To wonder what idiot invented scented sanitary pads and tampons?

Because it seems to be getting harder to buy the non-scented kind these days! But honestly, who thought it was a good idea to put something heavily perfumed so fanjo-adjacent? AIBU to think it was probably a man?

And yes, I know I should probably use a mooncup and reusable pads but I'm not quite there yet!

TooOldForGlitter Mon 15-Feb-16 15:01:07

Somebody with fanny fear who saw an opportunity to convince women that they now need perfumed periods.

RudeElf Mon 15-Feb-16 15:01:23

Probably a man

misskatamari Mon 15-Feb-16 15:01:28

Yanbu! I was so shocked when my periods returned after having dd that my usual pads are scented. They're horrid and I hate using them.

RoseDog Mon 15-Feb-16 15:02:31

My money is on the makers of canasten...

OhShutUpThomas Mon 15-Feb-16 15:03:24

Yep, a man or the makers of canesten.

Or both.

originalusernamefail Mon 15-Feb-16 15:04:29

I don't know but there's a special level of hell for them angry

Clare1971 Mon 15-Feb-16 15:04:38

Yes - imagine conversation 'ooh, you smell nice, what is it?', 'thanks, it's my fannypad and it makes my fanny itch like mad'. Who the fuck is buying these?

cosmicglittergirl Mon 15-Feb-16 15:05:13

Oh god I hate them. So disgusting. Who wants a air freshener scented fanny?!

hiddenhome2 Mon 15-Feb-16 15:05:45

I open the packets in the supermarket in order to sniff them before buying. I can't tolerate artificial smells either. They make me feel sick.

Have a search online to see if there are any other products out there.

Sighing Mon 15-Feb-16 15:06:06

It's awful. Also - why would anyone buy them as the scent screams "hello I am wearing some form of sanpro". Maybe that's it. It's a period-pride thing?

whatevva Mon 15-Feb-16 15:06:06

Who the fuck is buying these

The poor buggers who picked them up by accident sad

BettyBooboid Mon 15-Feb-16 15:06:07

Totally agree.

I dont want fragranced sanitary protection, not to mention the fact that the fragrances they use are fecking vile >Mmmm, aroma of old lady soap and cheap glad I can't smell my natural self, thank you sanitary towel making people men hmm>

moptopp Mon 15-Feb-16 15:08:37

Yes, it was a man.

When I was at university I was once too embarrassed to go and buy some tampons from the corner shop over the road (I had issues, I know) and my boyfriend decided he was going to start a tampon delivery service for women too embarrassed to go to corner shops (a bit niche...) and also thought it would be a great idea to make them all different colours and patterns. I couldn't even begin to find the words to explain to him why it was such a ridiculous idea (see issues, above)

(I don't have issues any more, in fact I am an evangelical mooncup user - you should definitely get one grin)

I had this convo with DD1 last night. She gets really bad wind whilst on her period. Added to wearing scented knicker liners the result is literally a perfumed fart. Not good. Thankfully I have a cold and my sense of smell is impaired at the moment.

Tanith Mon 15-Feb-16 15:14:25

I actually went to the doctor. I smelled so awful during my period, I was sure I had an infection.

The doctor explained it was the scented towels... blush

hiddenhome2 Mon 15-Feb-16 15:17:39

The menstruals will mix with the chemicals and create a stink. Menstruals on its own doesn't smell if you change the pad regularly.

BettyBi0 Mon 15-Feb-16 15:20:58

Ugh they all smell horrendous. Who the f*ck is buying them?

It drives me nuts when I can't find un scented and I instantly get thrushy after using the smelly ones

MetalMidget Mon 15-Feb-16 15:21:46

"Oh god I hate them. So disgusting. Who wants a air freshener scented fanny?!"

Well, that depends - do they do them in 'new car smell'?

Lweji Mon 15-Feb-16 15:21:50

I haven't seen any. Maybe they haven't reached the outskirts of Europe yet.

Lottie2611 Mon 15-Feb-16 15:23:30

I'm probably being really daft here- what's wrong with scented. I choose them over normal ...

TitClash Mon 15-Feb-16 15:24:03

I bought Always last week, used two and threw the rest of the packet away. I'll never buy them again.
I've been using own brand for a few years. I couldnt believe how obnoxious the scented ones were, I could smell them outside my jeans.

Yseulte Mon 15-Feb-16 15:24:09

I think we're going to have to start a campaign because it's becoming harder and harder do find non-scented ones.

Who doesn't know that scent can cause thrush.

BettyBooboid Mon 15-Feb-16 15:25:03

I suppose its that they are the equivalent of spraying some really nasty air freshener in your fanjo region?

LogicalThinking Mon 15-Feb-16 15:27:30

I was horrified when I heard about this. Who the hell thought this was a good idea??

I'm a mooncup & washable sanpro convert so am very glad I don't have to deal with them.
