You know, the kind of behaviour only you know about which is unusual, and would make people go Hmm but you love doing?

For example, I binge on three different Netflix programmes at any one time in what I call a "3-2-1" sequence, which goes like this:

  • I will watch a long series (currently Peep Show) 3 episodes at a time
  • then I will watch 2 episodes of a shorter series (Santa Clarita Diet at the mo)
  • I'll then watch one episode of a weekly-type series after that (Jane the Virgin season 5 at the moment)
  • Then it starts with the 3 episodes again, and so on and so forth

I can't deviate from the 3-2-1 sequence, and if for example I've finished the Santa Clarita Diet episodes but the next episode of Jane the Virgin isn't on until 2 day's time, I'll wait to watch anything more until then. I can't just skip it and watch the next 3 Peep Shows, or the world will probably end or something

I don't know why I do this or when it started, but it works for me ConfusedGrin

Please make me feel normal and tell me your secret weird behaviour

I pretend I am being interviewed on various TV and Radio shows Blush

Namechange8471 · 23/04/2019 20:46

JasperSIn I've never met another person with it!

I was worse as a child, would spend hours pacing, prancing.

Do you find it difficult with music?

If I'm cleaning in the house and a song comes on I can start dreaming and find it hard to stop!

SweatyUnderboob · 23/04/2019 20:46

@LeggyLinda

You’ve just given me new Wiki fodder! Salute!

EjectorCrab · 23/04/2019 20:46

I realise that post makes me sound a bit weird. Confused

BattenburgIsland · 23/04/2019 20:47

Yes maladaptive daydreaming! I pace around to music too lol.... my husband thinks I'm nuts... he knocks on the door sometimes like 'what are you upto do you want to watch a film?' and I say no, I'm just dancing to songs and imagining things.... he just looks confused

I can’t do it without music these days.

When I was a kid I would do it when walking anywhere, I’d have to be busy, I couldn’t do it just staring at a wall!

There is a community of us on reddit!

I have found my people.

When I am a passenger in a car driving through a village, I count each house to the left hand side until I get to the value 10. This only works if I see the front door. If I cant see the front door I don't count the house.

Every 10th house I see I then own in my head BUT I can only live in one. I decide this after about 3 goes. I have recently become the imaginary owner of a large bungalow, a 17th century cottage and a block of high rise flats. Smile

sleepraptor · 23/04/2019 20:52

Whitetoblerone - I used to do something very similar as a child (occasionally now!) - I would jump the lampposts in my head as I passed them or sometimes imagined swinging from one to the next!

AtSea1979 · 23/04/2019 20:53

I got to sleep listening to audiobooks. Now I can’t sleep without the audiobooks.

Clammyclam · 23/04/2019 20:59

What a brilliant thread.
I have found me tribe.

I make up stories about exciting things that happened to me? in my head.
When I am alone I explain them aloud, like I'm telling a friend everything that happened.

I've done this since being a child and I look forward to adding to my story before I nod off.
Smile

vampirethriller · 23/04/2019 21:01

I have ten imaginary points to give to ten peoples coats every time I'm in town. So ten people with the best coats get one each. If I see more than ten good coats the game starts again.
Every time I go into a shed or unusually large walk in cupboard/storage area I imagine how I'd make it into a little house. I think where the bed would go, what kind of heating, where I'd keep the food. (I love George Clarkes Amazing Spaces!)

Spicypizza · 23/04/2019 21:01

I have (diagnosed) OCD so I spend ages carrying out my compulsions.
I know my behaviour is irrational but it briefly eases my anxiety, which is a vicious cycle. I can laugh about how mad I seem.

I also have fake arguments/fights with people. I usually win.

Spicypizza · 23/04/2019 21:06

Oh and sometimes I pretend I’m filming for a YouTube video when cooking. ‘Then you just add the chopped herbs’ and so on.

MattieB19 · 23/04/2019 21:06

I listen to film trailers and fan videos in the dark and pretend I'm the characters.

Jebuschristchocolatebar · 23/04/2019 21:07

I never realized there was a word for my compulsive daydreaming. I play out years long scenarios in my head. I narrate them out loud to myself when I am home alone. I keep thinking I should write my stories down. I also pretend I am being interviewed for a radio show or podcast

ViolentGin · 23/04/2019 21:08

I lick the seasoning off of crisps (especially doritos and pringles) before I eat them.
Because of this, I can't eat crisps in public incase I forget not to do it.

SpeckledDot · 23/04/2019 21:09

I sing a lot, but not very well. And tap dance

Namechanger4dis · 23/04/2019 21:13

Another maladaptive daydreamer here. There was a thread about it a while back.

JacktomyDaniel · 23/04/2019 21:14

My body needs to feel the same. If someone squeezes my shoulder and doesn’t do the other one I feel ridiculously anxious. I have to beg them to squeeze the other one to make it feel the same.

10PercentMoreBanana · 23/04/2019 21:15

I beep and tic. It's like all the stress from the day is relieved when I'm alone and I beep in my throat.

peachsquish · 23/04/2019 21:15

Another maladaptive dreamer here. Mainly to music and the scenarios vary depending on what I'm reading/watching.

whitetoblerone · 23/04/2019 21:16

@sleepraptor same here with the swinging as well! I think it's just habit now as an adult!
