Long time lurker but have NC for this.

I run an LGBT Pride event. I want to deal with some of the nonsense theories that we welcome pedophiles or have banned lesbians.

Ask me anything. (Disclaimer: I won't answer anything specific that might out me.)

As a lesbian woman your responses are EXACTLY why I don't attend pride events and I cring at the rainbow flag.

So, yeah, great job 👍

Circumferences · 20/12/2023 22:46

I think that women's safe spaces should be protected and only open to women.

I have already stated that trans women are women, so I don't need to specify here that this includes trans women.

And herein lies the problem at the heart of the ideological mantra "TWAW"..... Thank you people running Pride.
Thank you very much 🌈🌈

LGBnoT · 20/12/2023 22:48

lgbtpride · 20/12/2023 22:31

I've said already that I believe trans women are women and trans men are men. I'm here to answer questions about Pride, not to go down another pointless rabbit hole to suit people's arguments.

So then how does being gay and lesbian fit in?

If people with penises can be lesbians... Arent you erasing lesbianism?

Isn't the first rule of being a lesbian that you don't like penises??

I honestly don't understand how the trans ideology and lesbians and gays can work.

It's literally the opposite of each other.

lgbtpride · 20/12/2023 22:48

Thanks to the genuine posters tonight. I will revisit tomorrow to answer any more genuine questions.

Remember, Pride volunteers are just your neighbours trying to do their best. Don't hate on us for trying to give back.

Night 👋🏽

So people questioning the movement aren't genuine.

So only people who blindly follow the 'T' and ignore everything else are genuine?

Dictatorship or what??

Kernackered · 20/12/2023 22:51

cabbageking · 20/12/2023 20:40

Which pride are you running so I can avoid it?

Quite. Wouldn't want to "take up their space"

LGBnoT · 20/12/2023 22:52

I just wnat you to know that people like you are making lesbians like me feel ASHAMED of my sexuality.

This whole queer/rainbow/trans movement has made me regress in my pride.

I do not feel PROUD about this rainbow movements behaviour.

I feel embarrassed and worried about our gay kids.

LGBnoT · 20/12/2023 22:53

LGB has been taken over by straight, perverted males.

I think that women's safe spaces should be protected and only open to women.

I have already stated that trans women are women, so I don't need to specify here that this includes trans women.

But this means NO safe spaces for women, @lgbtpride. Women’s safe spaces should be single sex not single gender, otherwise they are simply not safe.

Of course there should be gender neutral safe spaces too - changing rooms, prisons, hospital wards, domestic violence and rape crisis centres - but a woman, an adult human female, who has been raped, for example, should not have to accept a penis-haver in her counselling sessions if this will retraumatise her all over again. She should be able to access single sex provision, without being told to reframe her trauma, or being called a bigot or TERF. But if you are raped in Edinburgh, the only reason that a woman (biologically female) can access such services is because JK Rowling has set it up. Edinburgh Rape Crisis will not even provide one, single single-sex group for traumatised women.

Saying trans women are women gives predatory men carte blanche to access women’s safe spaces.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 20/12/2023 23:01

have already stated that trans women are women

@lgbtpride can you define what a "trans woman" is? How do you become one?

Same here.

So you're welcome if you're straight but in fetish gear.
You might not be welcome if you're straight but not in fetish gear.
You can't focus on politics because that = hate.
It's a safe space for women and TWAW and if you don't believe that you're not welcome.
If you question anything you're not genuine.
Be nice! Be kind! Be nice! Be kind!

Pride actually used to mean something.

And all those statistics about Pride being important because homophobia is still rife is such a cop out. I am a lesbian and let me tell you all Pride does is make me feel utterly embarrassed that any aspect of my identity is in any way linked to that nonsense. I don't want to be equated with fetishes or kinks. I don't want people to see men in latex puppy gear and think that we champion that nonsense. Those degenerates have nothing to do with us.

I've seen photos/videos of Pride marches of men dressed as dogs, in gimp masks, chained up. Men carrying bats and placards threatening to kill and maim GC women.

It stopped being Pride a long time ago.

LGBnoT · 20/12/2023 23:03

If trans women are women how do you also belive women should have safe spaces? Can you explain how that works please?
Especially with self ID?

I mean we could start a lesbian pride event but we all know what would happen there....

I'm interested to know WHY you're inclusive of kink/fetish when it's not actually a sexuality and many many straight people are involved with kink/fet "ish and so co opt the whole point of pride which is to allow people who are same sex attracted have the same legitimacy as straight people?

I don't understand where kink fits into this?

jammysocks · 20/12/2023 23:08

With regards to womem only spaces and As a mother and a hijabi Muslim. I have left bathrooms with trans women in. I can't even readjust my hijab in the loo without worrying there is a man there or if my kids are OK in the loo. I'm not saying all trans women are a threat. But rather it's a huge risk and its so easy to use womens spaces and claim to be a woman yet have sinister intentions.

I think pride has gone from a protest to theatrical display and actually does the opposite to its original intentions.

@PencilsInSpace

'T is for Trash'
Trans Dick is Dick
Get the L Out
LGB not TQ

etc

Not quite on the level of kill all terfs is it

DropDeadFreida · 20/12/2023 23:13

@LGBnoT we're not allowed, we're only women after all, we don't even get to name ourselves anymore. The only marginalised group on the planet where our oppressors have weaponised our oppression and turned it against us to make themselves the victims.

The only thing the vast, vast majority of LGB people want is to live normal, ordinary lives. This current nonsense has robbed us of that. We were so close to just being utterly ordinary and like everyone else, but once again we have become synonymous with degeneracy.

jammysocks · 20/12/2023 23:14

Even pride is aimed at not upsetting men. It's quite a joke really.

Meadowgrasses · 20/12/2023 23:14

OP, great to know that you don’t think women are entitled to any single sex spaces. Thanks for that. [that’s in a sarcastic tone, just for clarity]. why should women be respectful etc when the favour isn’t returned? Why can’t you respect that some women don’t want to share spaces with males? What do you think a woman is if it isn’t an adult human female - just a set of stereotypes? What do you think the difference between ‘transwomen’ and women is. You clearly know there is a difference because you expect women to be respectful and not take the ‘transwomen’s spaces.

Carpediemmakeitcount · 20/12/2023 23:18

If trans women are women would the op date a trans woman because she is a lesbian and they are women. Her responses are more for trans rights. When she responded to the poster about what placards of hate she removed or other volunteers removed the hate was directed to trans women. I have a feeling something is not right.

There is a saying don't give it attention or an audience the more you listen the worse it gets.

I agree. They don't care about true intersectionality. They don't even know what it means.

This new movement is utterly sexist, racist and classist at its core. Who cares about the needs of women who practice religions where they cannot share spaces with men? Who cares about vulnerable women who need dedicated support or refuge? Who cares about women's right to their own identity, language and self-expression?

jammysocks · 20/12/2023 23:21

Women have always been at the bottom of the barrel in social constructs. So much to the point we have gone backwards and need to constantly ask people what defines a woman. No one asks what defines a man...

What bothers me the most about this current movement is the attempts to force people into submission.

I have never before in my life had any group/movement/individual try and force me to align to their belief system. Be that a religion, political party etc. There has always been an element of healthy debate at best or terse words at worst, but never this level of just utter batshittery.

My mind refuses to bend. I cannot force myself to believe. I cannot lie to myself. I cannot ignore reality. So what's to become of me? OP: what do you suggest I do?

Well in certain circles there are now two types of human. Men and non-men. Oh how far we have come(!)

What do you feel about the view that people don't care about another's sexuality and therefore have no prejudice against sexuality.
Following on from this a view may be that pride draws attention to sexuality ... And genuinely a lot of people feel it's normal to be gay why have pride

Absolutely this, most people don't generally care or need to celebrate being heterosexual
