Following on from our epic first thread I had a breast reduction

We are a group of ladies who have breast reductions for a number of reasons and are all at different stages of recovery.

I had a breast reduction AMA | Mumsnet

I had a breast reduction two weeks ago. I’ve gone from a 34GG/H to a 34D. Crack on with any questions!

My bmi was 28.5 at the time of the op - I’d lost a bit of weight to prepare, around 7kg. Some of my boobage was definitely still fat. But they’d been gradually growing for years, possibly cos of menopause. I’m well post meno now so hopefully they won’t grow back.
My intention is to lose a bit more weight and generally get fitter, which seems a much easier prospect without the enormous chest bags. Just need the healing to be done.

Madagascary · 20/08/2023 20:12

I asked my guy what it looked like, the stuff he took out, and he said largely fat.

But mine had lots of, oh God, what are they called those things that can fill up and you have to have them aspirated, and they were blue

Madagascary · 20/08/2023 20:14

Do you or find that it’s really nice looking at photos of yourself and not thinking oh God, my tits look huge there

ZZGirl · 20/08/2023 20:15

I'm nearly 8 years post op, happy to lend insight.

ohcrums · 20/08/2023 21:02

Thanks for sharing all

Would I need help a post surgery doing basic things like brushing hair, reaching in the wardrobe, lifting the kettle.

Heartfullofcheese · 20/08/2023 21:09

I could manage the kettle. Hair was a bit tricky for a day or two and anything above my head.

TinkerbellefromYorkshire · 20/08/2023 21:13

Anyone over age 60?
Wish I'd saved for this much earlier. I've always had huge breasts.. even when younger.. I'm a 48J.. but think I'm too old now and gone through loads of surgery ( mainly gynecological) plus gallbladder..
But l have fibromyalgia and osteoarthritis..( previous broken hips and pelvis) .

MorrisZapp · 20/08/2023 21:17

Yay!

MorrisZapp · 20/08/2023 21:39

I'm 51, post meno
Currently 34g
Having surgery on 5th September
Cost is 7,800
I'm in Edinburgh
Excited and nervous!

HoliHormonalTigerLillyTheSecond · 20/08/2023 19:43

What's the likelihood they'll grow back?

Mine have grown back a bit. Still much smaller than before and still firm-ish but if I had spare cash hanging about, I might consider a 2nd op.

I couldn't push or pull for a while. Things like pulling the duvet up, opening a door etc. I had to have help but that very quickly improved.

Not after two days

Madagascary · 20/08/2023 21:57

I’d def not have before menopause. Or if it weight fluctuates a lot

I’ve had a huge amount of gynae and urology procedures. I do think that my endometriosis and adenomyosis contributed to hormone imbalances which made my breasts grow so big.

In my experience I don’t think age is a factor but most of us are middle aged. I’d hazard a guess that most wait until after children/got a bit more spare cash around/wait until boobs hit their waistline. I think if you have a 48inch band then you’d probably have a BMI of over 30 which means most surgeons wouldn’t do it. My local NHS surgery requires a BMI under 25 for a twelve month period before referral.

@goingtotown its not too bad at all. You get covered in tape to protect the stitches and you have to remember not to lift. You learn to do things with t-Rex arms.

Certainly for the first few days at least cause you really don’t want to be doing very much at all. Also things on high shelves etc.

Singletrackmind · 21/08/2023 07:00

@MorrisZapp … getting closer!

StubbleTurnips · 21/08/2023 07:02

I had one done in 2004, at a young 20s age… breastfeed DD1 when we had her a lot of years later. Happy to answer any questions.

Notooserious · 21/08/2023 18:37

So I had mine two months ago - started out well then cellulitis and fat necrosis that exploded very unpleasantly and involved a couple of emergency hospital trips, and now redressing every couple of days. No advice needed particularly, just feeling pretty low - I normally exercise a lot but because I had 3 weeks of antibiotics and have other health stuff I feel awful so not really up to it - and while I’m signed off I’m having to do a 5 hr hospital round trip 2/3 times a week. Nurse reckoned today it will be another 2-3 months for the 20p piece sized hole in my tit to heal. Just need a bit of a moan as it’s getting me down.

Singletrackmind · 21/08/2023 19:17

Hello @Notooserious really sorry to hear this, not surprised you are feeling low, it sounds very hard indeed. Your body will be working overtime, so whilst your head is missing your normal exercise you will need to give yourself a break ( in all senses) whilst everything heals. Sending you lots of healing well wishes, hang in there! 😌

Martinisarebetterdirty · 21/08/2023 20:29

Oh @Notooserious I’m so sorry to hear this. Lots of healing wishes from me too along with unmumsnetty hugs.

Oh you poor poor thing. That all sounds awful.

Notooserious · 21/08/2023 21:36

Thanks for the sympathy and hugs @MorrisZapp @Martinisarebetterdirty and @Singletrackmind I am just feeling a bit sorry for myself today. The combo of everything has really knocked me for six and I expected to be bopping around as normal by now so it’s a case of having to accept resting up which is not my normal style!😬
I hope everyone else is feeling much more the thing than me - and for those folks about to have surgery/thinking about it, this isn’t normal, I just got super super unlucky, you will be grand. And it will all be worth it in the end.

Heartfullofcheese · 21/08/2023 21:45

Oh I’m sorry to hear this @Notooserious - I hope you recover soon.
I know this does happen in a percentage of cases and it worries me tbh.
