasping. A real superiority complex, but for no good reason really because she's sort of bang average. Her whole schtick is about being relatable yet cool, but it's a total veneer. The person she appears to be online and in the media is nothing like the person I encountered in real life.
She used to form a double act with another TV presenter / podcaster woman who is, I gather, quite nice, down to earth and genuine (I've heard from a few trusted sources) . Then they had a HUGE falling out over money and their enterprise all fell apart. But they said nothing, so lots of people were left wondering, what happened to those two who were everywhere between 2014 and 2018 (or whenever it was, can't quite remember now).
I also met another woman once who was an influencer and shared a manager with them, and had gone on the same press tour as them. She told me she thought they were basically an industry plant - a collaboration designed to further their own visibility rather than something that had happened organically. She described the horrible one as an emotional vampire, whereas the other, apparently, would just sit back and watch her show off.
Said presenter/ influencer also has a very successful husband in a creative field who is extremely well regarded and respected. I do sometimes wonder whether he helps her out and pushes her career, perhaps indirectly. He must know a lot of big names. I've met him a couple of times too, and he seemed nice enough, pretty sound, actually.
By now it's probably fairly obvious who I'm talking about. Oh well, may as well go for broke...
Perhaps the most annoying thing has to be that she's a "professional Northerner" (no one cares) - but yet lives... in London.
