My sibling is a celebrity AMA

I won’t be saying who they are.

I recently spoke to a friend about it who
had lots of questions which lead to an interesting conversation, things I’d never said or thought about before.

When I was younger I used to feel incredibly jealous of them and had a very short and unsuccessful attempt at creating my own fame.

Now I’m older with my own dc and have seen the effects up close I definitely think the negatives out way the positives and it’s not something I would ever want for my children.

Very presumptuous of you! I didn’t even know that Katie Price has a sister called Sophie. So not only is the claim that “my sister is a celebrity”, a bit dubious (yes I know KP is a celebrity but I repeat a dubious one), but her sister doing a AMA based on KP is a bit urrgh, KP being not everyone’s opinion of a TRUE celebrity in the class of A listers that have international acclaim.

I personally do not think OP would be getting on MN with a AMA about KP, totally unnecessary and would be really disappointing if it was.

She has been on here before, also other chat forums I believe

So not her then! The fact that she has been on here and other chat forums cancels her out unless she is so desperate to keep milking it.

It's very obvious who the so called celebrity is (or meant to be). I'm very surprised Sophie came on here though. Suggests not all is well (although when has it ever been).

If it is KP then this thread is a pack of lies tas she isn't the success story painted by OP at all.

Over40Overdating · 17/08/2026 11:10

I think this thread has proved how weird attitudes to celebrity are - people being chippy with @zedtree for not giving enough detail for them to guess or confirm who her sibling is had nothing to do with people wanting to ask more specific questions and everything to do with people wanting to have information about a celebrity to confirm proxy access.

I worked in the entertainment industry for decades. The first question people would ask is ‘oh my god do you know lots of famous people’ as if that was somehow special or exciting or the whole reason to do the job. It wasn’t!

I’ve seen up close the consequences of fame because of the attitude that famous people are special and also obligated to give every facet of their life up to public access as payment for being special.

Whilst I agree that some famous people manage to have more private lives than others, it still doesn’t mean it’s easy - they will still have members of the public waiting outside their houses, following them in public, making daily activities impossible with their intrusion. People saying ‘oh that’s the price they pay for fame’ don’t understand or care just how unhinged and entitled people can be.
Imagine not being able to buy loo roll or tampons without someone shoving a camera in your face and then getting angry with you for not wanting to smile and pose for a picture with them. Or as OP has said, not being able to go to family events because they become all about you. It’s isolating. And all because people loose their minds in the presence of someone famous.

I‘ve seen people screaming and shaking and crying in the presence of actors and singers who are good at their job but otherwise very dull people, and it’s baffling.

I think people who choose to go down the reality celeb route or being famous for selling their whole lives on line are naive as much as they might be greedy or deluded. You cannot put the geni back in the bottle and you can’t know the misery being seen as public property - whether that’s to idolise, gossip about or tear down - can bring until you are in it. That being said my sympathy is more limited for those than it is for people who can’t go to Tesco to buy bread anymore because they happen to be good at singing or acting.

I suppose she was in her early days and when she was with Pete and had a proper manager, although she's never had a talent other than getting her tits out. Her books were ghost written.
Sadly now she's a laughing stock at best, and an all-round nasty person at worst.

bitontheobtuse · 17/08/2026 11:51

@Over40Overdating Agree with this. I know someone in the film industry who has his name in the credits of a number of v. famous films about which some people can get obsessed (like Star Wars franchise etc but not that). His face doesn't appear on screen. All the same, he has had to completely lock down social media, and cannot be found anywhere online apart from his IMDB profile and the name of his agent. That's it.

He is extremely reticent about his work, and avoids mentioning it at all. I knew him for several years before he told me what he did for a living. You could get blood out of a stone easier than information out of him. Yes he does know lots of famous people. He's worked with them, probably socialises with a few, and would have their personal contact details. I meet him occasionally at events, and have heard others asking him leading questions hoping he's going to spill all the gossip about an Oscar-winning director or film star. As if.

I’m not understanding the outrage at KP being called successful if it is about her.

she’s (or was) massively successful in her field.

Over40Overdating · 17/08/2026 12:42

@bitontheobtuse I have had a very small taste of that ‘leading questions’ scenario when I worked with some very high profile people and it’s just so tedious when you just want to chat to people about the weather or where you went on holiday and you’ve got people obsessively asking ‘what about x person’ or ‘is this gossip true’.

I get that back in the day access to celebs was more limited and so the veneer of glamour was shinier and more intriguing when every day life seemed dull in comparison - and there were more personalities who leaned into it - but I would have thought the era of gossip sites and reality TV would have shown that being famous is quite shite in a lot of ways and not aspirational or glamorous, yet instead it’s getting worse.

I know he hasn’t been active as a blogger recently and of course is now hospitalised but that era of peak Perez Hilton combined with reality TV and camera phones started a trend of media intrusion that has had devastating effects on people, who live very constrained and paranoid lives now because of it. Not all of them have the wealth and fame to ‘compensate’ for that and the lack of humanity we often show famous people especially those with MH issues caused by media pile ons, doesn’t reflect well on us as a society.

justasking111 · 17/08/2026 12:57

Friend a pilot who now flies the rich and famous wherever they need to be has never spilled the beans and wouldn't.

I priced up a jet last night for extended family. 13 of us flying out next month Monday to Friday. At 3.20 AM both ways Manchester Lisbon return flight. It was £54k in a prop jet. £58k otherwise.

AHH well would need a huge lottery win.

She has the appearance of being wealthy but isn't. A lot of it is smoke and mirrors. Her house is a rental. I expect most of her surgeries etc are freebies in exchange for publicity.

She's still paying off creditors.

bitontheobtuse · 17/08/2026 13:48

@Over40Overdating It is the media pile-ons, isn't it? Large numbers of famous people have no attention at all from the gutter press until the journalists need a 'story' to sell their papers. Then it is a knives-out free-for-all, and when anyone says hang on a minute, this isn't right, the answer from many people is that the famous person deserves it, they knew it would happen, and in a lot of cases they go out of their way to deliberately court the publicity. Like having to bundle their children out of the kitchen door of a restaurant into a car with blacked-out windows in order to avoid the baying mob of paps out the front is something we all aspire to.

zedtree · 17/08/2026 14:00

Well I'm more interested in the positive actually - cos I really can't see what it would be. Any examples?

Obviously the possible earning potential is a positive and then there is often more freedom, variety and downtime than working a normal 9-5.

They’ve had lots of fun, gone to lots of places, met lots people, achieved many things and experienced things most people dream of. They also do just get a real buzz from the attention and excitement.

Interesting thread! Some questions:

  • Have they had cosmetic work done for their career? It seems most celebs have a lot more work done than they admit to, and one of the things that makes it most obvious is when you see them with their non-famous siblings.
  • If they did, was there pressure to do so? Or was it more that being famous makes people a bit vain, because you have to be professionally a bit obsessed with your appearance, and there's realistically only one way that goes. It seems like a lot of celebrities are absolutely fixated on how they look. Even ones you wouldn't think it mattered to.
  • Similarly, do you find that being treated like the most important / interesting person in the room all the time rubs off on them, and they start internalising the same attitude? Celebrities all claim to be so down to earth, but I think it must be harder than they admit to hold onto that. It's very easy to buy into your own hype if people are blowing smoke up your arse all day long! Do you ever feel like you have to check your sibling on this, and is it awkward?
  • Does your sibling worry about losing their celebrity status? How do you think they would cope if they did?
  • In the same vein: how much do they follow online conversation about them? Do you think their relationship with social media is healthy or unhealthy?

Yes, it’s extremely rare to find a celebrity who hasn’t had any tweakments, many just don’t admit it. Bit of both, there’s pressure but seeing your face on tv and having people constantly comment on your appearance is going to make you vain and give you a complex.

-Yes, you can’t be completely down to earth when you constantly given special attention and treatment so it’s not necessarily their fault. I have done, but they are who they are and it’s not really worth it.

-I think so and I’m not sure, I half think they wouldn’t cope at all and half think they would cope much better. I also don’t know if you can fully lose a celebrity status, once you’re famous and are all over the internet there will always be some interest in you and what you’re doing.

-I don’t think they tend to read things about themselves anymore and have got better about ignoring things they do but I wouldn’t say they have a healthy relationship with social media.
