Anyone else watching tonight?

(Ireland apparently gets Wednesday episodes instead.
No spoilers, please!).

iloveredwine Thu 25-May-17 19:39:02

oh just up my street! never seen this advertised but will def be watching! thanks

ThaliaLuxurySpa Thu 25-May-17 20:39:13

We'll compare notes later, ilove!

I'm surprised by the lack of BBC publicity, too. Entirely by chance that I came across it.

(Maybe they learnt their lesson about not overhyping, after "The Replacement"?
Must admit I read "Paula" and "dark suspense", "chilling" etc., and suddenly thought MNers' complaints about unanswered plot holes with that show, and our plea for a far better ending, had been taken on board!).

Psychological dramas are so popular.

Ooh thanks for this, haven't seen it advertised at all so would have missed it.

Smellbellina Thu 25-May-17 21:21:24

Just watching, loving it so far. Hooked!

liquidrevolution Thu 25-May-17 21:31:11

That girls face made me shriek!

Its good. Plus lots of good irish actors in it.

DustyMaiden Thu 25-May-17 21:33:09

Thanks for the tip, I shall watch

Smellbellina Thu 25-May-17 21:55:47

Had to miss the end for a crying, would like to say baby but truth is toddler. Grrr

DereksGotATail Thu 25-May-17 22:25:42

Quite liked this but I've got no idea what's happening with the white van man (forgotten his name blush). Looking forward to nexr week.

cushioncovers Thu 25-May-17 22:46:54

Am watching it now but completely confused with the white van man and his two women

Clawdy Thu 25-May-17 22:50:27

Yes, the family situation is really puzzling. It was a gripping first episode though.

SirVixofVixHall Thu 25-May-17 22:53:13

All v confusing, and then got to the bit about ten minutes before the end, and I just couldn't watch any more.

ThaliaLuxurySpa Thu 25-May-17 23:05:05

Well, that was...er...different!

Thoughts:

- Denise Gough's really good. Very real. Excellent eye-rolling skills.
She reminds me of Elizabeth Moss (sidenote: Top Of The Lake returns in July...yay.). Perhaps with some Ann-Marie Duff combined?

- Intrigued to know what James's back story is: 2 mothers of his DC unhappily living together.

He's obviously violent.

My money's on the younger woman (Morgan, I think?), with the youngest child, being of central relevance based on nothing as yet but I'll cobble together a theory soon

- WTF, oh scary horror film girl with your sewn-up mouth? shock

cushioncovers Thu 25-May-17 23:13:20

Well that was weird!

ThaliaLuxurySpa Thu 25-May-17 23:14:26

^ ahem, EliSabeth Moss.

Smellbellina Thu 25-May-17 23:15:50

I found it interesting how the mother of the younger child appeared to be girlfriend number 1

Smellbellina Thu 25-May-17 23:17:20

WTF, oh scary horror film girl with your sewn-up mouth? shock
Whaaaat?? I missed that bit!

Clawdy Thu 25-May-17 23:26:10

Intriguing that he wanted the old photo. And there's obviously some childhood trauma in his past......that spooky child...

ThaliaLuxurySpa Thu 25-May-17 23:27:19

Wish I had!

Was in James's van drive home, after he'd slept with Paula. Caused him to hit a parked car.

ThaliaLuxurySpa Thu 25-May-17 23:31:01

I'm assuming it's his mother he's visiting in the nursing home, but was that made clear?

cushioncovers Thu 25-May-17 23:34:14

Yes he referred to her as mum

youngestisapsycho Fri 26-May-17 09:54:42

I loved it! Very strange set up with James though....

HalfShellHero Fri 26-May-17 10:17:42

Just watching this now im assuming brother is an alchoholic.

SoupDragon Fri 26-May-17 11:25:15

It'll be interesting how this pans out.

The hallucination of the girl in the van made me jump too!

I'm finding it hard to work out the set up in James's family. Did he beat one of them up at one point?

SirVixofVixHall Fri 26-May-17 11:47:33

Uggh, it was so violent. I may try and finish the episode tonight, but the bludgeoning was too horrible, i gave up at that point. It is really frightening.
