There are a lot of posts of people worrying. I thought it could be helpful to share positive and assuring information in one thread.

For me, the most reassuring thing so far is the fact that of approx. 1500 people in the UK suspected to have and tested for CV have come back as negative.

I agree, although felt quite cross when read the todays Times article about the new cases and doctors not been informed promptly etc.

Patients and doctors were expressing anger that they had not been informed earlier after it emerged on Tuesday night that a doctor in the accident and emergency unit at Worthing Hospital, West Sussex, had tested positive for the illness. Members of staff at the hospital said that they had not been told about the case until Tuesday, although they saw people in hazmat suits last week

A child with pre-existing illness is now being tested after coming into contact. I think the response here would do more to help my anxiety rather than some of the way it is being handled to be honest.

Spread rate outside of the epicentre seems low to me. Still only 9 cases here even though probably hundreds of people have travelled back from China since the virus first started

All of the UK evacuees have tested negative

No more tested positive in York since the first 2 cases identified there

The WHO descriptions of "worse than terrorism" etc, are surely related to the economic consequences of people being sick at the same time, rather than us all dropping dead in the street?

These are some of the positives that are keeping my anxiety at bay currently. I am no expert though

a health centre who specifically study coronavirus' have said the fact most cases are mild is a real hallmark of the virus and makes it different to SARs. the fact there is a small number here and the response has been so brilliant from the NHS. that although people are slating China they have actually been pretty proactive at trying to stop the spread.

finally, that we have had pandemics before and come out the other side

Thank you for this thread OP. I’m very anxious about all of this but trying to be calm.
A positive thing I’d like to contribute is that so far studies have shown children seem to have very mild symptoms.

Thanks for this thread as a health anxiety sufferer I can’t keep away from the preppers board and constantly reading it is starting to make me feel ill which is no good for anyone.

Thats interesting, so do they gain immunity, or is this something you can get twice?

immunity is likely - IF it follows suit of other illness' caused by coronvirus'. some strains of the common cold are caused by coronovrius' and generally once you've had it you're immune. the reason people still gets cold every year is because it's a different strain. the same with flu, you need a flu jab yearly because they dont know which ones are going to be prevalent that year. someone with medical experience I'm sure could explain a lot better but hope I kind of make sense

In, roughly, every 60 cases, 59 recover 😁 I’m bad at maths and this is just based on a rough look at cases and fatalities though. I’m no epidemiologist.

If folk are worried about the numbers in China and the possibility of inaccurate data being sent out. I find these stats of interest in a positive manner. For example, the first case in Thailand was identified now a month ago. Yet still only 33 confirmed cases. The spread does not seem as rapid throughout all of these countries.

The 2% death rate is in Hubei province. The death rate for the rest of China and the rest of the world is much lower, more like 0.2%. That would suggest that a) in Hubei province only the sickest are being diagnosed and admitted to hospital, artificially increasing the death rate, and b) the death rate is possibly being pushed up due to the health system being overstretched. As long as that does not happen here, our death rate should not reach 2%. For reference, the death rate of ordinary flu is about 0.1%.

It seems to spread easily and quickly -- BUT most people who get it simply get sick and then get well. So I'm not worried. It's not a death sentence. Far from it....

There are currently two different antiviral drug trials in progress:

So there may well be an effective treatment on the horizon.

@Thelnebriati You can get immunity but it doesn't last long, so you could catch it again. (Still not worried....)

What a good idea OP.
For me, it’s that the vast majority- over 80% of cases - have only mild symptoms.

You have more chance of winning the Euromillions lottery jackpot than of contracting Coronavirus.

It's worrying in a global sense, it's worrying for our NHS, however the individual risk is still low.

There was an article yesterday saying women are much less likely (and children?) to get it, in case that is helpful. With the sex difference they think it might be to do with the immune system.

It’s not a dangerous virus unless you are elderly, a smoker or have an existing health condition. Most people who died were middle aged men and the majority smoked.

I need this thread OP. My health anxiety is spiralling out of control. Thank you, keep the positive comments coming.

UK: 9 cases, first case January 31

That means since the first case 14 days ago, we have had 9 cases. That averages at less than one case per day. Add to that the close proximity to Wuhan of those cases and that's reassuring.

Remember when you look at numbers in China they may seem high but the country is 1.4 billion strong th numbers are a tiny percentage.
