Yay! It's day 0 and the video is up ( at 6.03 for me). Let's do this! What a lovely gentle way to start. See you all tomorrow when we actually do a little bit of yoga.

Well done @VerbenaView I’m in the can’t get my hands around club.

Just back from parkrun. Cold and wet so am going to jump on my mat for day 13.

euromum · 14/01/2023 11:48

Just done days 12 and 13 one after the other as I couldn't face "unwinding" first thing in the morning and didn't get to it later. Would have been just what I needed though and I felt the absence of yoga time all day. A reminder to stick with it!

I LOVED day 13. Not sure why - a bit different from usual maybe? And concentrating on my balance meant it flew by. It could have been twice as long as far as I'm concerned! @VerbenaView getting my palms all the way around is one of the few things I don't find difficult and it's such a good stretch. But it surprises me that I can, every time! Don't force it - you could probably injure yourself pretty easily 😊

AceofPentacles · 14/01/2023 12:08

Just did 12 and 13 together as felt under the weather yesterday. Managed to over-extend my wrists turning them around (hypermobile) so all the table pose during that session was a bit difficult.

Day 13 was enjoyable managed to not fall over in warrior 3 but not sure I had the same graceful look as Adriene while doing it!

OopNorfDahnSarf · 14/01/2023 12:14

Dreaded covid so no yoga here🙁maybe next week.

EmmaStone · 14/01/2023 12:39

Very behind, have done day 10 & 11 this morning (enjoyed, not the side plank things - hate those) live knocking at heaven's door - I don't think I've ever done it in my normal yoga class, only ever with Adriene.

Will try 12&13 tonight to get caught up. Love warrior 3 and balancing, so that sounds good to me! I can turn my palms the 'wrong' way, but there's much less movement then rocking back and forth. But I think it may be good for strengthening wrists? Which in turn is super important for ageing and falling risk (as is balance and body weight bone strengthening. Isn't yoga the best?? 😁).

parrotonmyshoulder · 14/01/2023 13:09

I didn’t fit in day 12 yesterday. Something I’ve learned about myself though (after many years of counselling) is that it’s okay! If I miss one, or repeat one, or whatever works, I can! I don’t have to give up altogether.
This sounds ridiculous but is very new to me to feel like this and I’m proud of it.

AceofPentacles · 14/01/2023 13:50

@OopNorfDahnSarf oh no feel better soon Flowers

ScottishBeth · 14/01/2023 14:11

@OopNorfDahnSarf hope you feel better soon!

@parrotonmyshoulder that's such an important lesson and so difficult for a lot of people to learn. I had a counsellor once who whenever I told her I'd decided to skip a party she was delighted, because I never enjoyed them and went because I felt I should.

Can I ask those of you who've done in person yoga classes, have they ever done the core type stuff that Adriene does? Like mountain climbers and things like that?

AlisonDonut · 14/01/2023 14:17

Day 13 done.

Yes and no to the in person class. Ours does some Sun Salutation As and then Bs as a warm up and then does a flow which constitutes various stretching poses including lots of twists and core stuff.

That’s a good way to think. Why punish yourself twice - once by feeling guilty and twice by giving up.

I did day 10 today. I’m not a fan of knocking on heavens door but decided to focus on something I want to shift in my head. And then i could go with it.

FrizzledFrazzle · 14/01/2023 16:19

Day 12 done last night. This challenge definitely feels slower paced than either last year or the year before. But I'm still feeling the effects in my back, core and posture so it's all good.

Agree with @parrotonmyshoulder that it's ok to miss a day if it happens. A yoga habit doesn't stop because you break your streak of completed practices. Consistency is about getting it done must of the time, not abandoning and feeling like a failure because you skip a day or two.

One thing I live about YWA is how she actively encourages you to alter what doesn't work for you - to "find what feels good". So if it doesn't feel good to do a particular pose because your tummy gets in the way or your joints are stiff, or because you just don't like it or feel like doing something else that day - that's fine! That's not doing it wrong or not doing it properly - it's exactly what you're supposed to do: to get to know your body well enough to know what works and what feels good for you each day.

happytobemrsg · 14/01/2023 16:31

First time I’ve had to do a practice in the middle of the day because I’m out tonight. DH & DS(6) both came in at one point. Surprisingly though, I really enjoyed today & I felt I got a lot of out it! I found if quite fun trying weird poses I’ve not done before.

I’ve been keeping a note of what I’ve thought after each practice. I’ve just been putting it on my phone but is there a nice book anyone would recommend? I don’t want to be bombarded by cliche quotes though. Would I be better off with a normal diary?

BigHeartyTruffle · 14/01/2023 16:57

Day 12 done (I’m still a day behind but quite like getting myself excited for tomorrows practice reading comments on here!). Those circle lunges were a real test of the balance but I’m sure I feel my core getting stronger.

im also feeling a years worth of tension associated with working from home leave my back and shoulders- I haven’t felt in this little pain for years.

@OopNorfDahnSarf get well soon!

BestIsWest · 14/01/2023 17:06

Day 12 - wasn’t keen - I have dodgy knees and hips that don’t bend properly so the circle lunges were terrible. Lizard is nice though and I can do the backward wrist thing easily. @OopNorfDahnSarf get well soon.

Chimna · 14/01/2023 18:02

Day 13 done. I struggled with balance today, maybe because my toddler was crawling under me 😂 I am finding that in my every day life I am starting to conciesly untense and feel so much better for it.

froginawell · 14/01/2023 18:08

Yes to the shoulder improvement @BigHeartyTruffle !

Today I could get my shoulders on the ground I'm the recline twist for the first time!

I am terribly terribly wobbly when balancing on one leg, and may even have sworn at Adrienne at one point!

I don't mean it though, the minute she stops the balances I love her again

Weepingwillows12 · 14/01/2023 18:59

Day 13 done. Was not in the mood and probably was a day when I didn't give 100% to it all but I did show up still so am fine on that. I love that feeling you get at the end of the session when she lets you just lie on the mat slightly tired just breathing. I think it's the only time my mind feels calm. Not every session but most. Really boosts me up before going back to the kids and bedtimes and the witching hour of constant bickering ( the kids not me)😂

Jumbojem · 14/01/2023 19:48

Day 13 done and enjoyed it. I am much more wobbly on my left leg than right. I saw a Michael Moseley clip which said we should all practice standing on one leg as there are so many accidental deaths following falls, esp as you age. So I see it as being potentially live saving to keep practicing balance!
I'm the email I noticed it said all the videos are 20 minutes or less to help motivate us to stay at it. Good news as I'm away for 2 days this week so will need to do the yoga in a hotel room, or ki in the gym if I'm brave enough!

CeeCeeDeeBee · 14/01/2023 20:40

I really couldn't be bothered with day 13, but I did it and I am glad! Transitioning from warrior 3 through to (I guess?) eagle variation was so hard, but I just about managed.

VerbenaView · 15/01/2023 00:28

Oops, sorry @OhOneOhTwoOhThree I misread your post
@euromum I will certainly take it easy turning palms the wrong way round, I think now I know if I start with fingers rather than palms, I could go more than 90 degrees to get a better stretch.
@EmmaStone this is exactly why I'm doing yoga, to prepare myself for getting even older.

@OopNorfDahnSarf hope you feel better soon.
Absolutely, @parrotonmyshoulder, wise words.
@Chimna I too am consciously untensing, dropping my shoulders lifting up my crown.
I feel like a stuck record, but I really enjoyed Day13, I too balance better on one side than the other and I wasn't as terrible at warrior 3 as I thought I would be.

ScottishBeth · 15/01/2023 07:41

@happytobemrsg I've just started Bullet Journalling and the notebook I have for that is beautiful. It's the Ottergami. It might be too big for your purposes though. That is a good idea though - I might do something similar. I don't know of any special yoga notebooks sadly.

daisychain01 · 15/01/2023 07:47

Did Day 13 yesterday evening and loved it, but wanted more than 21 mins, I felt I was just getting into my stride and it was finished.

i was pleased with myself on the one legged standing tadasana to Warrior 3 - The difficult bit for me was having done the upright to the forward all on one leg, it started to ache lik mad, so coming back up again to standing tadasana was very challenging. I've marked it in my yoga notebook as one to revisit as I always feel balances need to be done regularly- for me, it's all about my technique appalling that I need to work at.

ooo looks like today is Stretch, I need that.

Happy Sunday!

ScottishBeth · 15/01/2023 07:56

Ooh, I didn't post about day 13. I really enjoyed it. I like balancing practices. They feel like a fun challenge.

CeeCeeDeeBee · 15/01/2023 08:19

I'm always shocked by how much everything hurts, and how quickly, in the balancing practices! On balance (ha!) I'm quite strong (lift weights etc), but nothing tests your muscles like standing on one leg.

Buttalapasta · 15/01/2023 08:27

I didn't do yesterday's as I went to my first in person class and really loved it! Will probably do both today.
