Go Robert Webb!

I really hope JK Rowling will nail her colours to the mast. I don't quite understand what is stopping her, it's not like TRAs can get her sacked.

papayasareyum · 22/12/2018 17:39

we need loads of these high profile people to come forward and say what they've been privately thinking, like most of the world, for months if not years. We need their voices.

Sexnotgender · 22/12/2018 17:39

Great to see more people openly supportive.

Helmetbymidnight · 22/12/2018 17:40

I don’t think jk can- her biggest fan base are the woke. They’ll be burning dobby in the street and breaking their wands.

Sexnotgender · 22/12/2018 17:41

She’s made already. So what I’m some middle aged beardy bloke doesn’t buy any more of her books.

Helmetbymidnight · 22/12/2018 17:42

Mm I don’t think it’s that easy. Everyone suspects she’s gc though.

teawamutu · 22/12/2018 17:49

Thank you, Robert Webb. Another head above the parapet when it's really needed.

teawamutu · 22/12/2018 17:51

And yy PLEASE to JK Rowling coming out as GC. She's funny as fuck (brilliant series of tweets on Corbyn and remain today) and so influential.

ScipioAfricanus · 22/12/2018 17:54

If anyone doesn’t know, Oliver Burkeman is also openly gender critical on Twitter. I know he’s not as famous and therefore helpful to the cause as JK Rowling would be, but I’ve appreciated him doing this for some time as a Guardian writer. I’ve always loved his columns and books so it’s pleasing just like it is about Robert Webb. Even though it is possible to like somethings a person does or thinks and not others, as the TRAs seem to find impossible to comprehend (which always strikes me as very...binary of them).

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 22/12/2018 17:55

They’ll be burning dobby in the street and breaking their wands.

They will by buying them to burn them, because they are like that.

Boycott a free paper and everything.

OnAScaleOf1to10ItsA7 · 22/12/2018 17:55

Yay! Thank you Robert Webb.

NotTerfNorCis · 22/12/2018 18:04

Good for you, Robert.

Strange no one had told him to accept correction, apologise and do better. What's going on?

fidgetspinner555 · 22/12/2018 18:07

Really glad another has spoken out. Thank you Robert.

Interesting how he didn't name Glinner and later on when someone mentioned him, said "I didn't mention him".

Fucks sake.

Graham is still the original hero.

We just need more to do it now...come on celebs you know you want to.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 22/12/2018 18:11

The more that do it, the easier it will become for each subsequent one.

deepwatersolo · 22/12/2018 18:12

To be fair NotTerf he did get ‚wrong side of historied‘* on Twitter.

*yes, I‘ve made a Verb of it.

LatinForTelly · 22/12/2018 18:18

Good for Robert Webb. Still drumming fingers for Caitlin Moran, whom I used to love, but has gone down in my estimation considerably (which I'm sure will worry her Grin )

I know this is 'crossing threads' but how can anyone read that exchange between Navratilova and Mckinnon and not see the bullshit, and call it out?

deepwatersolo · 22/12/2018 18:24

Fun fact: when the ancient Greek Aristarchus of Samos postulated heliocentrism, he was on the wrong side of (hundreds and hundreds of years of) history.

(Sorry for the tangent).

What mermaids has turned into and what they are doing is going to be the final straw for a lot of people.

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 22/12/2018 18:30

Mermaids have responded

Good for Mermaids not taking the "No debate" line.

ScipioAfricanus · 22/12/2018 18:32

Ugh have seen a comment on his Twitter thread telling him to ‘do better’. It’s just amazing how entitled people feel (especially when they haven’t got any evidence that the person they are berating is wrong, just of a different opinion).

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 22/12/2018 18:34

Although the fact that it's taken a review to do that is very telling.

Terfing · 22/12/2018 18:42

His gender critical book is endorsed by JKRowling...

I think Rowling wants to come out, but she's been told not to...

I'm sure I read somewhere that she's a Mumsnetter?

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 22/12/2018 18:44

I'm guessing she has been Advised not to, could it endanger her contracts with Warner if she did?

Terfing · 22/12/2018 18:45

Oh come on, there's no way Warner would ever give up Harry Potter! Even if they did, someone else would snap it up instantly.
