You know, the kind of behaviour only you know about which is unusual, and would make people go Hmm but you love doing?

For example, I binge on three different Netflix programmes at any one time in what I call a "3-2-1" sequence, which goes like this:

  • I will watch a long series (currently Peep Show) 3 episodes at a time
  • then I will watch 2 episodes of a shorter series (Santa Clarita Diet at the mo)
  • I'll then watch one episode of a weekly-type series after that (Jane the Virgin season 5 at the moment)
  • Then it starts with the 3 episodes again, and so on and so forth

I can't deviate from the 3-2-1 sequence, and if for example I've finished the Santa Clarita Diet episodes but the next episode of Jane the Virgin isn't on until 2 day's time, I'll wait to watch anything more until then. I can't just skip it and watch the next 3 Peep Shows, or the world will probably end or something

I don't know why I do this or when it started, but it works for me ConfusedGrin

Please make me feel normal and tell me your secret weird behaviour

When I’m alone I pretend I am being filmed for a documentary about how shit my life is sometimes- there are 2 imaginary camera men called Phil and ken and Mary is the interviewer

HildaAlida · 23/04/2019 19:58

Er...I spend more time researching and locating where to stream movies and series I want to watch, so much so that I never actually get around to watching them. Does that count?

SandraDea · 23/04/2019 19:59

Sometimes I get caught though and people ask who I’m talking to so I just say I’m thinking out loud

BurnerPhone · 23/04/2019 20:03

SandraDea that's amazing! I often think that other people can see me/hear my thoughts even though I know they can't

JasperSIn · 23/04/2019 20:05

I masturbate. A lot Blush

Ginger1982 · 23/04/2019 20:06

I pretend I'm a character in whatever show I'm into at that time!

Littlepond · 23/04/2019 20:11

I imagine TV shows I watch are real and fit myself in. Like How I Met Your Mother - I imagine meeting Ted at the university where he is a professor and I’m doing a postgrad course as an overseas student. I meet Leonard from Big Bang Theory in similar circumstances. I “act out” whole conversations in my head.

BarefootHippieChick · 23/04/2019 20:26

I read all my books in alphabetical order. I have a list of books 'to read' and every time I buy new ones I slot them into the list alphabetically and carry on from there. I only really do it because otherwise I'd probably spend hours staring at the bookcase trying to decide which one to read next.

Tinkoschminko · 23/04/2019 20:30

JasperSin Why the fuck wouldn’t you? We can crack about twenty out in an ad break!

I have a few different imaginary lives. I always have. I love them all.

ScrambledToe · 23/04/2019 20:30

sandradea I wanna start doing that! What are your conversations like?

SweatyUnderboob · 23/04/2019 20:32

I go on epic Wikipedia binges about whatever random thing is sparking my interest in that time. Inevitably I get distracted, or my thinking tangents onto an unrelated subject, then I play a game to see if I can bring up the Wikipedia page of the new interest solely through clicking links on the pages. This evolved from being too lazy to type.

Goodnight 😳

LeggyLinda · 23/04/2019 20:34

I never ever take the top newspaper or magazine from the pile in the newsagents.
Also, as we’re on the subject, I mentally narrate every TV show/movie I watch as though I was writing the script - never thought that was odd until I just thought about it.

Smudggle · 23/04/2019 20:34

I flap my hands manically. I find it really calming. I can suppress it in public. So weird Confused

LeggyLinda · 23/04/2019 20:37

@sweaty - it sounds like you’d enjoy the wiki race game

whitetoblerone · 23/04/2019 20:38

I move my toes a lot when sitting but when I'm a passenger in a car I press my toes into the floor at every lamppost along the way. Don't know why, it's automatic now!

Didntwanttochangemyname · 23/04/2019 20:38

I'm on a diet, so if I really want to eat something but I know I don't really need it I chew it and spit it out in to the bin Blush

Arrowfanatic · 23/04/2019 20:39

I write fanfiction, would die if anyone IRL found out Blush

SimonJT · 23/04/2019 20:40

I mainly just wear pants when I’m at home, occasionally I’ll put a vest on as well.

Namechange8471 · 23/04/2019 20:41

I suffer from naladaptive daydreaming

I pace up and down to music whilst imagining scenarios in my head. Can be anything from celeb encounters to having a baby.

SandraDea · 23/04/2019 20:42

My conversations are actually very therapeutic- as ‘Mary’ asks quite pertinent questions and helps me put things in perspective. I then ‘hear’ the audience empathising so on the whole feels much better.

I think the last interview was why my eldest son is such a little shit and we all came to the conclusion it was not my fault and has his fathers genetics 😂

JasperSIn · 23/04/2019 20:43

@Namechange8471, I had that severely as a child and teenager. Was an escape from an awful childhood I think.

I still have it now but nowhere near as bad or constant. I had a whole world and stories which went on for years

LongTermHold · 23/04/2019 20:43

I spend huge amounts of time thinking about different roses. I know very little about gardening, have hardly any roses and never prioritise spending any money on them. I just like reading up about them and imagining how they’d look in various gardens.

BattenburgIsland · 23/04/2019 20:44

Imaginary lives!! Yes. I'm always pretending I'm a fabulous ballerina in war torn eastern Europe trying to navigate my complicated and dramatic love life.... I mutter to myself and have conversations as I'm pretending this... which has been embarrassing...

I like to chew flannels... if no one is in I might soak a flannel in some water and just have a good old chew of it.

@Arrowfanatic what's ur fanfiction about? Come on you can tell us.....

SandraDea · 23/04/2019 20:44

I also strike a pose when I fart, the last one was like one of the Charlie’s Angels

EjectorCrab · 23/04/2019 20:45

I get weirdly obsessed about things for no apparent reason and want to learn everything about said things until I move in to the next thing.

My current obsession is Norway. I have no idea why, never been or considered going. But I’m obsessively reading about Norway, Norwegian history, places in Norway, the people of Norway, traditions in Norway. I watch long YouTube videos of trains as they travel through Norway. And I’ve just learnt about a farm that is 10m under water after an avalanche created a dam which flooded the farm. It’s pretty obsessive right? Anyway, it’ll last probably another few weeks before my next obsession comes along (might be another place, a person, an event).
