As title.

If you're going to raise climate issues please make sure you have your facts right before you post. There is a lot of incorrect PR and social media comment about plastic turf going around at the moment.

Do you like it?

How much was it?

What maintenance do you need to do for it?

Does it affect property price?

As long as you're happy that's fine. It's not to my taste but I only have patio garden and terrace anyway as no space for grass.

RudolphTheReindeer · 30/06/2026 13:24

Are you preprared for the hate? We have it too. I dont have time to maintain a lawn, my front one is literally wild, although I prefer to call it wildlife friendly. I plant lots of plants for birds, bees, insects instead. Always make sure the bird and bee baths/watering stations are topped up. I don't ever fly anywhere, recycle, am careful not to buy fast fashion or unneeded things etc. we can't all be perfect in every way.

lol, you want us not to refer to the heavy carbon footprint, the fact it takes about 15 years to degrade, usually in landfill, the fact it kills eco systems , sheds micro plastics , and contains harmful chemicals and heavy metals that can be absorbed by human skin or ingested by children or animals.

oh and avoid that it always always looks like plastic grass up close I assume?

Plus increasing the urban heat island effect, making heatwaves much more unpleasant.

What will you do about the accumulation of natural material on top eg leaves and stuff? I remember my son’s nursery had some fake grass in a shady area of heavy traffic and they hated it because it needed to be vacuumed every day!

Why would anyone vacuum leaves up unless they're having an autumn garden tidy? Weird.

YouHaveAnArse · 30/06/2026 13:27

Are you prepared to offer a reduction to buyers when you sell your house to cover the cost of removal? I would have 100% asked for this if ours had it.

Pokemum24 · 30/06/2026 13:03

Do you hate nature?

Ah that was going to be my question 😅

Bananalanacake · 30/06/2026 13:29

What happens when it rains, does the rain soak into the plastic grass.

PussyGaylore · 30/06/2026 13:30

Why would you do that? There are so many negatives. If you can’t be arsed to mow a lawn or provide a habitat for other living things, there’s always flagstones . . .

PassOnThat · 30/06/2026 13:31

Do you have kids? How do you intend to keep them cool during heatwaves?

We have a tiny, crappy square of lawn that looks awful, but then we put the paddling pool out on it during hot weather and it turns into a complete mud bath and the kids are so happy splashing in the pool and rolling in the mud like little pigs. It's the only thing they want to do when it's really hot. And then I remember why I absolutely refuse to get rid of the grass or our two trees which are slowly pushing out our garden wall. We'd fry without them (city, small house, very little green shade around us).

Get microclover if you like the appearance of grass but not the maintenance. It has a low growing height, so it doesn't need mowing half as often as grass (or at all if you're not bothered about it being ultra neat), it doesn't stink, it's good for the soil and very bee-friendly.

Or plant a wild flower meadow.

Jellylasagnafortwo · 30/06/2026 13:31

Do you wear crocs?

ChasingRainbow5 · 30/06/2026 13:32

In the absence of the OP actually answering any questions it might have been a cost thing. I recently put down real turf (had previously been gravel) and was surprised that it would have been much cheaper to go fake.

So what made you stop having made such a good start?

OriginalSkang · 30/06/2026 13:33

What kind of questions were you actually expecting?

LaliqueSaltGrinder · 30/06/2026 13:34

Why did you choose artificial plastic over living and breathing plants? And does it not bother you that people are judging you sideways for your lack of taste?

Moveoverdarlin · 30/06/2026 13:35

Are you going to add a hot tub? And a Live, Laugh, Love sign? And get a bar built with Stella on tap? Have you got your England flags up yet?

Iocanepowder · 30/06/2026 13:36

We have artificial grass and some of these questions are hilarious.

MajorProcrastination · 30/06/2026 13:37

Ah, the classic rage bait, a classic mumsnet genre.

janeandmarysmum · 30/06/2026 13:37

My next door neighbour has fence to fence fake grass. It looks awful. But at least we don't get many weeds coming over from their garden.

catslovehairties · 30/06/2026 13:37

Are you coming back to the thread or are you just shit stirring?

CointreauVersial · 30/06/2026 13:37

LOL - there are a couple of newly-renovated cottages near us, and the developer laid some absolutely foul fake grass in front of both of them.

I was very amused to see that both "lawns" have since sprouted weeds all over (presumably some sort of tough horsetail or similar, plus inadequate weed-blocking underneath) - it looks doubly dreadful, and a bit of a lose-lose all round because it now needs treating/cutting.😆

Empress13 · 30/06/2026 13:38

Are you worried about how awful it will look especially when it gets dirty ? Do you have pets or cats nearby?

Lentilcakes · 30/06/2026 13:39

Can’t bear them & would never have one! I’d rather have paving and pots.

NoCommentingFromNowOn · 30/06/2026 13:39

Helllloooooooooooooooooo

OP come back! We love you really!!!!!!!!!!!!

OneBusyFinch · 30/06/2026 13:41

Dontwearmysocks · 30/06/2026 12:41

Why?

This! Do you hate wildlife and nature?
