You know, the kind of behaviour only you know about which is unusual, and would make people go Hmm but you love doing?

For example, I binge on three different Netflix programmes at any one time in what I call a "3-2-1" sequence, which goes like this:

  • I will watch a long series (currently Peep Show) 3 episodes at a time
  • then I will watch 2 episodes of a shorter series (Santa Clarita Diet at the mo)
  • I'll then watch one episode of a weekly-type series after that (Jane the Virgin season 5 at the moment)
  • Then it starts with the 3 episodes again, and so on and so forth

I can't deviate from the 3-2-1 sequence, and if for example I've finished the Santa Clarita Diet episodes but the next episode of Jane the Virgin isn't on until 2 day's time, I'll wait to watch anything more until then. I can't just skip it and watch the next 3 Peep Shows, or the world will probably end or something

I don't know why I do this or when it started, but it works for me ConfusedGrin

Please make me feel normal and tell me your secret weird behaviour

Ooo talking audio the volume has to be 12, 15 or 18 in the car. No idea why, anything else makes me feel really uncomfortable.

LordWheresMyShoes · 23/04/2019 21:46

I host cookery shows. I'm the next Nigella but a more feministy one.

betweentheacts · 23/04/2019 21:51

Oh god, I do most of these! My mum has (diagnosed) OCD, particularly with intrusive thoughts and compulsions, and I wonder if I'm the same - my current weird thing is that I'm quite good at accents, and suddenly a phrase or sentence or word in a particular accent will come into my head, and I CANNOT rest until I've said it out loud. But then I can't get it out my head, like a shit ear worm. Spent the last two days muttering Scottishly to myself 'aye, you'd like that, wouldn't you?'...

Oh, and I have a recurring daydream where me and people from my office are doing karaoke, and I picture who would sing which parts of the song I'm listening to, sometimes there's instruments.

Pepperwand · 23/04/2019 21:51

If I'm eating a bag of crisps, I alternate how I eat each one. The first I'll crunch down as quickly as possible without really tasting it, the next I'll suck to death to really savour the flavour before swallowing, then back to the crunching.

I also often play a game when I'm a passenger in a car of looking at say, the next three street names on the left hand side and then deciding which one I would choose to be my new surname.

This thread is amazing. @sandradea I think you might be my hero.

I spend an absurd amount of time “researching” whichever male actor plays the character I’m currently obsessed with at the time. Interviews, Instagram etc daydreaming about scenarios where I meet said character or imagining myself in specific scenes with said character, and then after a few days it will pass and I will rarely even think of said actor again.

I also do the daydreaming thing! Mainly to music. It’s the reason I can run so far, because I get totally absorbed in my daydreams.

GrumpySprout · 23/04/2019 21:52

Another toilet paper peeper here too Grin

Whenever I’m falling asleep, I will always have a song in my head. If I’m waking up and I can still here the song, I know I’ll be able to get back to sleep.

If the song stops, I’m too awake and know I won’t be able to go back to sleep.

If I’m anxious/feel ill I HAVE to jiggle my leg, it drives people crazy but it feels like I have no control over it.

nel123baby · 23/04/2019 21:53

I listen to music with my headphones in when I'm alone and imagine it's me singing on a stage with people I know watching me and being shocked at how amazing I am at singing.. I've done this since I can remember and never told anyone and now that I'm writing it out I've realised how weird it sounds 😂

HotChocolateLover · 23/04/2019 21:53

I go on YouTube and listen to callers ringing in to verify their lottery wins and imagine it’s me 😥 If only 😂Just need to buy a ticket.

Mademybed123 · 23/04/2019 21:54

My feet wake up first. Have to wiggle my toes before I open my eyes each time.

furrybadger · 23/04/2019 21:56

I play and fold my ears up and go to sleep with my ears folded into the pillow, I also do it when I’m stressed it’s like a comfort thing, I like it the most when they are freezing cold and will put my fan on next to the bed to get them nice and cold 😂🤦🏽‍♀️

TiredTodayZzzz · 23/04/2019 21:56

I have loads but can't think off the top of my head. Just want to say I love your 3-2-1 sequence and am going to use it myself. I have loads of stuff on my watchlist (20+) so this sounds like a great set up to help me work my way through it all.

Likethebattle · 23/04/2019 21:58

As a kid I had to do the ‘equal on each side thing’, if I touched something with one hand then I had to do it with the other. Both sides had to feel ‘equal’. I’m not sure why or how i grew out of it.

betweentheacts · 23/04/2019 21:58

p.s. I love you all, you weirdos.

furrybadger · 23/04/2019 22:05

Every night before I go to sleep, I have to get up and go for a wee, even if I don’t really need to wee I still have to go otherwise I wont sleep 😂

WhiteKnuckleRide · 23/04/2019 22:06

On the rare occasion that I have the whole office to myself at work, I’ll nip over to the bakery, buy the biggest, fattest cream cake they have, take it back to the office and devour it in a really piggish, stuff it all in my gob kind of way. There’s nothing stopping me from having a cream cake on any other day, but it ruins the enjoyment when I can’t eat it in private like a complete slob.

Also in private I’ll sing whatever song happens to be in my head at the time out loud on a continuous loop in different accents (Texas cowboy, Russian spy, etc.) The weirder it makes the original song sound the better. I don’t realise I’m doing it half the time but it kicks in instantly as soon as I’m left alone.

nel123baby · 23/04/2019 22:06

@Heulog
I do that too, imaging really weird things like for example oh what would happen if I just crashed my car into that oncoming car.. I would never do it but the thoughts pop into my head and also things like what would my life be like if I had something happen like losing a leg etc.. at least I'm not alone on that one 😭

Lillygolightly · 23/04/2019 22:07

I have to talk myself into having a wee....like 1...2...3...wee, I sometimes have to say this in my head several times over if I’m in a public loo as my pee gets stage fright Blush

I can’t go to sleep unless I have something on the tv I would actually want to watch (I don’t watch just listen with eyes closed until I drop off) if the program is shit it just pisses me off and keeps me awake. I find documentaries are best or podcasts like Joe Rogan, but has to be topics/guests I’m interested in. It will sometimes take me a week or more to watch/listen to the podcast because I start it the following night at the last bit I can remember before falling asleep.

wanderings · 23/04/2019 22:09

A ritual between my DH and me is that he always wraps my presents while I'm there. I love to hear the action, even though I can't see what he's wrapping, because I'm blindfolded. We do this for every present-giving occasion, I find it comforting, while everyone else thinks it's plain weird. Smile

SandraDea · 23/04/2019 22:09

I just thought of another one - when I open the fridge I quite often say a sentence about a particular food in an accent from where the food is from e.g

Baby Bels will be described in a french accent, how they have a lovel red skin and bounce along endlessly, mozzarella will be Italian and I’ll wave my arms around in an animated fashion and i pretend I have a bit black, curly moustache. And if there’s some sliced pineapple in one of my Tupperware containers I become the man from Del Monte - he say YES

Omg and don’t get me started on the freezer, with cornettos and captain birdseye there’s no stopping me.

I think maybe I should go out more 😳

Aberforthsgoat · 23/04/2019 22:09

@furrybadger your description of folding your ears into the pillow for some reason made me cry with laughter. I love you, and your folded ears

I race people I see on the street who are going in the same direction as me.
If they’re ahead of me I’ll speed up in order to pass them and inwardly high five myself and award myself points linked to the age of the person, elderly and small children don’t attract many points but I can get 20+ Points for passing young athletic looking types.
My DH thinks I’m fucking nuts.

snowdrop6 · 23/04/2019 22:13

I take Codeine for a bad back (that got better a while a go)

HandbagCrazy · 23/04/2019 22:15

If I write anything with pen and paper (meeting minutes / letters / essays etc) I have to write the alphabet at the top of the page before I start.

I also flap my hands up and down when I'm stressed

I imagine scenarios and sometimes say the conversation out loud or feel the emotions associated with it (have become very tearful while driving and imagining a sad conversation before now).

I can't stop a film one night and start again the next day. If I don't finish it, I would need to start over again so I usually don't bother.

I can't fall asleep without socks on BUT if I don't kick them off within an hour or so if falling asleep, it wakes me up because I get too hot 🙄

I'm a weirdo, I'm sure there are more

JacktomyDaniel · 23/04/2019 22:18

I also rub my feet together when I’m ill or trying to sleep. My Mum does it and my little boy does too! Drives DH insane.
