What a brilliant piece by ExcelPope.

If the hammering of an actual lgbt icon and tennis legend, by a transactivist, doesn't peak trans the nation then I'm not sure what will.

And thanks to Rob, glinner (of course!), Baddiel, and any other men who are tentatively beginning to speak out for women. Come on Jolyon! You can do it!

Popchyk · 23/12/2018 12:49

What shall we do while they are otherwise occupied?

This had me laughing. Nothing to do with anything at all but it was from Giles Coren (who supported Janice Turner on her column on Mermaids).

It was a video of the time he and Sue Perkins got absolutely plastered while doing their Good Life Christmas Cocktails show.

Deborah Orr has just piped up as well in response to the Martina Navratilova tweets. She is saying that her support for trans people is obviously not enough and it’s pissing her off. Looks like another own goal for the TRAs.

Here chat with Sally Hines in the mentions is interesting too. Orr says quite clearly that transwomen are transwomen and seems to understand now that it makes her a heathen.

PennyMordauntsLadyBrain · 23/12/2018 13:30

Saw the chat between Deborah and Hines, MissSusan.

Hines came across as a total idiot.

littlbrowndog · 23/12/2018 13:41

It’s getting out there
I had a load of WhatsApp messages re martina
My hairdresser said have you heard about this transgender stuff
He had heard it from another client

It’s out there people who,don5 do twitter are talking and not in the way the tra want at all

littlbrowndog · 23/12/2018 13:41

Ppl getting pissed righ5 off with it

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 23/12/2018 13:46

It’s out there people who,don5 do twitter are talking and not in the way the tra want at all

This is the thing, you can't silence people talking. You can restrict websites, you can ban people, you can trick companies into signing agreements which skew what they can post and report, but you can't stop people talking.

TwistedStitch · 23/12/2018 13:48

It’s out there people who,don5 do twitter are talking and not in the way the tra want at all

Yep. That's why TRAs engage in such extreme silencing tactics- they know their arguments don't stand up to scrutiny so they want it all pushed through under the radar, no debate. It's interesting how the more scrutiny their ideology comes under, the more unhinged they get- reminds me of an abusive man threatening to kill himself if his wife dates to leave.

TwistedStitch · 23/12/2018 13:48

*dares

Ereshkigal · 23/12/2018 13:58

Much credit has to be given to Fair Play for Women, A Woman’s Place UK And Mumsnet for sticking their heads above the parapet. Without all these voices standing together, individuals wouldn’t be joining the debate

This. I'm so proud of all the women who've got people to question this agenda.

MissSusanScreams · 23/12/2018 14:03

@PennyMordauntsLadyBrain

Yup. I thought Orr was fairly calm, friendly and reasonable. What I liked about it was the politeness of the exchange made it hard for Hines to get flustered and acusative.

What was best about it is that I think Deborah Orr’s position is how a lot of people feel: sympathy for those with dysphoria and wanting to be supportive but actually bemused, a bit annoyed and starting to get more concerned about the demands being made and the double speak.

Katvonbatshit · 23/12/2018 14:05

They already spread hate against JK

I mean she deserves it .... she's "liked" 2 gender critical tweets. Surely that's a burning offense.

Fuck em all JK

Clonakilty · 23/12/2018 14:10

I hope that more public figures will follow the lead of these people and put their heads above the parapet. We need the likes of Sir Ian McKellen to speak out as well.

Gia says what many of us think:

Me: ’I don’t believe what you believe. I’d like to ask a bunch of questions.’
Random Person: ’You are a bigot and a cunt and I will stomp on your head then set you on fire, if I ever see you.’

Lefty Man: ‘You are equally as bad as each other.’

Me: ‘Lefty Man, fuck you.’

Gia came out as gender critical years ago - was one of the first people (I was aware of) to be added to the glorious BlockBot (pre-cursor to TerfBlocker).

She did go quiet, I'm glad she's speaking up again. Really pleased that more and more people are objecting to science and biology being erased too. Biology matters. It can't just be erased because it doesn't fit with the trans-narrative. Clownfish my arse.

HomeStar · 23/12/2018 17:15

Hahaha the Christmas Adam post that Gia retweeted!

HandsOffMyRights · 23/12/2018 17:19

Heartening to see Gia speak out again. We need more now.

Come on again, Lord Winston, David Attenborough, Lucy Worsley and co!

StrangeLookingParasite · 23/12/2018 17:29

Some of the responses, though:

"Transphobia hurts cis women and makes gender boundaries more restricted - arguments otherwise are simple lies"

I think this person is a bit simple. It's all just knee-jerk responses, from a script.

And this one:
"I would love to tell you my family’s story and just how much Mermaids 🧜🏻‍♀️ have helped me to get through the hardest year of my life. I suspect they will be helping me for years to come given my child is only 7.
Please listen to the people who actually know. "

7! Their child is seven and they're swallowing this crap hook line and sinker!

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 23/12/2018 17:33

Their child is seven and they're swallowing this crap hook line and sinker!

And people will be looking on and finding their post concerning, this is all helping rasie concern with mermaids practise.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 23/12/2018 17:33

Why do you think Lucy Worsley might? Has she hinted?

ScipioAfricanus · 23/12/2018 17:33

All they have are appeals to people’s sympathy. Emotional guilt tripping.

My child was seven until recently. Doesn’t completely understand reproduction but I’m sure old enough to decide on a gender identity.

ScipioAfricanus · 23/12/2018 17:34

Last paragraph was sarcastic in tone!
