Following on from our epic first thread I had a breast reduction

We are a group of ladies who have breast reductions for a number of reasons and are all at different stages of recovery.

I had a breast reduction AMA | Mumsnet

I had a breast reduction two weeks ago. I’ve gone from a 34GG/H to a 34D. Crack on with any questions!

Also Q regarding flying! I’ve been invited away! Itll be 13 weeks post op is it ok to fly long haul then !?

Evening, I have 3 days to go and starting to panic a bit, I've never had a general before, I keep having realistic dreams when I actually sleep that they've been done and insert whatever went wrong here. Anyway, everything is ready to pack for my night away I think, just 2 days left at work to get through. Don't know why I'm rambling, sleep is being evasive.

It’s the only general aesthetic I’ve ever had and I’m in my early 50s. It’s really nice. Also, if you go private (?) they add in loads of other drugs like anti-sickness anti-bruising and stuff. I felt great when I woke up.

You should be fine, I went to Asia with work about 6-7 weeks after mine.

RedWineIsFine · 29/04/2024 10:23

Thanks both, I'm a bit of a control freak, so this is terrifying for me.
I had asked about flying and was told OK for over 5 hours after 8 weeks as I want to go away before the kids go back to school, whether I'm being optimistic or not is to be seen but it'll be 16 weeks by then.

Singletrackmind · 29/04/2024 13:36

@RedWineIsFine you’ve totally got this! I’ve had a few GAs and they are soooo much better now, it’s literally out and then awake again. Think of it like a nice snooze. As @Madagascary said they will include anti nausea meds etc
For me that bit was the least stressful part, the waiting is the thing!
Excited for you 😀- report back & let us know how you go.

I really like my new boobs now … 9 months in, stretchy bra/ crop tops only … and if we ever get a summer there will be no under boob sweat 😂 literally dreams are made of this 😊

Martinisarebetterdirty · 29/04/2024 13:58

Are you still sleeping in a bra @Singletrackmind ? I bought some nipple covers the other week in anticipation of floaty gauzy tops for summer 😂

Singletrackmind · 29/04/2024 14:20

@Martinisarebetterdirty hey lovely, yes I am … I’ve got those cheapo stretchy things that come in a pack of 3 for a tenner from Asda. The joy. I’m used to it now & honestly it seems like a small thing to do to retain the ‘perk’ Nipples though … I’m just letting them be out there 😂😂😂

Martinisarebetterdirty · 29/04/2024 14:36

@Singletrackmind I may have to invest - I quite like sleeping naked but don’t want to loose my perk. I’m not sure I’m ready to have my nipples announce my entrance yet 😂
Can also confirm I’ve had a mammogram since surgery and nothing has collapsed with it AND there was no pain! I used to be in agony.

Heartfullofcheese · 29/04/2024 18:25

I’ve been getting excited about taking multiple small bikini tops on hol. I’ve always had one maybe two costumes and had to wash each day because they are so expensive.
Now I can literally pick up a bikini top in Primark. Plus all the floaty summer dresses. It’s insanely exciting!
@MaHHoosiveStill OST IN Hemel do credit but I don’t think there was a massive deposit. They also did it as day surgery so was a lot cheaper - not me though. DM me if you’d like more details.

Madagascary · 29/04/2024 18:37

Don’t dismiss selling your bras and old swimwear on Vinted. I probably threw too many away and only sold a few.

The other thing you must do before your operation is got a plain white old T-shirt and take your bra off and get someone to draw your boobs on over on top of it on the T-shirt.

Lauraellferg · 29/04/2024 21:37

I went to the OSD in Hemel whilst my surgeon was amazin!! im not sure if I would 100% recommend the hospital the service wasn’t amazing and i personally think i would opt for an overnight stay if I was to have again!

RedWineIsFine · 29/04/2024 21:41

Thank you lovely people, I suspect I'll be a disaster zone tomorrow, but that's my last day of mega boobs so I'm going to be brave (she says). Thanks @Madagascary DH has had a nice time drawing boobs on a white vest, he's also taken me some photos (not impressed with how chunky I am but I'm hoping the after photos at least show a waist under the boobs!). Got a pregnancy pillow, DH has built me a nice little trolley on wheels for all the things in reach post op, and lovely new PJs with buttons. Just got to pack my bag 😬

Heartfullofcheese · 29/04/2024 22:06

See you on the other (small boobed) side @RedWineIsFine 😊
@Lauraellferg I was pretty impressed with OSD! The nurses were lovely.

countrytweed · 30/04/2024 06:30

@RedWineIsFine All the best for today! The GA will be absolutely fine, promise. Enjoy the downtime, and the disappearance of the b00bs ☺️
@Lauraellferg @Heartfullofcheese I was at OSD too (I was in and out same day)... it was a fantastic experience for me, the nurses were fab 👍🏼

CatrinVennastin · 30/04/2024 07:49

@RedWineIsFine good luck for today’s op!

two weeks today that will be me!!!

RedWineIsFine · 30/04/2024 10:18

Ooh sorry today is last big boob day, I am in tomorrow. And trying to stay calm! Thank you everyone.

Madagascary · 30/04/2024 18:50

So excited

Singletrackmind · 30/04/2024 20:06

@RedWineIsFine you really don’t need much. Long charging cable, joggers & a zip up top/ cardigan for the way home, toothbrush. That was it for me. Best thing I did do was make a lovely smoothie in a flask which was perfect when I didn’t really want to eat in the morning but needed some nutrition!
Pillow to go between new boobs & seatbelt for the way home 👍

RedWineIsFine · 01/05/2024 17:55

I was first down this morning so now home as stats and pain OK. So. Glad to be home as super worrier DS starts his GCSEs this week.
Feel a little silly in worrying I've done too much pouring my water in the hospital and cannot work out how to shuffle up in bed to sitting without pushing up on my arms, but in general feel OK painwise, just like I've been wearing a super tight underwiring.

Madagascary · 01/05/2024 18:17

Yes, I always say that it is not really pain more like you’ve put a bra on top of really sore sunburn

RedWineIsFine · 01/05/2024 18:41

When I lift my shirt I can see bruising around the bottom of the bra which fits with what I'm feeling.

Madagascary · 01/05/2024 20:18

What did you say or think when you first came round after the anaesthetic.

Hope that went well by the way.

Have you looked at your profile sideways, even in clothing? It’s just so different and so much less matronly

Madagascary · 02/05/2024 04:26

Also, I just remembered how crossing your arms in front of your chest for the first few weeks was all weird because your chest wasn’t there anymore

countrytweed · 02/05/2024 13:30

Hurray @RedWineIsFine! Glad it's all done and dusted for you. Hope you're able to really take it easy, especially weeks 1 & 2. The bra on bad sunburn lasts a good 4-5 weeks so don't worry if you don't feel it's improving. And good luck on the GCSE front! 🤞🏼

countrytweed · 02/05/2024 13:31

Question on scars.... I'm on month 3 and they're still pretty dark. When realistically can I expect them to really lighten up? (it's not bothering me cos they're painless, just curious)

Note from MNHQ - as this thread has reached its 1,000-post limit, the OP's asked us to put a link to the new thread. Here it is - We've all had breast reductions - happy to help
