Hello everyone. This is the April thread for those of us attempting a daily Adrienne practice. All welcome. Center, Move, true, even Kassandra we love them all!

I haven’t been able to get up without first going onto my knees for years.

Buttalapasta · 15/04/2023 10:40

@ScottishBeth I can do it now. My training just consisted of forcing myself to do it more often (see previous comment) and gradually I didn't need to use my hands. I liked today's Home (15). The twists make me feel very yoga-ey. 😂

Re standing up without using your hands. I take it you are talking about from a cross legged seat and the ankles remain crossed over once you are stood up? I have always wanted to be able to do this and my son can easily.

No, I uncross my legs and push up from a squat. I can't do it with my legs crossed - not even close!!

hoochycrone · 15/04/2023 10:55

Lots of love to all those under the weather.@bestiswest and @yogachick especially 🥰

Got tired of Adriene's Home, flounced off and did Pilates each day, Lottie Murphy.

But really missed the yoga, so did a lovely Adriene Stretch today, the one by the river. It felt so good!

Yoga seems to exercise all of me, and makes me relaxed.

Don't know what to do next now, maybe try some Kassandra?

I think, for me, doing a little session each day works well.

Sooverthemill · 15/04/2023 15:11

I forgot to post yesterday, did day 4 of Kassandra which was fab and I kind it. Today I missed because I had a terrible night following an asthma attack ( my own unusually). Tomorrow! Getting up from floor is easy for me. That surprises me ( I just tried it 4 different ways). Maybe I’m more flexible than I think!

@ScottishBeth I've been reading a book called Built to Move by Juliet and Kelly Starrett which has some great tips on maintaining mobility - it has 10 tests, one of which is sitting on the floor and standing unassisted, and each chapter has tips for getting better. They say sit stand is a good test because it requires a lot of different things - flexibility to get your weight in the right place, strength to push yourself up and also the balance to stay upright while you do it. I can do it (with crossed legs) quite easily but some of the other tests (cactus arms in particular!) I am really struggling with. Quite interesting to have diagnostic across a range of different aspects of life and health. It's also inspired me to really radically reduce my total sitting time which is currently involving a lot of sitting on the floor.

notanicepersonapparently · 16/04/2023 07:43

I’m still slowly working my way through the OG 30days. The last two days I did Day 9 which was exhausting, a real work out, which I sadly wasn’t up to doing with any enthusiasm . Day 10 turned out to be a 10 min sun salutation. It all seems a bit random and without the steady progression of the later series. Random can be OK though I guess so I’m going to stick with it and see what other surprises there are in store.

ScottishBeth · 16/04/2023 07:58

@UnaOfStormhold that sounds really interesting - I'll look that up. I am dreadful at cactus arms! In some ways I am sure my flexibility and strength must be quite good - in addition to the yoga I do trapeze, which involves recruiting muscles in very strange ways. Though there were a couple of things I attempted yesterday which I couldn't get close to doing, so I definitely have things I could work on! About sitting - do you avoid sitting altogether or sit on the floor rather than the sofa? I did hear of someone really into yoga who doesn't have any chairs in his house!

I forgot about yoga yesterday until bedtime, when I'd had half a bottle of prosecco, so I did a 6 minute bedtime yoga rather than Home day 15. I'll try to catch up over the next few days.

UnaOfStormhold · 16/04/2023 08:12

@ScottishBeth They have a very effective exercise for increasing shoulder flexibility involving using a tennis ball to release the joint - I did that and actually got the backs of my hands to the floor for the first time!

I do a lot of floor sitting - it is a lot better than sofa or chairs because you shift between various different positions. I have a standing desk but find my lower back gets quite tired after a while so I have created myself an improvised floor desk (with an unused bookshelf topper for my keyboard and my old maternity body pillow to sit on). I have tight hip flexors and my running would really benefit from loosening them up so I am hoping that less chair sitting will help that as well as hopefully combatting some of the downsides of being too sedentary.

Sooverthemill · 16/04/2023 08:55

Day 5 of Kassandra hampered slightly by small cat trying to shmoosh herself on my hands when I’m inverted triangle or indeed any pose that could be interpreted as wanting to give her love

Day 6 of Kassandra. Really feeling the benefits of a short slow daily practice

hoochycrone · 17/04/2023 08:37

Today, day 4 of Lottie Murphy pilates, arms, and day 1 of Kassandra yoga morning stretch. A nice combo for me.
Happy yogaing!

getagriplove · 17/04/2023 11:45

Well I've been absent from the mat but am revved up to do a full week! Adrienne Centre Day 7 today. A dreaded flow as my brain can't seem to keep up!

Does anyone know of a veeeeerry slow flow video where I can try and get my muscles to remember the transitions with practice? I've had this problem for years with yoga.

OP posts:
Sooverthemill · 18/04/2023 08:23

Kassandra day 7 was very nice. A slow sun salutation than some pigeon. Yum

Buttalapasta · 18/04/2023 09:35

Day 18 of Home. Nice but my flow is never very flowy as I still can't bring my right leg forward to a lunge so have to stand up and place it. No idea why as it is fine on the other side.

hoochycrone · 18/04/2023 16:38

Oo I like a bit of Kassandra. She's calm and gentle which is what you need sometimes.

Yea at the moment she’s what I need. Thinking I will do this 39’days then transition to Center again

30 days obviously

OP posts:
notanicepersonapparently · 19/04/2023 20:26

I’m still working my way through the OG 30 days. Day 14 was Hatha. I feel I ought to know what that is but I don’t and Adrienne didn’t enlighten me. Some bits I’m just not bendy enough for.

Sooverthemill · 20/04/2023 08:19

Day 8 Kassandra. This was nice except a little much leaning on one shoulder ( which is injured) so I did Childs pose for that

OP posts:
Sooverthemill · 21/04/2023 10:16

So I've just done day 10 and now worried I e missed one! This series is really good for getting myself back on the mat

OP posts:
notanicepersonapparently · 21/04/2023 22:35

Day 16 of OG Adrienne. She’s a bit too perky in this early series and it makes me feel less competent (and old and tired). Todays was a short flow based one which was fine.

notanicepersonapparently · 22/04/2023 19:48

Day 17 is like an in person yoga class with a bit of everything- balances, flow, folds, twists and some press ups.

Sooverthemill · 22/04/2023 20:58

The very early Adrienne had t found her groove imo and now she has. Her classes were still good but she's more intuitive now.

havjng said that, day 11 of kassandra. Short and sweet flow
