I've started a new thread, as the old one seemed to have ended. Apologies if I have missed anyone.

@Billybea that shows there are several transcribers working on the same specialty at the same time.

I disagree, this is immediate, then the 3 remaining stay on there, it's like Dict8 take some back to perhaps distribute elsewhere or drip feed them. This never used to happen!

Indiepops · 21/02/2025 15:16

@Billybea Lol it's always happened - I've worked for them since 2003. If they disappear and then reappear it's because someone's had a listen then decided not to type it and cancelled the task. It happens more often obviously when the dictation is bad. Since lockdown they've had more transcribers so the tasks get taken quickly which is frustrating when you get a few good ones!

It must be me then! I've been working for them since before lockdown (but hardly ever come on here) but have never noticed this before, when I say immediate I mean immediate! It's like a blip in the system!

Indiepops · 21/02/2025 15:51

@Billybea I suspect they've got so many transcribers now and thats probably why we're valued even less than we were! I only still do it due to my personal situation being a carer. I'd earn more stacking shelves at Tescos lol

Pinksvilles · 28/02/2025 12:22

This bloody company is still asking for typists ??????? where's the work ???

Agreed, it's quite upsetting actually. Having worked for them for many years now I'm really short this month on what I can usually earn. It feels like vultures swooping as soon as any work appears, such a shame the more experienced workers aren't more highly thought of.

carosel2 · 01/03/2025 23:28

@Billybea - @Pinksvilles - I agree. I think they have that much shit coming in as their main workload that they give to the more experienced transcribers who have worked with them for a while and know the layout, rules etc and they give the easier work to the newbies so all wotk is tackled as if we experienced ones got the good tasks the rest would never get done plus if newbies had the dire tasks that we tackle at a price theyd never cope. I also think the majority of good tasks dnt exist anymore as their own secretaries will type them and leave the trash. We are only getting the odd good one as they are slipping through on date order through the hospitals used and the newbies probs get them first to break them in to give them a false sense of security. These are just my thoughts by the way.

Pinksvilles · 03/03/2025 15:07

@carosel2 that was exactly what I was thinking too. Before I would have said the lists were a free for all but now I think they are being played about with. I used to type at the weekend as the work was constant for a few hours but then some of that work seemed to be held over to the next week, it's bad enough sitting waiting for work during the week so def not doing it a the weekend for a lousy return.

carosel2 · 03/03/2025 15:31

@Pinksvilles - YEP! the return I have put through this month is less than £200.. I also work for the other but try keep both going for good measure but it really isn't fruitful enough for the effort needed for such a low return but when you rely on this as your only income and cannot do anything else you just seem so vulnerable and violated because these companies know there are people like us out there that have no choice so they totally exploit us

TypoQueen1 · 05/03/2025 16:17

Has your template changed again?

I agree. Mine just dropped from 99 to 49 with one refresh - that's not 50 people all taking a task at the same time....

Workingfromhomenow · 06/03/2025 10:17

Is it my computer or has the system gone down. I can’t go into any tasks!

Workingfromhomenow · 06/03/2025 10:55

Oh, it’s OK again now.

TypoQueen1 · 06/03/2025 14:09

I don't like the latest changes, when you add a note the formatting goes haywire unless you remember to click back into the letter and when you go to check your line count the numbers seem to spin for ages.

TypoQueen1 · 06/03/2025 14:10

Also the text in front of you can't seem to keep up with the keyboard which didn't happen before.

I've noticed that too! I was thinking my keyboard was sticking!

Newinmarch22 · 06/03/2025 14:48

I hate the new changes too! Mine keeps jumping back to the beginning of the dictation in the middle of a letter which it never used to do, don't know if I'm hitting something I shouldn't be!

Pinksvilles · 06/03/2025 14:49

The template is awful: could they make things any worse for us? Agree it's not keeping up with keystrokes. Saving the task and a great big box appears and the alt n key command goes haywire for me. And what's with the line count/earnings that looks like a fruit machine reel? Only difference being I am not winning a thing here 😂

Cherryblossom114 · 07/03/2025 14:08

It would be nice for them to give us a thumbs up about the change, There was me thinking my eyes are playing tricks on me ...Again You used to be able to refresh on both sides now you cant... the draft save now comes up at the top in bold one good thing I guess dont have to strain to see it at the bottom

Cherryblossom114 · 07/03/2025 14:18

WTF...where does the cursor go when you stop to rewind you have to click back on to where you were for it to appear that didnt happen before or is my computer...cant be ask with this ... off to enjoy the could sunshine and check out the job agencies

Cherryblossom114 · 07/03/2025 14:39

Not the cursor, I meant the marker where does it go. You have to move back down to where you left off and click on again...

Cherryblossom114 · 11/03/2025 01:26

It cant keep up with the three actions stop, fwd, back, after too many goes of trying to decipher it rewinds itself back to the beginning, so ive noticed with mine and theres a waiting period before you can get going again as it jumps, up and down thereafter and ive had to shut down even and reload to make any progress

?..So theyve taken away the day and time of when the tasks are complete and leave us with today/yesterday and a fruit slot game machine style data and an american style date. Is this the work of AI date. Hope youve all got a calendar..

Gally123 · 11/03/2025 18:20

Two things-
Firstly - I wonder if DICT8 have changed the browser they use predominantly? I remember issues with Internet Explorer before we were all asked to use Chrome. Has anyone tried Edge?
Secondly - my mother died a year or so ago and my sisters and I have been busy sorting through her things, selling bits etc and last week the house was finally sold. It has been a rather stressful and emotional time (not least as the solicitor recommended to us to deal with everything made so many mistakes, not least getting the details of who had died wrong, and hanging on to the money from the house sale and not passing her share onto my sister who still lived in the house, and hence completion on the small home she was buying was delayed and she was homeless over the weekend with her possessions stacked outside the new place until the money came through and she was allowed to have the keys. And yes, she had paid extra to have the money transferred the same day. Then the bank cancelled the transaction as being possibly fraudulent...). Anyway, I now have (part) of my share from the house sale and my question is this - as I am self-employed, do I have to declare this money on my next tax form? I know we do not have to pay capitol transfer tax as the house sold for less than it was valued for probate, and we also did not have to pay death duties as everything was below the threshold. I asked at my bank but they said they could not give advice on tax forms etc. Very helpful, as always, but I wondered if anyone had similar experience and had declared inherited money or otherwise on their tax forms. Thanks.

@Gally123 - thats so sad about your poor mum and sister etc. As if losing your mum wasnt enough. My father in law died and left monies to his 4 children my husbamd being one of them. Hes self employed but im sure he didnt declare it but it was below 10k so again not sure if amount has anything to do with it but im pretty sure he didnt.
