I won’t be saying who they are.

I recently spoke to a friend about it who
had lots of questions which lead to an interesting conversation, things I’d never said or thought about before.

When I was younger I used to feel incredibly jealous of them and had a very short and unsuccessful attempt at creating my own fame.

Now I’m older with my own dc and have seen the effects up close I definitely think the negatives out way the positives and it’s not something I would ever want for my children.

Not a bad AMA as most people won’t have experienced it. I always wonder how families contain themselves when total dross appears in the papers about you little brother or older sister.

Your post asking if OPs siblings was Gary Glitter, was the “crappiest” post on MN for a long time.

I never said it was invented here. I said it was a MN term. Which it is. Like DH, MIL, and a multitude of others. Sure they are used in a lot of other places but when people have no idea and ask what they mean, you tell them it is a MN acronym for whatever. They are obviously asking because they haven't seen it before, either here or anywhere else.

If they are posted about in a negative way, is it true? I often find myself wondering how much of the negative gossip stories about celebrities are actually true, and, if they are true, how much of an effect they have on that person. Is “there’s no such thing as negative publicity” actually a thing, or does it get to them?

It's interesting that they became famous and then did reality TV - I think becoming famous because of reality TV must really be difficult for all around.

Pretty much all threads are about people. It's anonymous, why would one then go and tell the person about the thread?

I've posted about my Dsis, MIL, DH and even my boss.
Of course people don't then tell them they've posted threads about them.

Not interested in who it is, so have only read the OP's posts (in which OP helpfully quotes the questions).

I would like to know: did your sibling enter their line of work because they really wanted to do that particular job, or because they wanted to be famous/ rich?

Is it possible to do the job(s) they have done and NOT be famous?

Do they have a special talent, did they work super hard, were they lucky, or a combination of those?
