This is a beautiful thread. The best. All these threads are the best. And, by the way, anyone who says differently will be denied entry and will have their posting privileges suspended

BTW, very interesting analysis of the position of the Mexican President in the NYT.

Unpopular in Mexico and fighting Trump. Standing up to Trump could mean political survival in Mexico, but losing a trade war with their main market would be fatal.

"“These are ugly times, and things will get uglier. I don’t really see a way out it, but in this context, our great advantage will be that Mexicans are united,” Javier Solórzano, a prominent journalist, said in a video posted online. The country, he added, “is now united around the president.”"

His sense of superiority came over quite strongly in the trump tapes

Roussette · 28/01/2017 12:27

Respect to Mexican President! Two can play at being clever. www.newyorker.com/humor/borowitz-report/trump-enraged-as-mexican-president-meets-with-meryl-streep-instead

BigBadgers · 28/01/2017 12:30

I saw that lweji. It seems like the Mexican pres is stuck between a bit of a rock and a hard place . Can't be seen to be weak and roll over to trump's crazyness, yet USA can really hit Mexico hard. Still, I can't help but feel that at least the mixican president is somewhat more enjoyable to look at than Mr Trumpy. Grin

Did he meet Streep? It sounds perfect - but did it happen?

He's utterly terrifying isnt he?

Being an optimist though I'm trying to see that one good thing is that (unlike Obama and Clinton) he will put us at the front of the queue when it comes to post Brexit trade deals.

Still feels like 'supping with the devil'!

BigBadgers · 28/01/2017 12:40

Well the person who wrote the article is a comedian and his column is subtitled 'Not the news' so I am guessing not. It's a nice thought though Grin

He is quite pleasant, yes. Maybe campaign to have him more in the news?

GingerIvy · 28/01/2017 12:54

Is there a link to the trump tapes that is not behind a paywall please?

In this situation, especially the comments to May during the press conference, all I keep thinking is "When someone tells you who they are... listen." MN advice wins out here too.

GingerIvy · 28/01/2017 12:59

Wow. Even green card holders that are returning to the country are being denied entry. These are people that LIVE in the states, work, have families.....

GingerIvy · 28/01/2017 13:06

This from an article. I know - sorry - but I'm shocked!! Green card holders have been granted permanent residency in the US!!! So their family, home, job, all of it, is in the US. They may have gone back home briefly for a family visit, or to attend a family member's funeral, and now may not get back into the country. This means many will not be able to leave the country to do that kind of thing. So wrong.

...........

Dr Trita Parsi, president of NIAC, tweeted: “Confirmed: Iran’s Asghar Farhadi won’t be let into the US to attend Oscars.”

NIAC said it had learned that a daughter of a greencard-holding Iranian family living in the US had been removed from her plane bound for the US from Dubai. After five hours of questioning she was allowed by Dubai officials to board another flight to the US.

Later, Parsi said on Twitter that he had learned of “another Iranian student with a multiple entry visa who was denied entry as she returned to the US from Europe”.

Parsi said it appeared that US border officials were deciding on whether green card holders could re-enter the US on a “case by case” basis which involved asking individuals about their political views. There were reports that some border officials were confused about their new instructions and unhappy about what was being asked of them.

GingerIvy · 28/01/2017 13:08

They're putting out advice that anyone with a green card from those countries do NOT leave the US as you may not be able to re-enter. And not to identify yourself in any way on social media if you are undocumented.

Scary times.

Oh, and a huge movement is growing in California to secede from the US.

Imagine. DC may be responsible for busting up the EU. And Trump may be responsible for busting up the US. Maybe they can celebrate over a round of golf or something. Hmm But Trump will win at golf, because he's the bestest golfer ever. Just ask him. He'll tell you. Grin

I wonder if that might affect internet search results and Facebook feeds?
