As title.

If you're going to raise climate issues please make sure you have your facts right before you post. There is a lot of incorrect PR and social media comment about plastic turf going around at the moment.

I love mine😊

By the way, I also have a composite door, composite decking, and UPVC window frames. Just so you know 😂

What has that got to do with plastic grass ?

knitnerd90 · 30/06/2026 14:04

If you just want something lower maintenance then there’s quite a few alternatives depending on your garden space.

Wexone · 30/06/2026 14:04

ABitFab · 30/06/2026 13:05

Don't care if they are ugly or get hot I don't want to mow yards or go gardening!!

Pave it get a robot mower loads of other options to choose from

Marmalademorning · 30/06/2026 14:05

godmum56 · 30/06/2026 14:02

I think they are horrible and I haven't flown for around 40 years.

Well I love my plastic lawn, and I don’t care that it gives you hurty feelings. Sorry!

Funderthighs · 30/06/2026 14:05

We put one down in our previous house after a 5 year struggle to grow a lawn. It was the best thing we ever did. It didn’t devalue the house when we sold and it didn’t put off buyers. New house has a nice lawn so we’re happy with that too. 😀

Dreadful invention. Plastic grass. You know it isn’t right OP.

What about those of us who’re disabled? It’s genius when it comes to saving mowing, especially in the summer. Saying “it isn’t right” without thinking of how it could help someone, shows a distinct lack of intelligence on your part.

PullingOutHair123 · 30/06/2026 14:06

Awful stuff. And yes, you CAN tell it is fake.

sanityisamyth · 30/06/2026 14:09

Did you start this thread just to cause an argument?!

LondonLass2026 · 30/06/2026 14:09

What is there to ask? So dull.

Whether or not you're disabled doesn't omit you from the environmental consequences of fake grass. You've chosen it for reasons that clearly work for you, rather than paying someone for a fortnightly mow, but that's not a neutral in environmental terms.

So dull, but clearly not dull enough for you to take the time to click and comment 😂

Safarisagoody · 30/06/2026 13:17

Isn’t ask me anything also supposed to include and I shall answer..

I think the MN rules still allow me to go out and get some lunch.

🤣

Yeah, and you've obviously read & inwardly digested the advertising from the manufacturers of plastic grass yourself - and fallen hook, line and sinker for it.🙄

What's better for the planet: some plastic, or some soil with plants growing in it? Answers on a postcard...

Wonderknicks · 30/06/2026 14:11

Simple question. Why would anyone go such a thing?

There have already been several low-maintenance suggestions - robot mowers, wild flower meadow, clover lawns, if you cannot manage that, then use paving stones.

There is no excuse for killing chunks of micro-biome/living soil and flushing microplastics and chemicals into the groundwater.

And yes, it is worse than your annual holiday, and they do look shit.

Loads of houses near me have them. They don't all stink, a lot of them do, but not all of them. They do all look shit; it gives a sort of cheap, tacky try-hard vibe to me, even the expensive ones.

There’s no excuse. Get gravel or paving instead. Not plastic shite that looks nothing like grass anyway.

Do you fly abroad? I’m sure you’ll claim you don’t. And even if you don’t, I’ll bet my house that some of the fake grass haters on this thread do - at least once a year!

Safarisagoody · 30/06/2026 12:46

lol, you want us not to refer to the heavy carbon footprint, the fact it takes about 15 years to degrade, usually in landfill, the fact it kills eco systems , sheds micro plastics , and contains harmful chemicals and heavy metals that can be absorbed by human skin or ingested by children or animals.

oh and avoid that it always always looks like plastic grass up close I assume?

I did not ask you not to refer to the carbon footprint, just to be correct about what you say.

Your last point is incorrect. You would have to touch ours to realise.

I would echo the very first post and just ask "why?". I can't think of any line of reasoning that would lead me to this conclusion, so I am curious as to your rationale and reasoning?

centaury · 30/06/2026 14:12

As far incorrect PR goes, it's whatever you've eaten up to think there can be any good reason to do this.

Change the expectations of your garden. A garden does not need to have a large green square in the middle.

Take up the grass, put down gravel. Or replace the grass with Clover, or Thyme, or other options. None of which need mowing. There are loads of options depending on what is wanted from the garden, the size of the garden, your circumstances etc.

You don't need to cover it in bloody plastic.

SilenceInside · 30/06/2026 14:14

Just thought of another question, does it smell plasticky particularly in the 35 plus degree heat? Assuming you are in the UK and in an area where there were the recent Red heat warnings.

StrictlyCoffee · 30/06/2026 14:14

If you can’t be arsed with garden maintenance why didn’t you buy a flat?

I truly despise fake grass and judge people who have it.
