AIBU?

To not be impressed by Shepard's huts in gardens.

The sight of them is now giving me the rage. It feels like every garden in some areas has an elevated shed on wheels stuck in the corner. The early adopters sheds have a tatty bit of colour faded bunting attached.
No, I do not want to pay a premium to sleep in one on holiday. Cramped, ill thought out, not a quirky, cool, one-off experience.
YANBU Shepard's Huts are not impressive, they give me the rage too.
YABU Garden Shepard's Hut are adorable, get out the bunting, I'm envious.

I gave no idea what you’re talking about. What are shepherds huts?

DappledThings · 06/07/2020 12:39

Never heard of one, let alone them being a garden trend. How many gardens are you seeing them in?

eddiemairswife · 06/07/2020 12:42

David Cameron has 2.

edwinbear · 06/07/2020 12:42

PIL's live in Cornwall and are thinking about getting one in their garden for DC to sleep/play in when we go to visit them. It won't be visible to anyone as it will be in their garden so can't see how that would impact on anyone - even if it did, they can put whatever they want in their private garden. Confused. I think it would be very generous of them and DC would love it.

TicketToTheWrongFilm · 06/07/2020 12:42

I would love to have both a garden and a shed/shepherd’s hut. I have neither. Oh well!

Where are you seeing all these huts?

MissBaskinIfYoureNasty · 06/07/2020 12:46

Awkward Grin I thought they were lovely traditional traveller caravan type things.

MyPersona · 06/07/2020 12:46

People use them as office space, summer houses etc. How does it affect you? Are you offended because they’re quite expensive?

RachelRosie · 06/07/2020 12:49

Bloody Nora they are pricey!

CaptainMyCaptain · 06/07/2020 12:50

I wouldn't say I was impressed but I quite like them. No different to having a summerhouse in the garden.

Camomila · 06/07/2020 12:50

I like them, they seem really useful to wfh from, or for older kids to have sleepovers/have friends round.

The closest I've got is my 4 year olds wooden playhouse at my parents, I suppose I could hunker down with my laptop!

daisypond · 06/07/2020 12:52

What are they? I’ve never seen one.

Lockdownseperation · 06/07/2020 12:52

You do know that just because something exists that you don’t have to one or use one yourself. Other holidays are available.

ResumetonormalASAP · 06/07/2020 12:52

The charge a premium price for people to stay in a 'cute' Shepherd Hut or other very small quirky accommodation.... it's all the fashion at the moment - 'staycation' and all.....

Weloveoptimus · 06/07/2020 12:56

It slightly annoyed me that you spelled it incorrectly.

fuckinghellapeacock · 06/07/2020 12:58

I have one, because I am a shepherd. It doesn't have wheels thou and it isn't painted and it smells of sheep.

cheezy · 06/07/2020 13:00

I love shepherds huts. Love staying in them, ideally in the middle of a wood rather than in someone’s garden. I’d love one but they are very expensive.

Ginkypig · 06/07/2020 13:05

Nothing but a spider hub!

Nousernameforme · 06/07/2020 13:07

Oh they look blissful I dream of living in one alone when all the kids have moved on and dp has buggered off somewhere me and a small dog wood fire babbling stream idyllic skylines.
In reality it would be cold damp and probably full of smoke, I would be starving as I have no survival skills, but I can dream.

Pelleas · 06/07/2020 13:07

I haven't heard of them. How are they different from garden sheds?

Handsnotwands · 06/07/2020 13:09

Op are you talking about the proliferation of them on air bnb etc? Where I agree, lots of folk have bunged them at the end of the garden and expect people to pay £180 a night to stay in them?

What on earth is a shepherds hut, never heard of that in my life!

rc22 · 06/07/2020 13:12

They don't enrage me but I wouldn't rush to buy one or holiday in one either!!

Abraid2 · 06/07/2020 13:19

It would help if you spelled the item's name properly! I thought you were talking about a company run by the Shepard family rather than generic shepherd's hut.
