I'll tell you what I think.
I'm sick of people using niche terms on this site that most people in real life have never even heard of!

We've had DINK and now peaking.🙄
You people should learn to use language in your posts that the majority use and understand.

Double income no kids.
I also know what peaking means.

Maybe you need to get out there a bit more...

I understood. It's shorthand. Welcome to the internet.

Are you taking the piss? 🤔

Peak trans is such a well used term. 🙄

Did she have blue hair and did you have trouble remembering to use they/them?

DINK is a fairly standard acronym isn't it? Definitely not a MN thing.

Excellent post! Only last week a poster was referring to her BD - we all had a guess, ranging from Belly Dancer to Beige Daisy, but she meant ‘Baby Dad’ which is her child’s father! We got there in the end …

Sunquest · 13/04/2024 18:31

Amen to that.

Seriously? Dinkies were around in the 90s

And "peak oil" has been a term longer than terf

Springtime43 · 13/04/2024 18:38

And I thought ‘Peak Trans’ was something relating to public transport in Derbyshire!

I try to avoid all the anti trans stuff on MN. If I knew what peaked meant I would have hidden this thread too.

I had pink hair at the time.
She looked like a very standard butch lesbian and was upset every time someone referred to her as she.

I found it difficult at first to use they/them as she was 'she' when we first met but I soon learned as she used to go ballistic if I got it wrong

Sorry how is it anti trans to talk about a former relationship from my POV?

Whats Non Binary???🫣

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 13/04/2024 18:46

Was she 'non-binary' when you started dating her, OP? I'm guessing maybe not, as you say she went by 'she' at that point. If she had already been saying she was NB, and had already been going by 'they', would that have put you off dating her in the first place?

Language moves and evolves.

Get over it. Move on in. Build a bridge.

Mrsjayy · 13/04/2024 18:48

How long was the relationship it must have been frightening trying not to say the wrong thing?

Whats Non Binary???🫣

Someone Usually a woman who doesn't think she's a woman OR a man.

Seems unusual for a man to be NB, they are more likely to pretend they're women.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 13/04/2024 18:50

Whats Non Binary???🫣

It's a term to describe someone who either considers themselves to be somehow neither male nor female, or who prefers not to be called a woman or a man on the grounds that they feel they neither fit all the stereotypical masculine traits nor all of the female ones, but rather some of each (i.e. like most humans).

DINK? As in dual income no kids? I think that was coined in the 1980s... hardly new. 'Peaking' is a v common term, especially on the FWR board. You could have googled.

When we first met and became friendly she was a woman, as time went on she started to move towards being NB.

By the time we started dating she was NB and it didn't put me off.

I didn't know much about it. I thought it was relatively harmless and wouldn't make a difference in our relationship.

Back then if she said she was NB from the day I met her I wouldn't have been put off, no.

This was almost 10 years ago. For context.

There wasn't as much social media coverage about it back then, I didn't really understand it.

Isn't this like saying "I dated a man and it put me off men, AMA". One person isn't representative of everyone within a certain category.

DINK has been around as a term in common language since the 1980s…it came on the back of YUPPIES…do we need to explain that to you too? (Young Upwardlymobile Professional Person) for the avoidance of doubt

Together around 2 years.

Once we started a relationship it was a few months before the first big argument about it. Because I put something on Facebook about being a lesbian.

She came to my house crying and wouldn't tell me what was wrong. I thought something terrible had happened but she told me I'd totally undermined her by saying in public I was a lesbian. She said she wasn't a woman so how could I be a lesbian?

I think I said something like 'I'm pretty sure the sex we have is quite lesbian' and she screamed a load of abuse at me and left the house.

I relented. Took down the post and admitted I was not a lesbian :(
