Let's meet up - find/start gender critical feminist groups

There have been a couple of threads recently about finding/starting local gender critical feminist groups in real life, see here and here.

How about we just do it!

If you feel comfortable doing so, please post your nearest large town/city and we can then contact each other by pm (after due diligence with an advanced search) and talk to each other at a local level, and then organise for groups to meet up in real life.

I'll start. I'm in the far north of Scotland so don't really expect anyone very close to me, but would love to find anyone who could meet up in Inverness.

I also know of groups who meet up in Dundee, Glasgow and Edinburgh who I would be willing to pass on your details to.

Many of us are quite rightly cautious of being out in public on this issue, but are simultaneously desperate to find like-minded women. If anyone has any better ideas for us connecting in real life, please post.

Lancaster for me, would love to find a group

Typeractive · 26/05/2018 11:01

Great idea, OP. Real life connections are so important as it's anyone's guess how long the discussions will be allowed to continue here. Sad

I'm in London.

Companion42 · 26/05/2018 11:04

I'm in between Dudley and Birmingham so could get to either!

AncientLights · 26/05/2018 11:10

Near Leeds/Bradford.

Cuntysnark · 26/05/2018 11:16

Stratford-upon-Avon & Coventry for me. I know 2 or 3 women who would be interested in Coventry (waves at one!)

ErrolTheDragon · 26/05/2018 11:26

Preston.

BadgerTheBodger, that makes us practically neighbours in NW terms. I need to dig out my password to send/read PMs, can't do it from the app.

I have just messaged... Somebody!

Cuntysnark I'm in Coventry too! Would love to do this.

WhatTheWaterShowedMe · 26/05/2018 12:14

Brighton- I’m already organising something and have some interest so shoot me a PM.

daysofpearlyspencer · 26/05/2018 12:16

Milton Keynes, Bedford, Northants area?

SpareRibFem · 26/05/2018 12:27

I think a number of people won't want to give away their location on a public forum that's searchable

I wonder if we should have someone volunteer to be pmed names for a region that isn't their own. They could then select someone within that region that contacts them to ask them to co-ordinate and then tell others via pm who to contact.

I'd also suggest that for the initial groups each co-ordinator does a quick check of anyone who contacts them to see when they joined and what they've posted before including them in the groups initially. I realise that makes it harder for genuine new lurkers to get involved but it is a way of protecting us from TRAs.

What does anyone else think?

Writersblock2 · 26/05/2018 12:48

I’m doing one off the back of WPUK Cornwall. Sign-up sheets will be available on the night. :)

BetsyM00 · 26/05/2018 12:51

I get your point SpareRibFem but I don't think it needs to made overly complicated.

If anyone doesn't want to post their nearest city, just wait until someone else does on the thread - then advance search and pm them for an initial conversation. drspouse has already done this upthread.

Merchfach · 26/05/2018 12:53

I started one of the recent threads and I'd like to apologise to the women who PMd me to find to find out where in the UK I am and enquiring whether we could get together and organise something. I'm new to Mumsnet and this whole thing and having asked the question on here I lost my nerve when it came to outing my identity and location. My apologies for being a wuss.

Cooroo · 26/05/2018 12:58

We have a small group of GC women in North/West Yorkshire and some of us met up very informally last night. It was lovely and liberating to meet like-minded women and be able to talk without reserve about our concerns. I recommend making contact. We are in a Facebook group set up by a MNer, but I know this is a problem for people who don't do FB.

PurpleCrowbar · 26/05/2018 13:18

I'm overseas for the foreseeable or I'd be joining you in Yorkshire!

As it is, am happy to join online groups...Smile

UpstartCrow · 26/05/2018 13:21

I'm disabled and cant travel easily, so online is best for me.

gubbinsy · 26/05/2018 13:23

Cooroo - how would I make contact?

tobee · 26/05/2018 13:55

I'm in south London. Smile

Amethyst975 · 26/05/2018 14:19

I'm one of the ones who's going to have to wait patiently... SadBrew
