Not much work and low pay but not much choice if you can't go out to work unfortunately.

Hi there. Just looking for a bit of advice. When paying self employment tax on earnings do you also pay NICS if you have reached pensionable age?

olddoglover · 11/12/2024 06:13

Hi @Lucylizzy123 No NIC at the moment if you have reached pension age. Hope it doesn't change!

Hi

thanks for that information

Chriscal · 30/12/2024 15:46

Hi - is this thread still current please or has there been a new one opened?

Gally123 · 30/12/2024 19:50

@Chriscal - yep, as far as I know this is still the current thread.

carosel2 · 05/01/2025 12:51

Hope we get paid tomorrow ! - no work left other than 8 tasks. Hope to god this picks up!

olddoglover · 05/01/2025 13:22

@carosel2 yes fingers crossed to getting paid tomorrow. Also hope work gets back to normal next week and we don't have the same situation as last year.

I agree about being paid tomorrow hopefully and we don’t go down the same route like the beginning of last year. It’s not the same as it was but it brings home the bacon I guess.

Gally123 · 06/01/2025 09:05

Of course, 0 tasks on offer this morning, right across the board.

Ariesgirl1961 · 17/01/2025 13:32

I stopped working for them about 6 months ago after working for them approximately 8 years and now work from home as a medical secretary on the bank with my local hospital. Not worth the hassle anymore sitting waiting for tasks to appear. I'm done with them.

Marlo52 · 17/01/2025 18:20

Are there many jobs going working from home, bank and what is the pay scale?

Ariesgirl1961 · 17/01/2025 23:21

@Marlo52 It depends if your trust employs NHS bank staff from home. The pay is in line with AfC. You would need to contact your local hospital and apply for bank jobs.

Marlo52 · 18/01/2025 11:42

@Ariesgirl1961 Thank you for your reply. I am getting enough work currently but was just interested in case things do change. I am not sure if my local hospitals let people work from home. They did have plenty of agency workers when I last worked with them.

olddoglover · 31/01/2025 14:09

How's everyone doing? Seem to have got through January with a reasonable amount of work. Monday mornings are a bit dire but apart from that seems OK and not too many instructions from TLs.

OP posts:
Gally123 · 31/01/2025 14:12

@olddoglover every morning seems a bit dire, and all day Fridays, Wednesdays are dreadful...work getting less and less and my specialties disappearing.

olddoglover · 31/01/2025 14:15

@Gally123 I have had work on Wednesdays and Fridays - if I were you I would look at doing some different specialties - none of them are that hard. I tend to leave ortho and cardiothoracic but apart from that have a go at anything.

OP posts:
Chriscal · 31/01/2025 14:16

@Gally123 I agree that Friday's are dire, the work is there but the quality of dictation is atrocious

Gally123 · 31/01/2025 19:12

@olddoglover I try all of it believe me, even orthopaedics and cardiothoracics, even eyes on occasion, but that does not explain why my preferred specialties are disappearing in favour of being bombarded with all the crp. Although, possibly that is the answer, because I do try all of it, even the crp that gets left, they try and steer me into doing the rubbish, just like DICT8, by removing my preferred options. It's not my work, as they tell me I am "excellent." Their tactics wont work as I am dropping my hours from next month. Then we'll see.

olddoglover · 31/01/2025 19:23

@Gally123 are you saying you think they remove some specialties from some people? That is just wrong they shouldn't do that. Maybe some specialties are editing in house. I get the feeling they have taken on more transcriptionists as if you look back at previous letters there are names I don't recognise. I don't think there will be work for much longer anyway. Think they will try to go totally AI with hospitals themselves editing. There was a post on Dict8 that people are getting work direct from their local hospital. I applied to my local hospital who were advertising for bank 3 med typists but when I asked if it could be remote they thought I was mad to suggest it and said no.

My new pet hate. More and more are dictating mgs instead of mg in medication lists! My Monday morning moan!

Gally123 · 03/02/2025 14:03

@juju1507 I hate when they dictate "mikes" or "megs" so I just leave a message to ask do they mean "mg" or "mcg"? It's very sloppy bad dictating and could lead to someone typing the wrong thing, and as a person whose gran was given an overdose in hospital as the medication was wrongly labelled 100mg instead of 10mg I would not want anyone else to go through the worry that our family did as to whether she would recover. At one point they thought she would not last the night. Thankfully she did but it was awful. She had hallucinations and was delirious and at first they just said the usual "oh it's an infection" until they discovered their error, then they could not grovel enough that we did not sue.

Marlo52 · 03/02/2025 14:10

Today is a bank holiday for Ireland. Not much work coming through and I suppose this week too.

juju1507 · 03/02/2025 14:11

@Gally123 that is terrible! Your poor gran. You are right it’s getting very sloppy they are more concerned about bullet points and semi colons than correct medical terminology.

I've only just realised it’s a bank holiday for them today hence only rubbish leftover dictation today that no one wants to do.

Lucylizzy123 · 05/02/2025 16:09

Did anyone get paid today?

olddoglover · 05/02/2025 19:12

Not yet...
