Chicco Next2Me Twins Crib review: "Everyone is sleeping better!"

The Chicco Next2Me has long been one of the most popular co-sleeper cribs among parents of newborns on Mumsnet, so when we got the opportunity to review the brand's innovative twin version, we couldn't wait to see how well it performed. Mum of newborn twins Helina put it to the test.

What we like
  • Allows twins to sleep next to each other safely

  • Lots of ventilation and air flow thanks to the mesh side panels

  • 11 adjustable height settings means it's compatible with most beds and can be adapted to help with reflux and colic

  • Easy to wash

  • Feels sturdy and safe

What we don't like
  • Heavy to move around once assembled

  • Assembly can take a bit of patience - our parent-testers needed around 30 minutes and a YouTube video to do it

How we tested the Chicco Next2Me Twins Crib

New mum Helina tested out the Chicco Next2Me Twins Crib over a period of several months with her newborn twins from birth. The babies initially used just one compartment of the crib together when they were small enough to sleep safely together before transitioning to the two separate compartments as they grew. During testing, Helina took extensive notes testing the crib for ease of assembly, sturdiness, safety, ease of adjustment and practicality. She then provided an overall assessment on the crib based on its value for money and whether she would recommend it to other parents of twins.

We used the Next2Me Twins Crib from when our twin babies were newborn. Initially they slept in the same side when they were small enough to sleep safely together. Now they are moving around a bit more they use separate compartments.

How easy is the crib to assemble?

"The crib arrived with a fabric attachment and it needed to be assembled. This took around 30 minutes - most things just clicked together but we did use a YouTube video for guidance."

Does the crib feel safe and sturdy once assembled?

"Yes. It feels very rigid and there is no chance of it rocking over with the way that the legs are placed."

We like the way the crib looks, the grey design is good and neutral.

How easy is it to the adjust the crib for use as a co-sleeper?

It's very easy to adjust the crib, the height can change with a simple click mechanism and if you have a divan bed the two forward legs can be adjusted inwards. It feels very safe as both height mechanisms need to be adjusted for movement.

How many different settings are there for height and incline?

As with the original Next2Me crib, the Twins Crib features 11 different height settings.

There are lots of different height settings, we love that you can change the height to suit what you're doing, from sleeping to nappy changing - it really saves your back!

How portable is the crib?

"It's not very portable once assembled. You'd need to disconnect quite a few parts and it's quite heavy for one person to move around."

What are the best features of the Chicco Next2Me Twins Crib?

We love the amount of space the twins get, especially considering there's two of them. We love the way they can see each other and be safe at the same time. Also when there's been a projectile nappy explosion, we could easily take the whole fabric off, wash it and put it back on with ease - and the mattresses are very easy to clean and change too!

How well did your babies settle in the crib?

"They settled well in it, we swaddled them at first but once they got a bit older they went into sleeping bags."

How does the Chicco Next2Me Twins Crib compare to other baby beds you've used?

"It feels a lot bigger and has far more height adjustment settings."

Being able to reach both twins at night and feed quickly on demand has been great.

How well does the crib 'grow' with your babies?

"It says it can be used up to six months or 9kg."

Does the crib represent good value for money?

For the peace of mind that the twins can sleep side by side but not hurt each other, the value for money of this crib is a no-brainer.

"We would absolutely recommend this crib to other twin parents. We are very impressed and everyone's quality of sleep has been improved by this crib. Being able to reach them both and feed quickly at night has been great. The netting is really cool as they can see each other and be together safely now they are moving around more. And the drop down front is great for peace of mind."

Finally, we asked Helina to rate the Chicco Next2Me Twins for the following considerations:

Sturdiness:
Practicality:
Comfiness:
