Long time lurker but have NC for this.

I run an LGBT Pride event. I want to deal with some of the nonsense theories that we welcome pedophiles or have banned lesbians.

Ask me anything. (Disclaimer: I won't answer anything specific that might out me.)

@HermioneWeasley Intersex genital 'correction' surgery still happens in a majority of countries and children are left scarred for life without their consent. Just one of many issues on which Intersex groups campaign at Pride.

Oh the irony…

This what trans rights groups are campaigning for. NO child can consent to treatment that affects their future sexual function.

MadeOfAllWork · 20/12/2023 23:45

What I notice is that the fetish people are almost always men. Pride does se male heavy.

LardyCakeAgain · 20/12/2023 23:45

CandyLeBonBon · 20/12/2023 23:07

I'm interested to know WHY you're inclusive of kink/fetish when it's not actually a sexuality and many many straight people are involved with kink/fet "ish and so co opt the whole point of pride which is to allow people who are same sex attracted have the same legitimacy as straight people?

I don't understand where kink fits into this?

They won't be back, I've asked questions on this several times and been ignored. Maybe OP's self-identifying as a 57yo lesbian and didn't get enough traction with the social media shitstorm they intended to with this thread - it's the first week of the school holidays here.

CherryJones1 · 20/12/2023 23:49

But trans women are not women.

And whilst people like yourself continue to deny literal scientific facts , how can (most) normal thinking people accept Pride as something to be celebrated?

Add in that you openly welcome people with kinks and fetishes (used to be just called 'perverts' back in the day but hey ho,we move!') and on top of that you say you're family friendly ... can you not even try and understand why a lot of people find this all just baffling?

I think you do women an absolute disservice. Why label yourself as a 'cis' woman? You're just a woman aren't you?

All you're doing here is kowtowing to men - yet these men have decided they're done with being men and fancy the accoutrements of women for a change

CherryJones1 · 20/12/2023 23:51

@DropDeadFreida '' My mind refuses to bend. I cannot force myself to believe. I cannot lie to myself. I cannot ignore reality. ''

Yes this. Totally agree.

WaitingForMojo · 21/12/2023 00:00

Do you experience the level of transphobia we see on mumsnet in everyday life, or is this just where the terfs gather?

Say that to a man I dare you. I guess it's easy picking on the weaker sex.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 21/12/2023 00:15

have never before in my life had any group/movement/individual try and force me to align to their belief system. Be that a religion, political party etc. There has always been an element of healthy debate at best or terse words at worst, but never this level of just utter batshittery.

My mind refuses to bend. I cannot force myself to believe. I cannot lie to myself. I cannot ignore reality. So what's to become of me? OP: what do you suggest I do?

Great question.

WaitingForMojo · 21/12/2023 00:27

I guess the easiest thing of all is picking on the most vulnerable minority.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 21/12/2023 00:32

Males who identify as "lesbians" aren't actually "the most vulnerable" in society.

WitchWitchWitch1 · 21/12/2023 00:39

OP what are your thoughts about young women who have had their healthy breasts cut off, had unnecessary hysterectomies, taken testosterone, resulting in permanent damage to their health, all in an attempt to look like a man, but eventually realise they are lesbian and that they were sold a lie because it's not possible to change sex, and that trans men are women? Would you welcome them at your Pride?

Carpediemmakeitcount · 21/12/2023 00:44

WaitingForMojo · 21/12/2023 00:27

Women are not your enemy all we want is to feel safe that's it. We are all entitled to that not all women want men around them for all sorts of reasons fear/trauma etc and it makes no difference to them if they become trans. You will never hear of a trans man pleading his case to a judge for him to go to a male prison because he knows what will happen to him.

Carpediemmakeitcount · 21/12/2023 00:50

You will never see a trans man in the 100 meter race racing against bio men he knows he will lose. You will see trans women competing in all women's sports and winning the majority of the time but the other way round trans men competing against bio men no chance they will lose.

EmpressaurusOfCats · 21/12/2023 01:55

And this, everyone, is why we need the LGB Alliance.

I fail to see how that answers any of the questions I asked

id also query the evidence that it happens in the majority of countries as a standard practice. If it did, you wouldn’t see so many males with DSDs dominating women’s sports.

I think that women's safe spaces should be protected and only open to women.

I have already stated that trans women are women, so I don't need to specify here that this includes trans women.

Yikes.

To me, this is equivalent to saying that female rape survivors who need single sex support and female athletes who want to compete fairly just need to believe harder that this male bodied person with a penis is a woman and then there wouldn't be a problem.

This is why people are losing support for your movement.

CandyLeBonBon · 21/12/2023 07:26

MadeOfAllWork · 20/12/2023 23:45

Yep. I'm bisexual but stopped going years ago as it just became a display of barely concealed porn-sick men legally parading their fetish in front of others.

I wanted my children to be comfortable knowing that if they were ever to discover they were same sex attracted that they would feel supported and safe to do so and that same sex attraction is not something to be ashamed of, but after constant exposure to the wall to wall ball-gags, and bum-less gimp suits and overtly sexualised behaviour in public, I came to the conclusion that Pride was nothing to do with same sex attraction any more, and everything to do with non consensual enforcement of others' sexual fetishes. Pride lost its way a long time ago.

EmpressaurusOfCats · 21/12/2023 07:38

At the last Pride I went to, a young woman was on stage. She told everyone how she’d grown up forced to fit in with feminine stereotypes instead of getting to wear trousers & play sports like her brothers, & how disturbed she’d been to realise she was attracted to other girls.

So… at university did she realise that sex-role stereotypes were misogynist crap? No she didn’t. She came out as nonbinary, is crowdfunding for a mastectomy & now tells her story to school kids.

Almost everyone else was cheering & clapping. I was thinking, how the hell did we get to this stage?

lordloveadog · 21/12/2023 08:24

Do you understand that for women, it's a refusal to ever have sex with men that has got lesbians abused for centuries? Men don't find the idea of lesbian sex disgusting. The homophobia comes from hatred of female independence.

But you agree. You don't want women who only have sex with other women to feel proud of their sexuality at your pride. Because you think they should be inclusive of males.

throwawayimplantchat · 21/12/2023 08:37

This is a genuine question OP, I promise, not a gotcha. But I'm really keen to know - if trans women are women and you are a lesbian, would you honestly date a trans woman who hadn't had surgery?

LardyCakeAgain · 21/12/2023 09:54

I'm still waiting to hear why fetishists are more welcome at this pride event than the children of same sex couples, who still need support against homophobia and exclusion in certain parts of society.

I wouldn't because it's not my thing, same as I wouldn't date a skinny woman as I don't find attractive. One of my colleagues is a trans woman married to a lesbian. The idea this can't happen is for the birds.

The proof of the pudding is in the eating. They're a tiny group whose events have never got more than 300 people at a stretch.

No I don't. Mumsnet is a cesspit of transphobia sadly.
