As title.

If you're going to raise climate issues please make sure you have your facts right before you post. There is a lot of incorrect PR and social media comment about plastic turf going around at the moment.

Which are you - a bit of a chav who is a glutton for punishment, or a bit of a troll who knows their mn audience?!

Just AMA is it? No answers 😂

🤣 Was just going to say the same thing! I wonder if the OP is intending to come back.

ShutupLwren · 30/06/2026 13:43

Like a PP we moved into a house with it.
I hate it but a have a dog with a grass allergy so it’s handy for DDog.
It does stink unless well cleaned though. I miss real grass and the smell. I’ve planted trees and flowers around it. I just miss real grass.

LOL - there are a couple of newly-renovated cottages near us, and the developer laid some absolutely foul fake grass in front of both of them.

I was very amused to see that both "lawns" have since sprouted weeds all over (presumably some sort of tough horsetail or similar, plus inadequate weed-blocking underneath) - it looks doubly dreadful, and a bit of a lose-lose all round because it now needs treating/cutting.😆

A plastic mat with fake grass will soon acquire soil if any leaves/other natural debris isn't cleaned off regularly. I imagine they're actually quite hard to clean.

So what made you stop having made such a good start?

Having disabled kids to look after.

shockthemonkey · 30/06/2026 13:45

"If you're going to raise climate issues please make sure you have your facts right"

Which facts? Real facts, or "your" facts?

or maybe you like to call them "alternative" facts...

DarkchocolateAndtea · 30/06/2026 13:46

Oh op, you're brave for posting this, as it is a well know MN criminal act 😂
If done properly and not rug like, with plants/bushes/garden ornaments etc it can look a bit more realistic. While pn this topic I cannot stand fake flowers, the kind where they look fake and cheap from miles away!! Some look real so I don't mind odd ones of those.

If I had the money I'd hire a gardener as I'm rubbish at it all! I do have real grass, some lights, and pots, odd ornamanet but our garden is a bit sad and barren!!

ThreadGuardDog · 30/06/2026 13:46

StressyMcStressFace · 30/06/2026 12:50

Are you going to add some plastic flowers to complete the look?

Our neighbours have delightful plastic hanging baskets everywhere. I have a feeling their lawn is going to be next !!

Birchwoods · 30/06/2026 13:47

The latest chav stamp. Awful stuff. The loss of habitat in gardens should be enough of a deterrent but the negatives of plastic grass are far more than that, as detailed above. Not negative PR, it’s fact.

I have artificial grass so in case op doesn’t come back, here are some things i can answer 😂

-DH chose to put it in for low maintenance. We have 2 little kids. Can be used all year round more easily. Primary school has done the same.

-We have put lots of real plants around the patio and at the front of our house. Lots of bees etc

-We have been assured that it will not devalue our house. Our house is a 3 bed family home in a sought-after area and apparently the lawn still appeals to families.

-Yes the grass does get hot, but generally if the grass is too hot, it means the the sun is too hot for my young kids to be out in anyway without shade.

-Next door has their garden entirely covered in patio.

MyDeftDuck · 30/06/2026 13:53

My late neighbour had his lawn ripped up and artificial grass laid down……..’it is top of the range you know, we had the best quality’ he said smugly when the job was complete, but he was a snob and always had THE BEST of everything!
Problem was, the lawn area sloped and after a particularly freezing cold and wet night one winter he went arse over apex on his fabulous plastic grass……..because he couldn’t get a grip on it.
House was sold, new bloke ripped up the plastic grass, levelled the lawn area and laid turf…….looks so much better now……and watching him work, stripped to the waist was most pleasing on the eye!

LooksLikeIPickedTheWrongWeekToQuitDrinking · 30/06/2026 13:54

Artificial lawn! Dear lord, why? 🥴

I suggest a robot mower for those who don’t have 30 minutes per week to mow.

loulouljh · 30/06/2026 13:54

They are horrible sorry....

Safarisagoody · 30/06/2026 12:46

lol, you want us not to refer to the heavy carbon footprint, the fact it takes about 15 years to degrade, usually in landfill, the fact it kills eco systems , sheds micro plastics , and contains harmful chemicals and heavy metals that can be absorbed by human skin or ingested by children or animals.

oh and avoid that it always always looks like plastic grass up close I assume?

Get a grip. Your summer holiday abroad causes more carbon than a plastic lawn 🙄

Monty36 · 30/06/2026 13:58

Dreadful invention. Plastic grass. You know it isn’t right OP.

Ionlymakejokestodistractmyself · 30/06/2026 13:58

Do you already regret it?

My cousin has one, put in about 10 years ago just as they were becoming "the thing". It's just as well for them as they've since become immobile so mowing would be very difficult.

It is good to be able to let DC play out in all weathers and it doesn't get trashed. Aside from that I can't see any plus points. They don't look good, don't feel good, don't do good.

Imlyingandthatsthetruth · 30/06/2026 13:58

So many questions... but so few answers.

It sounds lovely, and nicer than my garden that has real grass and is infact a bit shite (see my post a little above). Just recently there was a thread slating my sister's dining table, and it looks lovely in reality with tasteful colourful decor and lots of stylish accessories. This forum is known to be very opinionated, take it with a pinch of salt. Enjoy your garden, honestly I am just grateful to have the outdoor space, as a lot don't.

Taking a flight to an overseas holiday destination causes significantly more carbon to be released into the atmosphere than a plastic lawn. I’m sure plenty of the moaners on this thread have flown abroad at least once over the last year 🙄

I'd probably do that now but they were ridiculously expensive when we had ours installed 10+ years ago.

I think they are horrible and I haven't flown for around 40 years.

I love mine😊

By the way, I also have a composite door, composite decking, and UPVC window frames. Just so you know 😂

Mumwithagreenhouse · 30/06/2026 14:04

Well, as a disabled gardener, having a lawn to mow is killing me and taking away what precious little physical ability I have, that I could be spending on gardening so I’m desperate for one! So my question is, what is the size of your lawn and how much did it cost including fitting, please?
