Long time lurker but have NC for this.

I run an LGBT Pride event. I want to deal with some of the nonsense theories that we welcome pedophiles or have banned lesbians.

Ask me anything. (Disclaimer: I won't answer anything specific that might out me.)

What I notice is that the fetish people are almost always men. Pride does se male heavy.

Haha you should see the leatherwomen and BDSM girls at Pride!

Do you understand that for women, it's a refusal to ever have sex with men that has got lesbians abused for centuries? Men don't find the idea of lesbian sex disgusting. The homophobia comes from hatred of female independence.

But you agree. You don't want women who only have sex with other women to feel proud of their sexuality at your pride. Because you think they should be inclusive of males.

I didn't say that. Don't misrepresent me.

Do you experience the level of transphobia we see on mumsnet in everyday life, or is this just where the terfs gather?

We gather in person quite a lot too.
Women-only parties, lunches, walks, bike rides. We have networks with 1000s of women in them, all vetted.
Drop the topic of Scottish rapists (only men can rape, as per British law) in to random chats at the school gates and pffft we have another one join us.
Call us transphobic bigots, fill your probably sized 10 boots. We do not care one iota anymore.

There are more of us than you know.

AccidentallyWesAnderson · 21/12/2023 11:46

Transphobia is now denying transwomen are women. Which is a fact for those who live in the real world. So it's really meaningless now.

MargotBamborough · 21/12/2023 11:50

lgbtpride · 21/12/2023 11:40

No I don't. Mumsnet is a cesspit of transphobia sadly.

I'm afraid I think your movement is a cesspit of misogyny.

Here's a question for you.

Do you ever worry that statements such as "trans women are women" used to justify removing women's access to single sex support and care, male rapists being put in women's prisons or male athletes competing in women's sports might cause increased anti LGBT sentiment in the UK?

lordloveadog · 21/12/2023 11:51

So women who only have sex with other females (like you yourself) are ok at pride as long as they don't make a thing of their homosexuality? No banners, no pride in their male-excluding sexuality?

lgbtpride · 21/12/2023 11:52

@lordloveadog Of course they're welcome with their banners. Just not offensive, exclusionary messages. Quite simple - and all the lesbians at our Pride manage quite well!

Women are not your enemy all we want is to feel safe that's it. We are all entitled to that not all women want men around them for all sorts of reasons fear/trauma etc and it makes no difference to them if they become trans. You will never hear of a trans man pleading his case to a judge for him to go to a male prison because he knows what will happen to him.

I’m a woman. Don’t try to speak for all women. You are a strange, prejudiced minority.

That is really good to hear. I’ve only encountered one TERF in real life. It’s a pity they’re allowed a platform.

WaitingForMojo · 21/12/2023 11:53

Women who want their safety, dignity and rights to be respected are not in the minority, nor are they prejudiced or strange for wanting those things.

I’m not trans. That’s an assumption. I’m a cis woman and a lesbian.

WaitingForMojo · 21/12/2023 11:56

MargotBamborough · 21/12/2023 11:55

Women who want their safety, dignity and rights to be respected are not in the minority, nor are they prejudiced or strange for wanting those things.

Women who mistakenly think that abusing trans people achieves that are both prejudiced and strange. We all want those things. Including all women.

WaitingForMojo · 21/12/2023 11:57

It’s a shame your thread has been hijacked, OP. Sadly, probably inevitable here.

AccidentallyWesAnderson · 21/12/2023 11:57

What abuse of trans people? Do you have any examples?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 21/12/2023 11:59

And for most of us women, our privacy and dignity requires the absence of all male people at some times.

lgbtpride · 21/12/2023 11:59

@WaitingForMojo I knew it would be. Inevitable. But it was worth a try and there were SOME thoughtful questions. And thank YOU for bucking the trend too. ❤️

The post you were replying to said the following:

"Women are not your enemy all we want is to feel safe that's it. You will never hear of a trans man pleading his case to a judge for him to go to a male prison because he knows what will happen to him."

There is absolutely nothing here to indicate that this poster is abusive towards trans people.

Wanting women's spaces to be for women only is not abusing trans people, neither is it a minority view.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 21/12/2023 12:00

It's not "AMA except for questions I don't want to answer", is it?

WaitingForMojo · 21/12/2023 12:03

It’s not especially that we as members of the LGBT community don’t want to answer the questions. Rather, that it’s pointless here, as the answers aren’t taken on board. They’re asked with an agenda. Not open to actual discussion.

Sex isn’t as binary as the TERF movement think. It really isn’t. But that seems to be an unpalatable fact here.

MargotBamborough · 21/12/2023 12:04

I would really appreciate an answer to my question about whether the OP ever worries that this dogmatic insistence that trans women are women and should be included in all women's spaces, despite the fact that most of the public disagrees with this, might result in increased intolerance of the LGBT community as a whole.

MargotBamborough · 21/12/2023 12:04

"Members of the LGBT community" who don't agree with you have asked questions here on this thread.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 21/12/2023 12:05

Sex is binary. Disorders of sex development happen within this binary. There are only two sexes.

lgbtpride · 21/12/2023 12:06

@MargotBamborough Sorry that I missed your question. First, there is no evidence I've seen that this is happening. Second, even if it was, that doesn't mean that the approach should change. After all, until very recently a majority of the public wanted reinstatement of hanging. Public opinion doesn't make something right.
