I wonder what the low point will be? I have a horrible feeling he still has a lot further to sink.
The Visa thing is so barbaric - imagine being trapped outside the country you live and work in, or trapped inside unable to leave for fear of the door being shut behind you. There must be a lot of families separated as a result, and a lot of businesses with employees unable to return from holidays.
Just heard this on the news as well:
www.theguardian.com/politics/2017/jan/28/theresa-may-signs-100m-fighter-jet-deal-with-turkeys-erdogan
May's had quite a week, hasn't she? I suppose beggars can't be choosers, post Brexit.

BigBadgers · 28/01/2017 17:07

I just can't get over the fact that people with green cards are not being allowed to re-enter the USA. That families are being split up be because a father went to visit his relatives. I am genuinely almost in tears. How can this happen? How can anyone think this is OK?

And netanyahu can fuck the fuck off. He has created a giant concentration camp, restricted vital supplies and persecuted a group of people, while continuing to build illegally on Palestinian land. I'm not surprised he things trump is awesome.

Lweji · 28/01/2017 17:13

Great Tweet from Ben.

Yes, Israel's shinny example.

originalmavis · 28/01/2017 17:22

I have family who, if they go back to the country they were born in, will get turned back if they try to fly to the states. Most are surgeons and doctors, married to passport carrying US citizens so exactly the people you don't want, eg?

So if they go abroad to carry out surgery (as they have done) they won't know if they can get back into the US?

Holy fuck.

amispartacus · 28/01/2017 17:24

I want to hear Theresa May condemn Trump's plans.

Actually, I want to hear leaders of the EU condemn them. The Pope has.

I thought Theresa May was a Christian

I cannot believe the last week. It's been 7 days. He did NOT win the popular vote and look at what's happened.

I think the UK should be offering expedited visas to all these Google, Facebook and other highly qualified people who face being refused re-entry to the US. They could transfer to the UK office of these tech giants and bring their families with them. Think of the money and prestige we would gain by expanding these companies and increasing our tech centre. America is going to suffer an aweful brain drain if it carries on. These large companies will just move their people out.

M0stlyHet · 28/01/2017 17:29

I think I agree with whoever it was said on the last thread that in an odd sort of way it's good it's going to hell in a handcart this fast. Pence would have done the same things, but slower, so there was the "boiled frog effect" of the small increments not being noticed. Trump's doing it all in one go so it's really obvious just how tyrannical he's being.

SalemsCat · 28/01/2017 17:30

I think TMs christian values have been discarded, like an old coat.

BigBadgers · 28/01/2017 17:32

Once you start holding people at airports and refusing them entry to their own homes based on religion and race the next stage is rounding people up who are already in the country. He is already talking about get out immigrants who have committed crimes, everyone can be guilty of something if you look hard enough. And of course what will you do with these people once you have rounded them up....Oh yes, he has also talked about reopening prison camps on and off American soil.

Is this all looking familiar yet...

originalmavis · 28/01/2017 17:34

I look forward to hearing the thoughts from my 70+ auntie as to why she can't visit her entire family in the US because despite her husband and kids being born there, she just has a green card.

Not sure if she is over there at the moment as she zips back and forth but God help the orange one if she is there now. My money is on her in a street fight (he is a rich boy wuss).

BigBadgers · 28/01/2017 17:35

I think it is people with so called 'christian values' who are doing these things. Trump, Pence, they both boast about their godliness. There are good and bad people who claim to be part of all religions and those who claim none. Religious values makes you no more likely to not be a bastard in my experience. It can give you an excuse and a cover though.

Lweji · 28/01/2017 17:40

Christian values that are limited to being against abortion and in favour of dominance of Christianity.
Nothing on being pro-life (against state sanctioned murder, aka, death penalty; or against owning guns), respecting other religions and beliefs, welcoming those in need (Samaritan's parable) or generosity (easier for a camel to go through a needle's hole than a rich man...).

GingerIvy · 28/01/2017 17:41

Darweesh has been released from detention. One down, how many more?

Mooey89 · 28/01/2017 17:42

Following this thread in horror.

GingerIvy · 28/01/2017 17:43

It took 2 members of Congress and solicitors to do it, but he's been released.

BigBadgers · 28/01/2017 17:46

It is a crazy world when the president of turkey who is practically a dictator and implicated in tons of human rights abuses comes across as caring and reasonable when talking about the president of the USA. Oh and Theresa is officially a slimeball for her 'the united states is responsible for the united states policy on refugees' answer. I think and hope history will judge her harshly for these words.

Iran has just announced it will ban all US citizens from going there

Barack Obama seems to have been very quiet. Are there any respected American leaders speaking up at the moment?

I have to admit that I've been avoiding news broadcasts the last 24-ish hours because I had gotten to the point where it was making me physically ill. But what the WHAT?? Green-card holders will be denied re-entry? So, does this mean that if a Canadian citizen green-card holder flew to Yemen on a humanitarian mission that Canadian green-card holder would be denied re-entry? Or is it based on the actual citizenship of the card holder? IE, Canadian, come back in ! Yemeni, no way! ?

One of the things that is really getting to me is this undeniable proof that our pride in our Constitution's provisions for 'balance of power' gave us a false sense of security. That the balance of power is based on personal honour and the belief in what our Constitution is meant to do by the people in power. And those people have neither honour nor belief in the principle upon which this country was founded and which was so prevalent in our founding fathers.

It just makes me sick.

very true, and whilst some will be horrified I feel that there are many who will support him, after all populism is, well ...popular
and thats how he got in, by appealing to nationalism, xenophobia and the knee jerk un-examined response of the stressed and pissed off

FantasticButtocks · 28/01/2017 17:52

Goodness, another thread already, hard to keep up, need to be here though am only on page one

merrymouse · 28/01/2017 17:54

I suspect Obama feels that intervention by him would be a sign that things had really fallen apart and could lead to extreme civil unrest.

He is probably hoping that events will make it clear that Trump's policies are unworkable. However, he has said that he will step in if freedom of the press is curtailed or if Trump tries to deport children who have been educated in the US.

Peregrina · 28/01/2017 17:57

Not all Christians are hypocrites. Some of us do try to live by the teachings set out in the Gospels. But remember, it is costly - Jesus was crucified.
