Long time lurker but have NC for this.

I run an LGBT Pride event. I want to deal with some of the nonsense theories that we welcome pedophiles or have banned lesbians.

Ask me anything. (Disclaimer: I won't answer anything specific that might out me.)

@ginasevern @Baldieheid

Very good 👍 posts

I am 💯 per cent in agreement with both of you,

You've articulate it spot on
what i was thinking 🤔 and probably what other people think too,

I think 🤔 Pride has turned into a openly loud and proud fetishism and kink festival celebration

Why not have two types of festivals one the orginal idea grassroots Pride festivals used to be,

And the other loud and proud openly kinks and fetishism festival,
could be held elsewhere and discourage families with young children not allowed to attend,
as cause of grown up themes on display,

Only young people of 16yrs, or 17 & 18 yrs and adults attend type of thing,

Could that work in some way? 🤔

be adapted to work of sorts not sure?

I don't see why it couldn't be adapted to work. I'm actually quite surprised there isn't already a fetish/kink festival. Over eighteen's only maybe? I'm sure there would be loads of stall holders eager to get involved!

The original Pride event should be just that, to celebrate, acknowledge and educate around LBGT rights and citizens. Otherwise it all becomes a bit meaningless and the statements blurred.

PencilsInSpace · 31/12/2023 19:03

There are already fetish/kink festivals. In the UK at least they are not held on the public street and are over 18 only.

If the fetish aspects of pride were separated from the family friendly stuff (which absolutely needs doing) then they would get more extreme. It would need to be over 18s only, not 16-17 y/o who are still minors.

And obviously it should not be held on the street. The general public has not consented to being NPCs in your kink performance.

It's been the latter for a long time. In fact even the original pride many did not want to be heteronormative and get married etc. Many gay people were proud of promiscuity and sex, its always been like that. The ones who think legalising gay marriage is trying to make gay people confirm to straight lifestyles and not be extreme sexually, some have seen this as repression so it is entirely inaccurate to say pride has historically been about fighting to be normal ie live like a straight person. It was a celebration of queerness too.

I'm not sure how far you're going back, but I'm sure you're not speaking for the majority of the LGB community when it comes to pride in promiscuity and sex. None of the lesbians I know are promiscuous (and the jokes about lesbians turning up on dates in U-hauls would indicate promiscuity isn't stereotypical for them). I know a couple of gay men who sleep around, but I know a far greater number of men who are in settled relationships. To call settled relationships heteronormative and repressive is very closed-minded.

Just in case the OP does come back.
Id like to know why "Pride" finds it acceptable to photoshop banners from Gay Pride in order to insert Trans rights placards.

This is the original image.
How should gay people respond to their history being rewritten in order to include another group?

It’s an excellent question but I bet the OP won’t be back.

Pistachiovillian · 24/04/2024 13:26

I have noted that the OP never came back. I love pride, but I do not feel welcome or accepted at it as a lesbian who only dates women.

Verv · 24/04/2024 14:55

Me either.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 25/04/2024 14:24

That photoshopping to insert the priorities of a different group 40 odd years later really was outrageous.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 25/04/2024 16:39

That is unconscionable! I am utterly appalled.
