No, I've cleared 3 houses. Very little went to the tip. Most went to charity or friends. I kept a few things.

Sorry you had to go through that 3 times.
But you done you`re best to donate as much as you could.

8 jackets/ coats
6 trousers/ jeans
8 skirts
5 dresses

14 tops / t shirts
10 sweatshirts/ jumpers/ hoodie/ cardigans
6 shoes/ boots

Yes, they came from poverty in Ireland and never had much, so what they had was hard earned and looked after. It went to various charities and good causes. I kept a few things of sentimental value.
Very little was actually thrown away. Even old blankets and towels went to an animal rescue centre.

So you're not a minimalist @Cottagecheeseisnotcheese ?

I can’t decide whether that amount is a lot or not. It’d be interesting to find what most people’s average is. Not on S&B though, I think that average would be high.

Where do you live that doesn't get wintry weather?

Im not going to say right where i live but i am in the uk.
Winters is my favorite time of the year, of course it gets cold i just get on with it.
I dont need winter boots, a good pair of trainers keep my feet warm enough.
The last pair of wellies i owned i think i was about 8.

I'm not a minimalist but it's a great deal less than most people and that is winter summer sports weddings funerals casual work wear etc as I do need a wardrobe for 2different lifestyles and the 4seasons in 1day we get in western Scotland

You say you have 2 lifestyles and 4 seasons.

Sounds like op has 1 life and 1 style and lives all seasons freely .
Im so jealous.

It really isn't.

Cottagecheeseisnotcheese · 28/07/2026 22:23

@IlovedLadybirdbooks it's a tiny bit below average but the average of 118 doesn't include bags and accessories and I could easily be below 100, OP has 75 including shoes and backpack
Lots of set piece ideas like 33-3 only count outer layers of clothes no sleepwear gym or underwear and it's 33 items for 3 months . If 118 is average there are lots of people with more than average to make it average.
I suspect if many people counted what they actually wear as opposed to what is in the wardrobe most people wear only 60-70%of what they own. I do I have occasional wear items which I might not wear frequently but I don't want to re buy so I wear the same 2 dresses for all occasions with with 2 interchangeable jackets and shoes and a hat if necessary OP doesn't need formal wear , but I do and it can't really be worn informally.

Ok. I was going to guess Scotland, but maybe not.
I'm sure the broad area isn't outing!

I think it is who wants to cook every day.

Tbh if I had the money I'd absolutely not cook. You can get such good fresh food these days premade if you're not living on Basic Range etc.

I agree. I have stashed of "going out dresses" from when I used to have a socal life, and from buying just in case. Skirts and trousers and dresses for every day wear but I consistently wear a small selection. But getting rid feels like such a, waste of money...
