Yay! It's day 0 and the video is up ( at 6.03 for me). Let's do this! What a lovely gentle way to start. See you all tomorrow when we actually do a little bit of yoga.

Looking forward to this. I like Adriene, she's straightforward.

I'm doing it because I want to move with ease and grace.

I am fat and massively unfit, so moving at all is a bonus!

Takeittotheboss · 01/01/2023 21:06

Hi all,
I'm here to join in. Complete beginner with Adriana but have done a few yoga classes over the years to no great ability. Loved them though, so hope these will inspire me to make it a habit.

Approaching 60 rapidly, fat and unfit. Needing to focus on my health for future me. Think that's probably my mantra...."focus for my future"

Takeittotheboss · 01/01/2023 21:07

Sorry my affirmation not mantra🙄

CeeCeeDeeBee · 01/01/2023 21:59

I commit... because I deserve it.

Can't wait to get started tomorrow, but will be evening for me as have to wait until DC in bed!

Prestissimo · 01/01/2023 22:08

I commit because I miss it. I did Move several times last year but haven't had a regular practice for a few months now and genuinely watching Adrienne today on day 0 was so lovely, familiar and reassuring. I'm really looking forward to the month now. Thanks for the thread @Sooverthemill , it really helps with my commitment.

Fandangles · 01/01/2023 22:52

Popping in to say hi and attempt to add an extra layer of accountability! Have dabbled with YWA but never seen a programme all the way through (and never done it ‘live’). Really want to prove to myself I can commit to 30 days (and remember how good it feels afterwards!)

happytobemrsg · 01/01/2023 23:53

Well my “why” isn’t as profound as some as these, it’s simply “because it’ll be good for all of me”. I think it’ll be positive for my mental health, my sleep, my anxiety, my hips (born with hip dysplasia & can go a bit funny in cold weather) & my self confidence.

happytobemrsg · 01/01/2023 23:57

Question -
I currently use a squidgy Opti yoga mat which I really like except it’s a bit narrow. Is there something I can buy which is nice and foamy but wider?

Also - should I invest in a yoga block?

Rummikub · 02/01/2023 02:32

on her day 0 video she suggests using what you have. In Move it was mainly a rolled up blanket. Think she did suggest blocks or an alternative if needed in downward dog. I’ve not bought any yet.

I bought my mat and 2 yoga blocks from Yogamatters

www.yogamatters.com/collections/yoga-mats

lots to choose from, I prefer a grippy mat to one that's too spongy but there's plenty to choose from depend on your needs

daisychain01 · 02/01/2023 07:08

I've been enjoying ready everyone's personal affirmations.

mine is "I'm enough, just as I am"

I always make 6pm my yoga time so will be joining Adrienne on the mat later on. 👍

daisychain01 · 02/01/2023 07:13

I couldn't be without my yoga blocks, @happytobemrsg I use them most sessions. My latest fave relaxation is supported fish (lying on back, one block lengthways along the spine in between shoulder blades, the other sideways supporting the head at the skull (higher up than the neck). Arms by your sides, legs either straight out or in badukhanasanna (butterfly).

Coraline353 · 02/01/2023 07:35

Day one done! Loved it today. Some really gentle opening up. Could really feel how much my body has been missing yoga the last month though. So creaky! This will be a great 30 days.

MillyMoo1113 · 02/01/2023 07:38

Joined and about to do day 1, need this to become habit and routine for me, because I deserve it!

SunUpSunDown · 02/01/2023 08:02

Day One done, and oh yes, I realised how tight some of my muscles are! It was a lovely slow practice...although I did mess up and realised I was repeating the right side, so quickly switched to my left to even it out Grin I also realised how much harder it is to do things slowly and engage everything properly.... Looking forward to Day Two now.

Ulysses · 02/01/2023 08:17

Signing in. I did these for a few years in a row then its fallen by the wayside these past two. I am so inactive and my body and mental state isn't thanking me for it.

I am so cold in the mornings though so need to psyche myself up to get on with it. Within 2 minutes I am fine though so need to remember this.

Fandangles · 02/01/2023 08:19

Just finished day 1 - LOVED the ‘circling the upper body whilst cradling your neck’ move. No idea of the technical term, obviously.

Buttalapasta · 02/01/2023 08:37

Day one done and it's back to square one for me. Unsurprisingly, if you don't do yoga for months you stiffen up again. Oh well, I look forward to progressing. Does anyone else find down dog painful (hands and shoulders)?

AceofPentacles · 02/01/2023 08:45

Completed day one (although had to break in the middle as my shopping delivery arrived!) gosh I am creaky and it was quite painful in parts. Will persist though and hope the next ones are shorter than 33 minutes...

Brontosaurus · 02/01/2023 08:50

Day one done. 13 month old DD found the whole thing hilarious and added an extra dimension of wobblyness by joining in Grin

She crawled underneath me during downward dog, pushed her head through my legs during mountain pose, and strategically placed bits of Duplo on my face at the end during the lying down bit.

It was all pretty funny, and I spent half of it laughing. Not sure if that was quite what I was aiming for when I started, but it was a sweet moment to share with her.

Buttalapasta · 02/01/2023 08:53

@Brontosaurus That sounds lovely! Mine are no longer interested, in fact they are still in bed!

EmmaStone · 02/01/2023 09:06

I'm in! Day 1 done. I'm not great at yoga in the mornings, I'm so stiff, it seems to take most of the session just to get me a bit loose ready to actually do it. Combined with a December of little exercise due to illness and busy schedule, and it made it harder than it should have been! But back on it, been doing these January sessions for years, and my affirmation from Day0 was because it makes me feel good. I'd love to get up at 6 to get it done and out of the way each day, but I'm not a morning person, so we'll see...

Sooverthemill · 02/01/2023 09:14

Day 1 done! Yay for me. I found some of it tough and some dead east. Funny that the sitting still at the start was hardest. Loved the coffee grinder move standing up. I hope everyone managed it and beginners could feel more confident. And Benji!

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 02/01/2023 09:15

Day one done. I’d done a few practices over the course of last week, so not coming to it completely cold. Still found new and different bits to stretch this morning.

Sooverthemill · 02/01/2023 09:18

@happytobemrsg you diner ‘need’ blocks. I have a set and use them occasionally but yes @daisychain01 for supported fish which is a form favourite. @happytobemrsg I have an expensive ( for me) mat that I bought myself for my 60th birthday and use it almost every day. I’m 65 this April. I think it’s worth it.
