Thank goodness for some more sanity. I hope it lasts.

ChristmasWrappingTheWaitresses · 22/12/2018 16:55

Great that he has stepped up.

Alison Moyet who tweeted in favour of Martina Navratilova earlier seems to have disappeared unless my Twitter is not working properly

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 22/12/2018 16:55

Been a long time coming Mr Webb, but I think we all suspected it.
I’m hoping the next time I click that link it doesn’t say ‘This Tweet has been deleted’. Ihope he’s made of sterner stuff.

ginyogarepeat · 22/12/2018 17:01

That's what I'm hoping too Judas......

He also replied to Janice's original tweet promoting the article:

twitter.com/arobertwebb/status/1076516541062090752

Retweeted. They can shove their influence up their arses. I’ll influence them under the table. Great column. Sorry I’ve been such a coward this year. Merry Christmas (and you too, comedy brother-in-law) x

Bittermints · 22/12/2018 17:06

Giles Coren said something supportive to Janice yesterday too, I think. I wonder if he and RW between them might talk to David Mitchell.

Neurotrash · 22/12/2018 17:06

I think we've always known Grin

peepholepringle · 22/12/2018 17:08

It's so encouraging to see him stick his head over the parapet like that.

SunsetBeetch · 22/12/2018 17:10

Yep can't see Alison any more on twitter.

KittyMcKitty · 22/12/2018 17:15

David Baddiel has also tweeted Janice supportively.

Bowlofbabelfish · 22/12/2018 17:16

Oh good.

Helmetbymidnight · 22/12/2018 17:16

Robert Webb has paddled in gc waters before- it was clear thats where his heart was.
I love him for many reasons inc his flashdance!

ProfessionalBarren · 22/12/2018 17:18

David Mitchell is probably a bit too mainstream to really come out for this, I suspect. Both Webb (who I a little bit love Blush) and Coren (who I like rather less) are both known for being a bit more edgy/controversial. David M’s got a lot riding on not rocking the boat.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 22/12/2018 17:19

If they keep this up and get David Mitchell to come out too it'll be the best Christmas present ever.

Helmetbymidnight · 22/12/2018 17:19

Alison moyet broke her own silence to tweet- I think it was clear her intention was to do a one off message of support.

Bowlofbabelfish · 22/12/2018 17:19

Many, many a minor lab argument has been solved with a hair flip and a, ‘This is MY laboratoire!’

GrimDamnFanjo · 22/12/2018 17:21

Good lad!
I love that he's spoken out, hope he is also a Mumsnetter..

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 22/12/2018 17:21

It's been building for ages. Good on him!

papayasareyum · 22/12/2018 17:23

I knew it! I'm glad he's speaking up. The tide is definitely turning. About time too!

WrathofRancidKlopp · 22/12/2018 17:28

We really do need more men to be vocal for us.
They get far less of the viciousness piled on them.

Glinner has taken a lot of flack but he has stuck his head out higher than most.

Retired commentators and retired sportsmen and women.
We need you.

frogintheTyne · 22/12/2018 17:28

Coren is a bit off for me. I remember a couple of articles he wrote a few years ago when his wife was pregnant about how he hoped the baby would be a girl because girls are "nicer" than boys. All a bit genderist stereotypical rubbish i thought at the time, and I hoped for the future child's sake it would indeed be a girl rather than a boy, so as not to be such a terrible disappointment to the parents. It was a really depressing article I thought. Poor kid either way actually.

Helmetbymidnight · 22/12/2018 17:29

The one I want (?) is Gary linekar.

frogintheTyne · 22/12/2018 17:30

Anyway, well done to Robert Webb.

His book is in DH's stocking this year :-)

ScipioAfricanus · 22/12/2018 17:35

I’m so pleased - he’s actually put his money where his mouth is and risked angering the mob.

So far no abusive comments that I can see but I think even with my insignificant twitter presence I’m on a lot of the block lists so maybe I just can’t see them.

ScipioAfricanus · 22/12/2018 17:37

I loved Robert Webb’s book, passed it on to my husband who loved it too, and I am so glad that when my son is a teenager I’ll have this fab resource to give him and speak to him about gender issues from such a funny and clever voice.
