You know, the kind of behaviour only you know about which is unusual, and would make people go Hmm but you love doing?

For example, I binge on three different Netflix programmes at any one time in what I call a "3-2-1" sequence, which goes like this:

  • I will watch a long series (currently Peep Show) 3 episodes at a time
  • then I will watch 2 episodes of a shorter series (Santa Clarita Diet at the mo)
  • I'll then watch one episode of a weekly-type series after that (Jane the Virgin season 5 at the moment)
  • Then it starts with the 3 episodes again, and so on and so forth

I can't deviate from the 3-2-1 sequence, and if for example I've finished the Santa Clarita Diet episodes but the next episode of Jane the Virgin isn't on until 2 day's time, I'll wait to watch anything more until then. I can't just skip it and watch the next 3 Peep Shows, or the world will probably end or something

I don't know why I do this or when it started, but it works for me ConfusedGrin

Please make me feel normal and tell me your secret weird behaviour

I also research tv shows / films madly. I look at the plot, filming locations etc, then the cast - their backgrounds and their other programmes / films. Often end up doing the same on the things they've been in previously.

Hadenoughofitall441 · 23/04/2019 22:19

I have to have do everything in order. I think lot of people will show thier ocd tendencies. Like if I miss a couple of days of tv, I will always start from the bottom of the sky planner at work up. I only take the next tshirt in line. I start with the biggest thing on my plate. All my DVDs at alphabetised...

Hadenoughofitall441 · 23/04/2019 22:21

I always go above and beyond when watch tv or movies, looking at actors, filming locations, il strat with zac efron and then end up with like George Clooney by just being generally intrigued and pressing loads of differnent buttons.

LifeofClimb · 23/04/2019 22:21

Read mumsnet and watch youtube Blush

Sorry to say, you are all my dirty secret!

polkadotpixie · 23/04/2019 22:21

@GuineaPiglet345 I do the same! I absolutely HAVE to read the plot of every film and tv show on Wikipedia first. My husband hates it 😂

LettuceLeave · 23/04/2019 22:21

@JacktomyDaniel I have the same thing! Need my body to feel equal.

I don't like to step on the lines between paving stones, and if I do I have to make sure the other foot does it too. Or sometimes if the paving flags are different colours, like old and new, I have to try and walk so that each feet step on the same amount of old and new or I feel all weird inside.

Can't bare uneven numbers so the volume has to always be an even number.

I also like to look at words or signs with multiple words and try to find the centre so that I could fold them in half perfectly.

My daughters first, middle and surname are 4,6,8 letters long. I wanted to add a second middle name but once I realised the 4,6,8 sequence I couldn't do it. My name is 5,6,5 letters long and my middle name is Hannah so I can fold my name in half perfectly Grin

Lol, when I first started reading this thread I didn't think of anything I would have to add, until I saw the uneven body comment and it all came flooding out 😂

pinkginplease · 23/04/2019 22:22

I have a comfort thing where I put my thumb in my belly button an ex pointed this out to me (I found out after that he sucked his thumb and had to hold a scrunched hankie to get to sleep so I didn't feel so bad then)

Meandwinealone · 23/04/2019 22:23

OMG
maladaptive daydreaming. I do that. I just thought I was a bit of a dreamer. And I struggle to listen to music otherwise I end up deep in a daydream and I can’t think about anything else.
Is this why I struggle with actual RL situations, because they never end up like my daydream.

Also this worried me:

Maladaptive daydreaming is often diagnosed as schizophrenia, which is a type of psychosis. This is because people with schizophrenia cannot differentiate reality from fantasy.

Shock
Shinyletsbebadguys · 23/04/2019 22:25

I used to narrate my life in my head as though I was in a book ...oddly don't seem to do that as much anymore...ive become annoyingly normal as I've aged (I'm genuinely not happy about this)

ShadowHuntress · 23/04/2019 22:26

I also used to maladaptive daydream when I was younger. I had a ‘in my head’ world where I was a famous singer with a famous boyfriend and would spend hours if not days living in my head world.

Also have to do everything in odd numbers and right to left. Doesn’t make sense, but I have to start on my right foot and finish on my left. Put my right shoe on first. Right glove etc. Weird

furrybadger · 23/04/2019 22:26

I also suck my thumb, it’s like a comfort blanket I do it every night when I’m tired or relaxing 🤦🏽‍♀️

SachaStark · 23/04/2019 22:27

Sometimes I imagine what it would be like if MY family were the royal family. Like, who would be the monarch, my granny or my grandad? Which of my aunties or cousins would be causing scandals in the papers? What charity causes would we support?

We’d be a great royal family, I reckon!

BluebellCockleshell123 · 23/04/2019 22:28

If I'm walking somewhere dodgy on my own I scare myself silly by narrating an imaginary Crimewatch video.

"Bluebell was last seen walking down this street and wearing blue jeans, pink trainers and a yellow trenchcoat"

PinkGlitter123 · 23/04/2019 22:28

Sandra, you have really made me laugh!

AhhhHereItGoes · 23/04/2019 22:28

Like @EjectorCrab I get obsessive about topics, tv shows or characters. I'll constantly watch, read, daydream or research about it so I'm nearly an expert. Then it's something else

When in a car I'll set a music or song in my head to the speed/movement of the car.

Yes also maladaptive daydreaming.

I also think I have aerophagia. Envy

You guys are amazing. The quirkiness is beautiful. Who needs 'normal'.

mollpop · 23/04/2019 22:29

I eat a packet of crisps in order of the size of the individual crisps. Smallest first. I also sniff the fabric conditioner in supermarkets

Bigsighall · 23/04/2019 22:30

Yy to the rubbing of feet together thing. Also need to eat each bit of my dinner separately. Easy with most meals, harder with something like a lasagne (eat meat first then pasta then the cheese / cheese sauce.. takes a while!)

ScrewyMcScrewup · 23/04/2019 22:30

When I'm lying down I occasionally have to stick my left arm straight up in the air and hold it there for a minute or so. It's surprisingly comfortable.

I talk to food as I'm cooking. "How are you doing, Mr Curry? Simmering nicely?"

I have to take off my right sock the moment I get into bed. The left has to come off before I can sleep.

I really enjoy wiping my cat's eye boogers.

Pinkarsedfly · 23/04/2019 22:31

I always say ‘pardon me’ if I fart; even if I’m on my own I have to whisper it under my breath.

I can’t walk into a public toilet cubicle without imaging there’ll be a dead body hanging in it...this started when I was a small child.

If someone annoys me I’ll spend ages having an imaginary argument with them, which I always win.

I plan my Desert Island Discs interview. (When I say ‘plan’ I really mean ‘rehearse.’)

LettuceLeave · 23/04/2019 22:32

@Puffkin

I also do the racing thing! One time I was having what I thought was a one sided race with this stranger guy and got ahead of him and picked my next target to overtake, but then the first guy overtook me! So I of course sped up and ran to catch up and get ahead again, but he then did the same. Turns out we were in an actual race! 😂 It got to a point where he was in the lead once we had reached the city centre (it had gone on for over a mile) and I saw him across the street. So once I got over the massive junction of traffic lights I bolted to take the lead and brushed past him with my arm, turned around for our first moment of eye contact and gave to him a look to say "HAHAAA SUCKER, I WIN!!!"

MissClareRemembers · 23/04/2019 22:34

I’ve been presenting a TV programme about Henry VIII and his 6 wives for several years now. I do it whilst sat on the toilet. I’m an extremely well known expert!

If I find a crease or wrinkle in fabric, I HAVE to put it between my fingers. It’s difficult to explain but it feels amazing.

startalovetrain · 23/04/2019 22:40

Whenever I use the loo I always lift my top up exposing my stomach. No reason and I have no idea why I do it, but I do!! Even if I'm wearing a skirt that can just be lifted!!

PinotAndPlaydough · 23/04/2019 22:41

I also do the day dreaming thing, had no idea it had a name, I do it more when stressed, sometimes I almost get lost in my day dreams and it’s hard to pull myself back to real life.

I suck my thumb and have a comfort blanket and a special pillow.

I like to pretend I’m a police officer following a suspect, once the person goes a different way to me I just choose someone new (I don’t actually follow people!). In my head I’ll be describing them and saying what direction they are heading etc.

When I’m nervous or anxious I do this thing where I tap each fingertip against my thumb.

Stygimoloch · 23/04/2019 22:41

I’ve been married to Leo DiCaprio since I was a student 15 years ago. We’ve got two kids and the whole of Hollywood wonder what our secret is. I add to this at least once a day.

If I can’t sleep at night, I lie really still and pretend I’m in hospital after a car accident or something and my family are all gathered around me. I usually get to sleep pretty quickly this way, but if not, I’ll carry on and wake up from my coma to the delight of those around me.

TheSilveryPussycat · 23/04/2019 22:47

You know those almost path type things in the pavement where cables or gas etc have been laid? I walk along them if l possibly can. This began way back when I was 10. I call them Poison Paths, and imagine they have precipices each side with lava in the bottom, so that if l didnt keep to the Poison Path I would fall to my death Confused
